Nikki Haley had an affair with this guy? I’d sooner believe in Hope and Change!

Yesterday was a very busy day for me, thus the slacking on the blog. During my rushing back and forth, I did stop to check the news on my BlackBerry several times. One of the first stories I noticed was that South Carolina blogger Will Folks was "Letting The Chips Fall" and confessing to having had an affair with gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley. 

Specifically, within the last forty-eight hours several pieces of information which purportedly document a prior physical relationship between myself and Rep. Haley have begun to be leaked slowly, piece by piece, to members of the mainstream media.  I am told that at least one story based upon this information will be published this week.  Watching all of this unfold, I have become convinced that the gradual release of this information is deliberately designed to advance this story in the press while simultaneously forcing either evasive answers or denials on my part or on Nikki’s part.

I refuse to play that game. I refuse to have someone hold the political equivalent of a switch-blade in front of my face and just sit there and watch as they cut me to pieces.

The truth in this case is what it is.  Several years ago, prior to my marriage, I had an inappropriate physical relationship with Nikki.

That’s it. 

Notice he never says he had sex with Haley and he makes note that it was before his marriage, thus making her the only cheater. Nikki Haley was quick to respond: 

In a statement, Haley, 38, denied any improper relationship and called Folks’ claim a “disgraceful smear.”

“I have been 100 percent faithful to my husband throughout our 13 years of marriage,” Haley said in a statement, issued by her campaign. “This claim against me is categorically and totally false.

“It is sad, but not surprising, that this disgraceful smear has taken form less than a week removed from the release of a poll showing our campaign with a significant lead. It is quite simply South Carolina politics at its worst.”

Sarah Palin, who recently endorsed Nikki Haley, joined the fray with this Facebook note: 

When Nikki and I held her endorsement rally on the steps of the beautiful and historic South Carolina state house a few weeks ago, I warned her and her family that she would be targeted because she’s a threat to a corrupt political machine, and she would be put through some hell. That, unfortunately, is the nature of the beast in politics today – especially for conservative “underdog” candidates who surge in the polls and threaten to shake things up so government can be put back on the side of the people. 

South Carolina: don’t let some blogger make any accusation against your Nikki if the guy doesn’t even have the guts or the integrity to speak further on such a significant claim. And don’t believe anything a liberal rag claims or suggests unless the reporter involved has the integrity and the facts to report to you so you can make up your own mind. For traditional media to rely on an accusation via some blog entry is almost laughable, but I know the seriousness of it because that’s exactly what my family and colleagues have had to put up with, every single day, for the past couple of years. 

As I said to Nikki this morning, “Hang in there. I’ve been there. Any lies told about you will strengthen your resolve to clean up political and media corruption. You and your supporters will grow stronger through things like this.” 

As I read the various stories on my BlackBerry I wasn’t sure what I thought of the whole thing.  Especially with the little details like Folks formerly being employed by the Love Gov Mark Sanford,  that he was did some consulting for Haley and that he gets paid to write certain stories. It wasn’t until I was home and finally got to see pictures of Will Folk, that I realized that this whole story is BS. 

No offense to Will Folks, but anyone with two eyes can see Nikki Haley is in a whole different league. I cannot imagine a hot woman like her cheating on her husband with … well you get the picture. So count me in with Erik Erickson on this one: hot women don't have affairs with ugly poor guys! However, it is the voters of South Carolina who will have to decide if they buy this story or not. After a year with the Love Gov, this story might cause some to pause, hopefully not.

South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford files for divorce

The wife of embattled South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) announced Friday morning she is filing for divorce, saying in a statement that she decided to dissolve her 20-year marriage after "many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation."

Jenny Sanford said "the dissolution of any marriage is a sad and painful process" and added: "I know it will soon become known so I choose to release this brief notice that I am now filing for divorce. This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family."

Good for Jenny Sanford! I applaud her for first trying to do the Christian thing and forgive, but when that wasn't working she did the right thing and dumped the bum.  Mark Sanford could not have been a bigger creep to her. All that blathering on and on about the details of his affair. What purpose did that serve? 


Think about this too, Mark Sanford was a guy who the GOP leadership was touting as a 2012 candidate.  Says a lot about why we need change in the COP leadership.

Governor Sanford, time to shut up!

When infidelity happens in a marriage to people outside the pubic eye, lies and omissions of the truth can be told to spare the children the painful details of a broken marriage. These lies and omissions then become deep dark family secrets that get carried to the grave by the perpetrators, and the next generation is never the wiser.

