Italian Prime Minster Silvio Berlusconi in bloody attack

Italian Prime Minister and international playboy Silvio Berlusconi  was hit in the face with a statue by a crazy man on the streets of Milan.

From The BBC
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy is recovering in hospital after an assault left his face covered in blood following a rally in Milan.
He suffered two broken teeth, a minor nose fracture and cuts to his lip after being struck by a man wielding a souvenir model of the city's cathedral.
Mr Berlusconi, 73, tried to assure supporters afterwards he was OK.
The alleged attacker, who has a history of mental illness, has been charged with throwing the souvenir.

Massimo Tartaglia, 42, had no previous criminal record, police were quoted as saying.
After the attack on Sunday evening the prime minister, looking dazed, was helped to his feet by aides and put in a car. He got out and tried to climb on the car to show he was all right, before being driven away.
It was a typical show of defiance by a political fighter, says the BBC's Duncan Kennedy in Rome.
Mr Berlusconi insisted he was well at the hospital. MORE
This attack reminds me to two recent attempts by the left to attack Sarah Palin. First the nut job tossing eggs in Rochester (Adrienne Ross has a first hand account) and then the whack job at the Mall of America tossing eggs.

While the left love to accuse the right of promoting violence (e.g. Bill Sparkman) but it is the left at actually carries out these physical attacks. They start off small with pies, shoes, and tomatoes, and then they escalate to actual physical violence. All the while using their favorite defense projection (blaming others for the exact things they are guilty of).

While I am no fan of Berlusconi (an arrogant elitist conservative), at 73 years old, he did not deserve this.
More at American Power.

This whole incident must have been scary for Berlusconi; at the same time, he should probably feel lucky - it could have been a lot worse

I could understand his wife wanting to hit him....
Seriously, as a leader of a country, even if he is colossal jerk, no one is supposed to hit him.
But the left are peaceful! They love everyone!
Joking aside, they are impotent cowards.

I agree he did not deserve this. I hear he has a couple of facial fractures and damage to his teeth. This is bad. :-(

This was not a 'radical leftist'/terrorist-type attack. All major news accounts claim that the attacker acted alone, had always voted for a centrist party (not Marxist/Communist), and had a history of mental illness.

Your claim : "While the left love to accuse the right of promoting violence (e.g. Bill Sparkman) but it is the left at actually carries out these physical attacks. They start off small with pies, shoes, and tomatoes, and then they escalate to actual physical violence. All the while using their favorite defense projection (blaming others for the exact things they are guilty of).

is a massive and sweeping generalization that paints all those with left politcal attitudes with the same brush which is just as steretyping and inaccurate as comments that begin with "All African-Americans are.... and all Jews are.... ". There is no basis for such a claim in reality.

The left thinkers that I admire (Walter Benjamin, Fredric Jameson etc) have claimed that any leftist violence committed in revolutionary periods is always retaliatory. This is much is true. Because what people don't understand is that conservative economic policies that are upheld by the status-quo are white collar crimes that have significant structural effects against the very poor (ie, contributes to making them poorer, never able to escape their situation).

As Bertolt Brecht wrote "what is the robbing of a bank compared to the founding of one?" THIS is what doesn't get included under the category of 'violence' yet it is, most certainly. Donald Trump's empire is a violent one.

CGB, rubbish.

Clifton wrote earlier that the culprit was a "crazy man" but did not mention political affiliation. This act was reminiscent of personal attacks one sees in America politics, done in great ferocity by the left.

To equate white collar crime with violence or to blame the violent actions of some because of it is intellectually dishonest. Leaving aside the sensational incidents of lone individuals taking out their frustrations due to down-sizing, the majority of violent crime is "blue collar". Your statement certainly doesn't leave room for personal responsibility.
