Rick Santorum makes it official- will run in 2012

ABC News: "We're ready to announce that we are going to be in this race and we're in it to win," Rick Santorum told me.
While I do believe Obama is quite beatable in 2012, I have my doubts if Rick Santorum could do it. His crushing defeat in 2006 does not bode well against the full fury of Obama and the left. Santorum also has a habit of putting social issues at the forefront. In 2012, social issues should not be place above the economy. This is because Obama will use them to defect from his poor record on the economy, jobs and the deficit.

Earlier this year, Santorum's dust up with Palin ended with Palin getting the better of him. It will be interesting to see if Palin gets into the race, will Santorum pick up the fight again.

At any rate, I am looking forward to seeing what Santorum will bring to the debates and if he will tangle with any of the other candidates.

Fox News suspends Gingrich and Santorum due to 2012 intentions

Politico: Fox News has suspended contributors Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum until they decide whether to run for president.
Anchor Bret Baier announced on air late Wednesday morning that the network “has suspended its contributor arrangements” with Gingrich and Santorum for the next 60 days.
Both, Baier said, “have signaled possible runs for the presidency” and it “is Fox policy” for them to be suspended.
With the suspensions, the network has taken its first big step to address mounting concerns that it could run afoul of campaign finance laws and journalistic ethics by continuing to keep on its payroll people who are maneuvering to run for president. But the suspensions of two contributors also leads to questions about three others on the Fox payroll — Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin and John Bolton — who are also weighing White House bids.

I always wondered how Fox was going to handle having potential GOP candidates on their payroll. Now we know. Fox's actions are sure to put a big spotlight on Palin and Huckabee. Fox will no doubt wait until the last possible moment to ditch the both of them since they are real ratings getters.

Santorum vs. Palin - Game, Match, Point - Palin

Presidential wannabe Rick Santorum tried to bag himself a Mama Grizzly today and ended up getting mauled instead.

When I first heard that Politico was making a fuss about a comment Rick Santorum made about Palin, I thought this was more manufactured Palin controversies from Politco.  Then I read and saw what Santorum said and in the words of Palin I had a WTF moment.

Politico: “I have a feeling that she has some demands on her time, and a lot of them have financial benefit attached to them,” Santorum told conservative commentator S.E. Cupp, who hosts an online radio show on Glenn Beck’s website.
Santorum added that Palin has “other business opportunities” — implying her paid speeches were the former Alaska governor’s priority.
The former Alaska governor has become a money-making machine since 2008, with her annual income estimated as high as $30 million.
Santorum — the father of seven children — also said that Palin has “other responsibilities,” such as raising her children, that he doesn’t.
“I don’t live in Alaska and I’m not the mother to all these kids and I don’t have other responsibilities that she has,” he said.

What is the point of talking about "financial benefit" unless you want to make an issue of it.  If Santorum wanted to say Palin is busy, then there is just no need to add all that stuff about "financial benefit".
Santorum's quip about Palin being busy and raising kids pretty much outs his remarks as an attack.  The man has seven kids himself so why on earth should Palin's five be an issue?
Some people are saying if you watch the video, Santorum's words are much kinder.  OK, lets watch.
Nope, those remarks are still pretty funky.  Santorum is obviously trying to elevate his chances by stepping on Sarah's toes. And you know what that is fine. Politics is a rough and tumble business.  The general election is going to be exceptionally rough and tumble.  So whomever the GOP candidate is had better have cojones of steel.
Santorum fails the cojones test, because once the mess hits the fan, Santorum back peddles on his words with this tweet.
Politico: “This article is garbage,” Santorum tweeted this morning, linking to the POLITICO story. “All I said was- she is VERY busy, PERIOD. Reporter trying to create something out of nothing.
Come on Rick, man up.  You said a whole lot more than she was "very busy".  If you want to go toe to toe with Obama in 2012, you had better be man enough to stand up to Palin. Otherwise, Palin will walk all over you like you like a bear skin rug. Tonight on Hannity, Palin did exactly that:
The Right Scoop: “I think the reports were much worse than what he really said. I think some things were really taken out of context. So I will not call him the knuckle dragging Neanderthal that perhaps others would want to call him. I’ll let his wife call him that instead.” [See video here]
Anyone want to bet that Palin doesn't tweet an apology either?
I really hope Palin runs, just so that I can watch her beat down some of  these effete Republican males.
