Obama: It would be so much easier to be the president of China

The New York Times: [...]Mr. Obama has told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China. As one official put it, “No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square.”
Got some news for Obama, it would be so much easier on us too if he was the president of China!

Bill Kristol at the Weekly Standard has a great response to The Won's lament:

Mr. Obama is right.
If you’re president of China, people around the world who are fighting for freedom don’t really expect you to help. If you’re president of China, you don’t have to put up with annoying off-year congressional elections, and then negotiate your budget with a bunch of gun-and-religion-clinging congressmen and senators. If you’re president of China, you can fund your national public radio to your heart’s content. And if you’re president of China, when you host a conference on bullying in schools, people take you seriously.
Unfortunately for him and us, Barack Obama is president of the United States. That job brings with it certain special responsibilities. It’s a tough job—maybe tougher than being president of China. But Barack Obama ran for president of the United States. Maybe he should start behaving as one.
Quite frankly, Obama is not leadership material for any nation, never was and never will be. Had the media not blown sunshine up everyone's butt back in 2008 and simply reported Obama's record (or lack thereof), he would not be fantasizing about Hu Jintao's job and we would not be fantasizing about having a different president.

2012 cannot come fast enough for me.

Obama sex doll on sale in China

Anyone want to guess how quickly Chris Matthews ordered one of these?
UK Telegraph: A doll wearing a dark blue suit and red tie, and with Mr Obama's face carefully screen-printed onto its head, was exhibited at the recent 8th Sex Culture Festival in the southern city of Guangzhou.
The doll was photographed by Chinese state media nestling behind several other standard plastic female toys. [MORE]
If I had to guess, I would say the producers of this doll realized that Obama has screwed the American people, so it is only fair they get to screw him right back.

Moral Equivalence Run Amok: US apologizes to China for Arizona law

One of the left’s worst habits is moral equivalence. They take a moral issue and try to equate it to some of the worst things in the world. For example, they say Arizona's law is equal to Nazi Germany.  These over the top comparisons are bad enough when practiced by the leftwing masses at home, but when our own State Department gets into the act when dealing with China, we have hit a new low.
Powerline: This is unfreakingbelievable, even for the Obama administration:
The United States and China reported no major breakthroughs Friday after only their second round of talks about human rights since 2002.
The Obama administration wants to push Beijing to treat its citizens better, but it also needs Chinese support on Iranian and North Korean nuclear standoffs, climate change and other difficult issues. ...
[Assistant Secretary of State Michael] Posner said in addition to talks on freedom of religion and expression, labor rights and rule of law, officials also discussed Chinese complaints about problems with U.S. human rights, which have included crime, poverty, homelessness and racial discrimination.
He said U.S. officials did not whitewash the American record and in fact raised on its [sic] own a new immigration law in Arizona that requires police to ask about a person's immigration status if there is suspicion the person is in the country illegally.
What an idiot! China murdered millions of its citizens who opposed the government's Communist policies and allows most of its people little or no freedom. We, on the other hand, enforce our immigration laws. No, wait--actually we don't. That's why Arizona had to take a shot at it. Oh, by the way, Michael Posner, you clueless moron--China actually does enforce its immigration laws.
Did you notice that China did not bring up the Arizona law?  It was this asshat Michael Posner (Michele Malkin has the lowdown on this bozo) who brought it up early and often.   Posner is another idiot in this administration who did not bother to read Arizona’s 17-page law. The left hates when the right accuses them of hating America, but when you get examples like this what else is one to conclude?

China is the last place we should be apologizing to for following our own immigration laws. Check out how China treats Mexicans:
Hot Air: Update: Say, maybe the Obama administration might want to mention this as well, from almost exactly a year ago:
Following the discovery of the infected Mexican man, authorities quarantined 70 Mexicans who arrived in China over the May 1 holiday weekend, most on different flights from the infected man. They include an official at Mexico’s consulate in Guangzhou who was returning on a flight from Southeast Asia. Except for the initial case, none of the 70 has shown symptoms of the disease, says a spokesperson from the embassy. Now concerns are being raised that Mexicans are being isolated solely because of their nationality.
Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Patricia Espinosa, called the treatment of the Mexicans in China discriminatory and said some of the quarantined travelers were being held in “unacceptable conditions.” On May 3, Mexico’s ambassador to China, Jorge Guajardo, attempted to visit 10 Mexicans who are in quarantine at Guomen Hotel in suburban Beijing, but he was denied access. As of Monday morning, he still hadn’t been able to gain access to the group. Over the Mexican government’s objections, China has decided to halt all AeroMexico flights coming into China. On Monday evening, the Chinese Foreign Ministry posted a brief announcement on its website saying that China and Mexico had planned for charter flights to return stranded nationals from the two countries, but no details were provided.
On Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu denied that Mexicans were being singled out. “These measures are not aimed at Mexican citizens, and are not discriminating in nature. The issue is purely a matter of public health and quarantine inspection,” Ma said in a statement on the ministry’s website. “China understands Mexico’s concern for its citizens in China, but we hope Mexico could focus on the bigger picture of fighting against the epidemic … and deal with the issue in an objective and calm way.”
And we’re apologizing for profiling to the same country that did this?  Those travelers entered China legally.
I for one am too through with these apology tours. Yes, America has some faults, but the idea that our faults are equal to China’s human rights abuses is beyond ignorant. Why does the left refuse to weigh the good that America has brought to the world against its faults? It is almost like all the left can see are America’s faults and then magnify those faults to the level of the world’s greatest abusers. Is it that they secretly wish America was that bad so that they can paint themselves as heroes saving the world or is it what we on the right always suspected, they simply hate America?

