Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina win in California

It was a big night for the ladies in California. Moneybags Meg Whitman won the GOP nomination for Governor and Sarah Palin’s Mamma Grizzly Carly Fiorina took the GOP nomination for Senate. 

New York Times: WASHINGTON — Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman, who ascended to the top of the business world before turning to politics, prevailed in their respective battles for the G.O.P. nominations for the U.S. Senateand Governor in California, setting the stage for costly general election fights this fall.

Ms. Fiorina, a former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, beat Tom Campbell, a former congressman, and Chuck DeVore, whose candidacy has drawn the backing of many Tea Party activists. She will face the incumbent senator, Barbara Boxer, in the fall.

Ms. Whitman, the former chief executive of eBay and a billionaire, had invested a small share of her personal fortune to prevail in the governor’s race over Steve Poizner, the state insurance commissioner, who put up $24 million of his own money into his primary campaign. She will challenge Jerry Brown, the state’s attorney general, who was first elected governor of California three decades ago

Both women handily defeated their rivals. In the case of Meg Whitman crushed Steve Poizner 64-26 and Carly Fiorina dusted both Tom Campbell and Chuck Divore (Fiorina 55, Campbell 24 and DeVore 17). In Fiorina’s case, I am curious if Palin’s endorsement is what helped her break out of the pack.

So, now the battle lines are set. Moneybags Meg will take on the throw back Jerry Brown and Mama Grizzly Fiorina will square off against the elitist Barbara Boxer. I think I will have to send my good friend Left Coast Rebel a clothespin for his nose and a bottle of Grey Goose so he can bring himself to vote in November.

Palin makes the tough choice, endorses Carly Fiorina

Sarah Palin created a firestorm today on the right side of the blogosphere by endorsing RINO Carly Fiorina. 

Sarah Palin’s Facebook page: I’d like to tell you about a Commonsense Conservative running for office in California this year. She grew up in a modest home with a school teacher dad, worked her way through several colleges, and then entered an arena where few women had tread. Through a combination of hard work, perseverance, and common sense, she proved the naysayers wrong to reach the top of her field, where she led with distinction – facing hard truths, making tough decisions, and showing real leadership through a rocky transition period. Where others had failed, her company had weathered the storm and settled on a stronger new foundation.[…] 

To say this did not go over well with many conservatives is an understatement. Most conservatives and bloggers, like my buddy Left Coast Rebel, are supporting the real conservative Chuck Devore (I would too). Despite the great devotion that conservatives have for Chuck Devore, he simply does not have the numbers on his side.

Palin appears to understand this too and stated so in her Facebook endorsement. 

Please consider that Carly is the conservative who has the potential to beat California’s liberal senator, Barbara Boxer, in November. I’m a huge proponent of contested primaries, so I’m glad to see the contest in California’s GOP, but I support Carly as she fights through a tough primary against a liberal member of the GOP who seems to bear almost no difference to Boxer, one of the most leftwing members of the Senate. Carly needs our support in this crucial election year when we have a real chance of putting an end to the Pelosi/Reid “Big Government” agenda. 

Palin again reiterates this when after the initial uproar; she posted an update and again reiterated it. 

Update: I’d like to add a few things about my Carly endorsement because some reaction right out of the chute calls for more information: 

Carly has been endorsed by the National Right to Life, the California Pro-Life Council, and the Susan B. Anthony List. She is pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-military, and pro-strict border security and against amnesty. She is against Obamacare and will vote to repeal it and prevent the government takeover of private companies and industries. Carly is also a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. Like me, she is a member of the NRA, has a 100% NRA rating, and she and her husband are gun owners. She is pro-energy development and believes as I do in an all-of-the-above approach to energy independence. She is against cap and tax. And most importantly, Carly is the only conservative in the race who can beat Barbara Boxer. That’s no RINO. That’s a winner.

Here is some hard truth for my California readers. It appears there aren’t enough true conservatives on the left coast to pull Devore over the line. As such you guys face a very tough choice. Do you stand on your ideological principles and risk über RINO Tom Cambell being your nominee or do you join in with your ideologically soft brethren and nominate the lesser RINO Fiorina?  I think Palin has already made this tough choice and that is why she is endorsing Fiorina.

Mover over Demon Sheep, here comes the Boxer Blimp

Do you remember Carly Fiorina’s Demon Sheep ad?  Of course you do, you are probably still having nightmares over it.  Well, Carly’s ad man is at it again. 

From the LA Times: The ad man who brought us Demon Sheep -- along with King Rat and other strange political fauna -- is back with another outlandish production.

Call it Fred’s Zeppelin.

Actually, it’s Barbara Boxer -- blown up and distended to grotesque proportion -- floating malevolently over a travel-scape of California: vineyards, palm trees, sandy beaches, Victorian homes, the Golden Gate Bridge.

The ad for GOP Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina features plenty of creator Fred Davis’ trademark humor, from the ominous opening scene, which portrays the U.S. Capitol as something out of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” to the finale, in which a pin-pricked Boxer sinks ignominiously into the sea.

But there’s also plenty of venom packed into the seven-minute web spot. “A problem-solver…a problem-causer,” goes one compare-and-contrast between Fiorina and the Democratic incumbent. You can guess who is who, and which is which. 

In comparison to the Demon sheep ad, this one is way better, albeit a tad too long for my taste. I love how they call Boxer out as an elitist who just talks, talks, talks and has only passed 3 bills in 18 years.  Ouch!  Here is the video, tell me what you think.

Worst campaign ad ever! Carly Fiorino’s FCINO, starring Demonic Sheep

This is ad is so baaaaad I am speechless. What on earth were Fiorino and staff thinking or smoking when they thought this would be a winner?  The dude in the lamb suit crawling on the ground has got to be funkiest thing I have ever seen in politics!
