I said it before and I will say it again, image counts.
First of all, unemployment is over 10% (17% if you are really counting). That means that this Christmas many Americans no doubt had a severely limited or no Christmas at all. Needless to say vacationing for these unemployed Americans was strictly out of the question. So why isn’t our president at least making the attempt to appear like he shares their pain? Spending Christmas at the White House or Camp David would have at least conveyed the message that these are tough times and we are all feeling the pinch.
This is the least thing wrong with Obama’s vacation. The failed Christmas bomber is much bigger. Remember how some people raked Bush over the coals for continuing to read that book to the school kids at the onset of 9/11? Well this is looking a whole lot worse. We have what appears to be a genuine Al Qaeda attempt that failed simply by the grace of God. Homeland Security Clown Janet Napolitano is not making anyone feel safe with her bizarre world explanations that the system is working. Even CBS’s lame attempt to spin is pathetic. Fighting terror via conference calls and BlackBerry looks like a half ass attempt to everybody.
Finally, once again revolution seems to be stirring in Iran. Aside from the military option, revolution is our second best chance for foiling Iran’s nuclear ambitions. So where is our fearless leader while this second opportunity unfolds? Golfing and island hopping out in Hawaii, of course!
My advice to Obama: get your ass home and handle the people’s business!

The thought crossed my mind, too. What the heck is he doing in Hawaii on vacation while Americans are out of work and the economy is a disaster. You're right, he should have stayed closer to home. Of course, he hung around long enough to congratulate the Senate on passing their health care monstrosity, then off he went. It's all about HIM, again.
Spending 5 grand on a rented house during these times is a bit stupid. It does kind of show a lack of sympathy for the average American that is going through difficult times.
But I do disagree with the second part. The President can do whatever he needs to do from wherever he may be. I thought the agrument was not a good one with Bush during 9/11 or Katrina nor do I think it is a good one now. Being in Washington isn't going to change anything. What I am not happy about is the fact that he has not addressed people since it happened. That is what I feel is really improper. We need to feel that he is leading during a time when people are once again scared of being killed by some religous nut.
Just my humble opinion.
he makes Bush look better every day
Obama vacations and travels to hide from the fact he realizes how inefficient and clueless his administration really is. Terrorism, and unemployment are not on his radar because he knows he can't solve either problems without admitting his agenda will never work. Otherwise, he would have to admit he has been wrong. His personality will never allow humility, so he hides from himself.
With every blunder this dude makes, all I can do is shake my head. It's kind of odd to me now to hear peeps who voted for him bitch and complain about him. I always tell them, "Oh well, this is the change you guys voted for, so this is what you get".
Except for divine intervention, Comrade Zero and his czars will be the death of us.
And he gives himself a solid B+, hmm?
I love your sense of humor!
Very often, you have brightened my day with some of your very witty observations.
Red nose and floppy shoes: Not only a great visual but very accurate, as well.

That was my very first thought when I heard he was going to Hawaii. I am not saying that presidents should not have vacations, they do need them. But like it, lump it or leave it, Obama is a Recession President. As such toning it down is part of the requirement. Just like Bush had to be tough as a War President, Obama must be frugal as a Recession President. Image counts.

I agree that with modern technology, command and control need not be tied to a physical location. However, being seen having fun at a crucial time is a bad image and images count whether we like it or not.
I just looks bad for him to be frolicking when such pressing matters are in the news. It looked bad for Bush and it looks just as bad for Obama.
Griper:
Obama is actually making Bush look better all the time. There is a certain tone deafness in this administration. It is almost willful the way they ignore the feelings and wants of the people.
Jess:
My theory is that Obama is following a pre-designed plan. When things like terrorism, war, etc enter the equation he simple does whatever it takes to push it to the back burner. His only real concern is the domestic agenda.

I have stated several times on this blog that Obama has the potential to become the most despised President ever. Riding in on such big promises and not even trying to keep them is a sure fire way to earn the title. Thus far he gets an A for working towards that goal.

[Clifton B takes a bow] Thank you, I am glad I can brighten your day during these dreary times. Please come back for more!
