What a wuss! Mitch Daniels: Indiana Republicans should drop right to work bill

National Review: Gov. Mitch Daniels signaled this afternoon that Republicans should to drop the right-to-work bill that has brought the Indiana House to a standstill for two days and imperiled other measures.
Daniels told reporters this afternoon that he expects House Democrats will return to work if the bill dies. It would be unfortunate if other bills are caught up in the turmoil, he said.
He will not send out state police to corral the Democrats, the Republican governor said. The Democrat minority has right to express its views, he added.
The governor clung to his view that this is not the year to tackle right to work.

If Mitch Daniels was seriously considering running for president next year, he can now pretty much forget about it.  Weak Republicans are so 2008.

Jeff G at Protein Wisdom states the obvious ramifications from Daniels weakness.
Protein Wisdom:  In taking this positionn, Daniels puts pressure on Gov Walker to “compromise” with public union employees in Wisconsin, and problematizes the conservative position on public sector unions and collective bargaining. He further puts pressure on any other Republican governors who may have been poised to push similar reform bills — which the vast majority of people support (and which independents and conservatives overwhelmingly support). He is the “reasonable” “conservative” foil the mainstream press, union leadership, and Obama will use to push back against the surging classical liberal momentum.
Thanks Mitch, for nothing!

Impeach the Governer. Right to work legislation has been stalled since 1970-something. Can it not be passed even though some members are not present? He is a definate neoconservative and he is not even pretending to tea party.

Lame-o. Some of these old guard Reps really believe voters vote for fun, and don't really meant it.

The landscape had changed, if you don't realize it, you will be changed.

Why the can't we find one elected Republican with the stones to take a position, stick to it, and throw just as many elbows as the Democrats?! I'm so SICK of this crap!

Up until this, I saw Daniels as legitimate presidential material. Now I just see him as the 2012 version of McCain.

I am not sure if Indiana can pass that without the Dems present (like
Wisconsin can). I don't understand Daniels' position at all. If you can pass a job creating piece of legislation then why not go for it?

I never understood what the big draw was over Daniels. I have even more reason to wonder today.

Come 2012 we are going to have to primary the heck out of some of these guys. They are like lead weights around your ankles.

Yes we need some testosterone fortified Republicans. Those girly men who run at the first sign of a fight simply will not do. On the up side, I am glad Daniels showed his colors now rather than later. One less person to think about come 2012.

yes to all in spades - but have a suspicion of some form of extortion behind the scene - the repubs dress themselves in white armor to hide their tawdry inclinations (leftists wear theirs as a badge of honor/victimhood)

in the end, future leadership aspirations of md should be toast/done.
