Just check out some of the damn foolishness on display.
Louise Slaughter: " GOP Freshmen came to kill women"
Eleanor Holmes-Norton: "Government shutdown is like bombing innocent civilians"
How can any sane individual really believe this junk?
Merriam-Websters defines demagoguery as:
1: a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power
2: a leader championing the cause of the common people in ancient timesBut in these definitions isn't there an implied sense of credibility? Without a certain amount of credibility, these attacks leave the speakers wide open to mockery. Too bad many of today's Republicans are in desperate need of Mockery for Dummies.

You are oh, so right. We need people in high office who are willing to stand up for America and do the right thing. Both parties have now become decadent.

Exactly! Which is the point - we are not dealing with sane people.
Strangely, yes, they actually do believe this stuff. At Kos and Firedoglake the progressives who comment (i.e.not the writers themselves) are convinced that this and more is true of the GOP and the TEA Party. It doesn't help that the GOP does nothing to push back on such wildly ridiculous claims and accusations. Maybe they think it's too "out there," but the more crazed and unhinged the accusations, the more "extreme" seem, to that audience anyway, the GOP. Go figure.
Eleanor Holmes Norton should know better. The bottom line is that D.C. is a federal district and not a state. Thus, Congress can take away federal abortion funds, even if the funding comes completely from the taxpayers of D.C.
The best time for getting statehood rights for D.C. citizens has passed with this administration. The best chances were during the times of filibuster proof Democratic controlled Congress.
