New York Post: The imam behind a proposed mosque near Ground Zero is a prominent member of a group that helped sponsor the pro-Palestinian activists who clashed violently with Israeli commandos at sea this week.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is a key figure in Malaysian-based Perdana Global Peace Organization, according to its Website.
Perdana is the single biggest donor ($366,000) so far to the Free Gaza Movement, a key organizer of the six-ship flotilla that tried to break Israel's blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip Monday. [MORE]
This story does not surprise me in the least. Just the fact that Rauf wants to build the mosque near Ground Zero should have been the tip off. With all the places in New York City to build a mosque, especially neighborhoods that have a large Muslim population, Rauf wants to place it near Ground Zero.
I think the reason for the location is so that the mosque can serve as a symbol of Muslim victory over the west. The very name of the mosque is a reference to battle where Islam triumphed over the west. Given NYC officials’ high susceptibly to Political Correctness, it was pretty much guaranteed that the mosque was going to be approved. Now that this little bit of information about Rauf has come to light, watch New York City officials twist themselves like pretzels to justify their decision rather than rescind the approval.
I really wish that those folks, who make themselves slaves to the concept of tolerance, would at the very least seek tolerance in return. This one-way street tolerance game is getting quite stale.

A two-way street on tolerance would be a great thing. I doubt the Progressives have ever heard of it.
I hope enough sunlight falls on this guy so that the politically correct elite of NYC have to find a way to back out of their song and dance that "they can't stop it." If ever there was a city that had enough lawyers to stop the rotation of the Earth around the sun, it would be NYC.
The depth of corruption in this administration and its followers is so great that very little surprises me anymore.
I have however, found the depth of antisemitism among these progressive radicals absolutely shocking and terrifying.
Everyone who doesn't kowtow to the Israeli lobby in Washington D.C. or 100% back all of Israel's military actions in the Middle East or around the world are not anti-Semitic.
The amount of "conservatives" starting to call people anti-Semites if they disagree with Israel is getting close to the number of liberals who call everyone who disagrees with Obama a racist.
Lets cut the shaming language out and stick to the facts or look at the actual issues people take with Israel.
David:
I don't think that Cliff called anyone anti-semitic. Political correctness and anti-semitism are two different things.
I personally agree that Israel is not right 100% of the time. Some of their actions sometimes give the appearance of being an over-reaction to some. The sad truth is that if they don't react to every threat they could end up with dead people in the streets. As Americans we don't understand that type of terrorism. We don't live in fear of our lives on a daily basis. They do.
I lived there many years ago. One of the first things that I was given when I arrived was a gas mask and was taught how to use it. A very chilling experience for a young suburban teenager who grew up in a small town that has no diversity. They live very different lives then we do. Hamas wants them dead, no other outcome is acceptable to them.
I disagree with you statement that Israel needs to over react. Their situation isn't any different than ours, the only reason a great deal of hate gets generated towards the country is that they usually do whatever they want and face no consequences for those actions because the US is always protecting them internationally or blocking any action that would be taken up against them.
As for the HAMAS wants them dead, we don't know about their life, that is garbage. Hamas doesn't make up all the Palestinians living in Israel, just like Al Queda doesn't make up all the Arabs that live in the US. Israel would probably find that they would have better success if they started to actually treat their neighboring countries with respect and stopped bulldozing the plaestinians out of their homes and treating them like they are 2nd class citizens.
Either way, we as Americans, especially the conservatives need to stop trying to constantly poke our nose in situations in other nations that do not involve us, half of the hate with get in the middle east is because we blindly follow Israel. It is time to put American interests first and sometimes condemn Israel when they do stupid actions instead of using the tired excuse that special rules apply to them because they have been through special situations and etc.
Building a mosgue near ground zero is an outrage and a slap in the face to all the families who lost loved ones there.
Political correctness is ruining this country. The entire world is bending to the will of Muslims and I'm sick of it. To me, Islam is more like a cult than a religion, and therefore deserves no tolerance whatsoever.
David:
Have you been there? I don't think so, because you wouldn't say that we understand. Do you know where your local bomb shelter is? They do. They are on constant alert to terror attacks. We have only experienced that since 9/11. There is no way that you convince me that every person in this country feels that terrorism is a real threat in this country. We have short attention spans.
You can look to Egypt and Jordan to see how the Israelis behave if they are left alone. Once those peace treaties were signed Israel has had no problems with either country. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone.
The entire Middle East treats the Palestinians like 2nd class citizens. People that have been living in Jordan for their entire lives are not citizens. The Jordanians need to step up to the plate and give these people citizenship. Instead they live in camps and taught from birth that their lot in life is the fault of the Zionists. Some of these people have never been to Palenstine and more than likely never will. Polls even show that even if the right of return was granted they still wouldn't go back. Yet, they still blame the Jews. It is a viscous cycle that will never end until the militant wing of Hamas lays down its arms and deals honestly. That day is not today, and from the way they behave it isn't coming anytime soon.
Like I said Israel is not always right, but they certainly are not always wrong either.
It is also very naive to think that if somehow the whole Palenstine/Israel issue came to an end that people like bin Laden will leave us alone. They won't. Israel is an excuse for something far more sinister. They had Afghanistan to themselves. They could live in the stone age if that is what they chose to do, and they attacked us anyway.
Every expert in the world says that the issues between Israel and Palenstine will not be accomplished without the Americans. Like it or not, we are involved. Being the sole super power has a price, this is one of them. If you don't deal with them, they will deal with us. The growing threat of homegrown terrorist shows that.
forget the anti-semitism thread - a distraction to the core notion that the nyc commissioners are political hacks and/or anti-american sympathizers: since when do you reward mass-murder/invasive-attack with a monument to the underpinning ideology (regardless of a wide following)?
did not end well for the lemmings that followed the pied piper... i am truly disheartened by our country's heading; the constant assault on the ideals of the american frabric; and our lack of focused, determined (forget fierce) opposition.
Clifton, isn't Feisal Abdul Rauf also the author of a statement denying Arab Muslim participation in 9/11? I seem to remember it being mentioned recently that he blamed 9/11 on the U.S. government, saying they had planned and carried out the attacks so they could blame radical Muslims and thus cast Islam in a bad light.
A model citizen all around.