None of this is possible when infidelity happens to a public figure. All the ugly details are recorded by the media for the entire world to see for eternity. With all this in mind, why on earth is Governor Sanford still blabbering on like a lovesick schoolboy? One day soon, his sons are going to read all about this and may very well end up hating his guts. For the sake of your sons Mark Sanford, it is time to shut the hell up!

The Sanford Affair: Another one bites the dust.

First a little house cleaning:
I am done with giving the benefit of the doubt, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, ….

Now with that out of the way, what the heck was Mark Sanford thinking? What is it about elected officials that make them think they can hide affairs while living in the public eye? Clinton, McGreevy, Sptizer, Edwards, Vitter, Ensign and so forth all live their lives publicly, their every move is accounted for, so it would seem like a certainty they will get caught.

As the details of Sanford’s actions emerge, he comes off to me as one big fat cretin! He lied all over the place, cheated on his wife, abandoned his responsibilities as governor, traveled all the way to Argentina and unforgivably ditched his sons on Fathers Day. To add insult to injury, he offered up so much detail! All of his acts scream hubris!

Kudos to Jenny Sanford for staying away from the whole media circus! For the life of me I will never understand how and why the wives stand there with their cheating spouses. It seems Mrs. Sanford is breaking this trend, she kicked her husband to the curb two weeks before the story broke. However, she does say she is committed to reconciliation. She may change her mind when all the sordid details i.e. the emails, drip out over the next week or two.

Sanford’s affair could not come at a worse time. Just as the public is starting to focus in on the disastrous policies of Obama and the Democrats, here comes this story to steal its attention away. Lord knows the press will be all to happy to provide “breaking news” of the affair to distract attention from Cap and Trade legislation coming up this Friday.

Obama and the Democrats are not the only winners in all of this. Sanford’s South Carolina Republican and Democrat foes are the big winners. On the national scene, some 2012 Republican hopefuls benefit too.

Haley Barbour gets a new platform to promote himself for 2012. Sarah Palin will get a larger share of the social conservatives and Mitt Romney benefits by having one less big name to compete with.

On the loosing side of the equation, there is the entire GOP. As Obama and the Democrats go buck wild, Republicans need to stand in stark contrast as principled and sane people. Two back-to-back affairs (Ensign and now Sanford) within the Republican Party sets up the GOP as being no better than the Democrats.

Newt Gingrich’s 2012 aspirations takes another major hit. His past affair now becomes a big issue in the minds of any GOP primary voter.

What is the silver lining in the fall out of Sanford’s affair? This story has rained all over ABC News’ Obamacare infomercial!

UPDATED: Mark Sanford's missing days, here is my guess

The story surrounding South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford continues to build steam, with a new wrinkle added today. Supposedly the SUV he took was found at an airport in Atlanta and an eyewitness says he boarded a plane (destination unknown).

From what I read from various comments about the web, it seems everyone’s first guess is that Sanford is having a secret assignation (i.e. booty call). After giving this a little thought, I say this idea does not jive.

First of all, judging from the statements of Sanford’s staff, I would say they know where he is and are covering for him. If Sanford was having an affair, telling the staff is the last thing you would want to do (loose lips sink ships). Next is Mrs. Sanford’s lack of concern. If her husband was having an affair and she knew about it, I severely doubt she would be so cool about it. Especially since his absence takes place over Father’s Day weekend.

My guess, Sanford went away to have a medical procedure, and probably a rather personal one. It would account for his being away during Father’s Day weekend. It would also account for both his wife and his staff knowing, but refusing to say. Plus a short hospital stay would account for Stanford turning off his cell phones for several days. A personal medical reason also makes sense why Sanford would have flown out of state to have it done and left his security detail behind.

If it is a medical procedure, I suspect it is non-life threatening operation, but one that is extremely personal in nature. If you were a public figure, would you want a very personal medical procedure splashed across the front pages?

Time will tell what the real reason is, but for now, I am putting my bet on Sanford going away to have a minor operation, that he would rather not have the whole world know about.

Update: Argentina???

I totally missed that one, I would have thought he had a much more responsible explanation than that. Well this story just grew legs for a few more days.

Mark Sanford: Lost and Found

Truth be told, I don’t know what to make of this story. Is this just a nothing story that got hyped by a bias media trying to make Governor Sanford look irresponsible? Or is this one of those stories you file away in the back of your head and then say “now I get it” after some scandal breaks. I honestly don’t know for sure.

I do know that whenever we hear about stories of elected officials going missing, it usually is a prelude to some bad news. However in this case, Sanford appears to have a less than friendly Lt. Governor who is looking for Sanford’s job next year and who has clashed with Sanford over the stimulus money. Then again, the whole “hiking alone” thing over Father’s Day weekend is just plain strange and Mrs. Sanford’s statement and lack of concern adds to the strangeness of it all.
