The Sanford Affair: Another one bites the dust.

First a little house cleaning:
I am done with giving the benefit of the doubt, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, ….

Now with that out of the way, what the heck was Mark Sanford thinking? What is it about elected officials that make them think they can hide affairs while living in the public eye? Clinton, McGreevy, Sptizer, Edwards, Vitter, Ensign and so forth all live their lives publicly, their every move is accounted for, so it would seem like a certainty they will get caught.

As the details of Sanford’s actions emerge, he comes off to me as one big fat cretin! He lied all over the place, cheated on his wife, abandoned his responsibilities as governor, traveled all the way to Argentina and unforgivably ditched his sons on Fathers Day. To add insult to injury, he offered up so much detail! All of his acts scream hubris!

Kudos to Jenny Sanford for staying away from the whole media circus! For the life of me I will never understand how and why the wives stand there with their cheating spouses. It seems Mrs. Sanford is breaking this trend, she kicked her husband to the curb two weeks before the story broke. However, she does say she is committed to reconciliation. She may change her mind when all the sordid details i.e. the emails, drip out over the next week or two.

Sanford’s affair could not come at a worse time. Just as the public is starting to focus in on the disastrous policies of Obama and the Democrats, here comes this story to steal its attention away. Lord knows the press will be all to happy to provide “breaking news” of the affair to distract attention from Cap and Trade legislation coming up this Friday.

Obama and the Democrats are not the only winners in all of this. Sanford’s South Carolina Republican and Democrat foes are the big winners. On the national scene, some 2012 Republican hopefuls benefit too.

Haley Barbour gets a new platform to promote himself for 2012. Sarah Palin will get a larger share of the social conservatives and Mitt Romney benefits by having one less big name to compete with.

On the loosing side of the equation, there is the entire GOP. As Obama and the Democrats go buck wild, Republicans need to stand in stark contrast as principled and sane people. Two back-to-back affairs (Ensign and now Sanford) within the Republican Party sets up the GOP as being no better than the Democrats.

Newt Gingrich’s 2012 aspirations takes another major hit. His past affair now becomes a big issue in the minds of any GOP primary voter.

What is the silver lining in the fall out of Sanford’s affair? This story has rained all over ABC News’ Obamacare infomercial!

What an idiot- the DNC has been tracking his every move since he embarassed Chairman O with his rejection of porkulus funds. And he and his wife were seperated! All he had to do is be honest about it- With this sort of judgement, I'm glad nobody will be talking about nominating him for President now.

Anybody with a dozen brain cells could tell you he would get caught. Oh well- he wasn’t going to beat Palin, Gingrich or Romney anyway.

Thanks, stoopid- and good job, I hope it was worth it… I pray for your family.

As I believe Franklyn once said that "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom."

We must hold our elected officails to that standard if we are to survive as a free county.

Sanford is done. Now let us move forward to more important matters of the country.

Dude, what the hell is wrong with these guys?

Sanford's behavior is reprehensible at best, but I remember another:

Clinton. He seemed to get away with it even though he was scrutinized in the media for a little while (as well he should have been, he was the president). But what was said of Clinton? Oh, he's just a man. We shouldn't expect him to be a superhero.

Let's see what the dems expect out of Sanford. They want Republicans held to the same standard? Well, I hate to say it, but....

Yeah the more you think about it, the more you realize what a loser Sanford is. The Fathers Day thing is what really gets me, selfish, selfish, selfish.

That is one good plus for the Republican Party. When we discover weasels, we kick them to the curb.

Just my view, but I don't think they "believe they can hide" these affairs, they figure they DON'T HAVE TO.

Most politicians Left & Right have bought heavilly into the "entitlement ethos," especially their own sense of entitlement and being "above the law".

This is why even when the most Conservtive pols get in, all too often, very little real change occurs, but when far-Leftists get in, this sense of entitlement grows.

Better tht Sanford implodes now, rather than later.

I am glad for the implosion now rather than later. I believe that many of the politians today run into trouble because they enter office with the wrong attitude. They enter thinking they are leaders and rulers, rather than servants!

It is such a waste!!! All Sanford had to do was keep his zipper shut or at least save it for his wife. I truly believe he could have been a dark horse, first tier candidate in 2012. What an absolute waste of potential.

It is a shame. it's an embarassment- what to do... Hmm. I would rashly say, resign. but affairs have been a part of American politics and life from the beginning. and he's good. really good. best governor SC has ever had. bleh. it sucks. want to kick him. but don't think a presidential nomination is out of the picture.
