Fox News: LOS ANGELES --- A space-themed, talking Hallmark graduation card is being pulled from store shelves because of the card’s reference to a black hole.
But members of the Los Angeles NAACP say the message sounds like "black whore" in the card's audio recording. That's how they hear it, and they say it's racist,  KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported.
"That was very demeaning to African-American women when it made reference to African-American women as whores, and at the end it says 'watch your back,'" said Leon Jenkins of the Los Angeles NAACP.
The Hallmark card reads, "Hey world, we are officially putting you on notice," before playfully touting the ambitious future of the new graduate.
Characters known as "Hoops" and "Yoyo" banter on: "And you black holes, you are so ominous. Watch your back."
Hallmark calls the outrage a misunderstanding, claiming that the space theme emphasizes the power the graduate has to take over the universe, even energy-absorbing black holes.
"The intent here is to say that this graduate is not afraid of anything," explained Hallmark spokesman Steve Doyal.
Apparently, NAACP members heard something different.
Could the NAACP be any more useless to the black community? This has to be the most ignorant $%*@ I ever heard! I am truly embarrassed by these clowns. This is a classic example of how the Raaaaacism Industrial Complex makes up racism out of thin air.

LA NAACP = Epic Fail!

Conservative Black Woman and The Last Tradition both have an excellent take on this piece of manufactured racism.

Yeah, this one was the worst thing I've seen out of the NAACP in years.

Do they honestly believe that anyone is going to buy the idea that Hallmark put out a graduation card with the phrase "black whore" in it? Never mind the outer space context and all... What planet do these people live on?

And I love that "ominous" watch your back comment. Who did the LA NAACP think the word "planet" was referring to ("Hey you planets, watch your back")? Geez...

Epic fail? Epic embarassment-- if the LA NAACP had any pride or at least shame that is.

What's next, the end of White rice or White bread? I thought this was a color blind society, but the NAACP sees only the color that isn't black or finds racism everywhere. Are they getting a bit paranoid? Especially that they're outdated and useless.

There was a time in America when fools like these were laughed off the stage. But in this hyper sensitive atmosphere, idiots like those at the LA NAACP are given credence. Thus they can get away with such a foolish display without worry of totally losing credibility.

There was also a time when the NAACP did good work, but it has been decades since that has been true.

Oh lordy - are they going to go after the Goya company for naming the cans of black beans in Spanish "frijoles negroes".

So I suppose the astronomy and astrophysics community is racist for calling those energy sinks in space "black holes"? Is "red dwarf" now a racist term too?

Why is Hallmark even giving these idiots' argument credence?? Does the LA NAACP not know what a black hole is??

I feel unrepresented that Hallmark is not issuing any card with "yellow hole" audio in it, my race is not represented.

I need to sue Hallmark.

ps. maybe they need to change all the science books and call a black hole "none-illuminating matter-sucking void-of-a-space that which is not void."

Sorry man- I disagree!

This is not because of a hypersensitive atmosphere! It is an attempt to reframe the current failure of the administration as a race issue. Every time race comes up, much like an attack on Palin (I should say similarly to), it brings this back into media play and back into the subconscious of everyday Americans.

It is not because of race sensitivity because of the fact that it is a calculated move to bring about racial responses.

Personally, I don't think this kind of trash is only an example of the media and the left (maybe interchangeable) throwing crap at a wall to see what sticks in an attempt to marginalize opposition.

Desperation about becoming irrelevant does bring about really foolish behavior, but it really is good for a laugh. It certainly makes me wonder about the holes in their heads.

I'm with Fuzzy on the declining education standards being to blame here. Aren't these the same numbskulls who drummed "niggardly" out of the English language?