Obama bows to Chinese President Hu Jintao at Nuclear Security Summit

Associated Press: President Barack Obama greets Chinese President Hu Jintao during the official arrivals for the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, Monday April 12, 2010.
Considering how much money we owe China, this might actually become a necessary custom for all US presidents. Sigh.

China: Harder To Buy US Treasuries

Scenario: You are an irresponsible credit card user. You are on the verge of maxing out your ninth credit card. Rather than do the responsible thing and stop charging, you instead opt to shop for credit card number 10.  A few weeks later rather than getting that shiny new card, you begin to receive a steady stream of rejection letters.

Consider the article below Washington’s first rejection letter.

IT is getting harder for governments to buy United States Treasuries because the US's shrinking current-account gap is reducing supply of dollars overseas, a Chinese central bank official said yesterday.
The comments by Zhu Min, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, referred to the overall situation globally, not specifically to China, the biggest foreign holder of US government bonds.
Chinese officials generally are very careful about commenting on the dollar and Treasuries, given that so much of its US$2.3 trillion reserves are tied to their value, and markets always watch any such comments closely for signs of any shift in how it manages its assets.
China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange reaffirmed this month that the dollar stands secure as the anchor of the currency reserves it manages, even as the country seeks to diversify its investments.
In a discussion on the global role of the dollar, Zhu told an academic audience that it was inevitable that the dollar would continue to fall in value because Washington continued to issue more Treasuries to finance its deficit spending.
He then addressed where demand for that debt would come from.
"The United States cannot force foreign governments to increase their holdings of Treasuries," Zhu said, according to an audio recording of his remarks. "Double the holdings? It is definitely impossible."
"The US current account deficit is falling as residents' savings increase, so its trade turnover is falling, which means the US is supplying fewer dollars to the rest of the world," he added. "The world does not have so much money to buy more US Treasuries."
China continues to see its foreign exchange reserves grow, albeit at a slower pace than in past years, due to a large trade surplus and inflows of foreign investment. They stood at US$2.3 trillion at the end of September.

I have zero faith that the powers that be in Washington will take heed of this warning. Even if the world was to stop buying our debt, our irresponsible leaders will simply monetize our debt by printing more money or raising taxes through the roof.

For Washington, spending has become an incurable sickness.

Obama cancels meeting with Dalai Lama

President Barack Obama has refused to meet the Dalai Lama in Washington this week in a move to curry favour with the Chinese.
The decision came after China stepped up a campaign urging nations to shun the Tibetan spiritual leader.
It means Mr Obama will become the first president not to welcome the Nobel peace prize winner to the White House since the Dalai Lama began visiting Washington in 1991.
The Buddhist monk arrived in Washington on Monday for a week of meetings with Congressional leaders, celebrity supporters and interest groups, but the president will not see him until after he has made his first visit to China next month.
Samdhong Rinpoche, the Tibetan prime minister-in-exile, has accused the United States and other Western nations of "appeasement" toward China as its economic weight grows.
"Today, economic interests are much greater than other interests," he said. MORE

Once again I am at a loss in trying to figure out Obama’s foreign policy.  Obama has no problem taking the side of unions and entering into a trade war with China over tires. He is apparently staying mum on China’s involvement to conspire with Arab states to dump the dollar on oil trades. But to do something as easy as stand with the Dalai Lama against China’s human rights abuses and Obama crumbles like a house of cards.  I just don’t get it.

This president never seems to be willing to stand up for freedom and dignity. Remember his embarrassing response to Iran’s crackdown on its own people?  How about siding with the would-be dictator Zelaya against the Honduran people? None of these things can be considered exemplary behavior for the Leader of The Free World.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe Obama isn’t punking out to China’s wishes.  Maybe the answer is something as simple as Michelle being unable to locate the proper DVD format of The Golden Child to give to the Dalai Lama as a gift.
