Andrew Stern to resign from SEIU

Ben Smith, Politico: Service Employees International Union President Andrew Stern, one of America's most prominent labor leaders, is set to resign, according to a member of the union's board and another SEIU official.

The President of an SEIU local based in Seattle, Diane Sosne, broke the news to her staffers at 11:35 this morning, local time.

"Last night I received confirmation that Andy Stern is resigning as President of SEIU. He has not yet made a public announcement; we will share the details as we become aware of them," Sosne wrote in an email obtained by POLITICO.

Sosne offered no explanation for the move, but another SEIU official speculated that Stern had finally tired of the draining job.

"Health care getting done is a good culmination," the official said. […]

Stern, even without the union presidency, would remain on, among other things, the board of President Obama's deficit commission, to which he was appointed in February.

Change to Win executive director Anna Burger is widely viewed as Stern's heir apparent, and has been groomed for the post, though other union officials, including international executive vice presidents Mary Kay Henry and Gerald Hudson, are also sometimes mentioned. 

Humm, this smells exactly like ACORN’s dissolving its national structure. Basically now that sunlight has hit these radical figures, they are all jumping from their prominent post and are looking to work behind the scenes. Don’t be fooled, Stern will still be a big influence to Obama.

Allahpundit has a sick idea that Obama might nominate Andy Stern to the SCOTUS! As radical as Obama is, he would be making Republican superstars with that maneuver. Can you just imagine Jim DeMint digging into something like that?

SEIU threatens Dems: Pass ObamaCare or we won’t be therein 2010

SEIU chief Andy Stern laid down the gauntlet to Democrats. He doesn’t want them to pass a scaled down version of ObamaCare.

“It’s gonna be incredibly difficult to stay focused on national politics if by the end of 2010 we have minimal health care and minimal changes on what’s important to our members,” he said in an interview, ridiculing the emerging Dem approach as “fear masquerading as a strategy.”

Stern unloaded on Dem leaders in resonse to reports today that they’re mulling either a scaled down bill to win GOPers or a broken up bill passed in pieces. His anger suggests Dems risk paying a big price with labor if they fail to figure out how to pass the Senate bill and fix it later, as labor wants.

Stern hinted that if House and Senate members don’t move forward with the Senate bill and some kind of fix, they could see union members spending more time on races for governor, perhaps at the expense of their reelection campaigns. “If something significant doesn’t happen in Congress, I hope the legislators appreciate that there are 37 governors races important to our members,” Stern said suggestively.

I am not too sure just how credible that threat is going to be considering there were SEIU members rallying for Scott Brown in Massachusetts.  One lesson that I think will become very apparent in 2010 and beyond is that the little guy is through being told what to do. With each passing day, Americans are waking up to the fact that WE actually run the show around here.

At any rate, in the aftermath of Scott Brown it is finally becoming clear to Democrats that ObamaCare is election poison.  No matter how many threats are made, there just aren’t enough Democrats willing to stick their necks out anymore.

How bad is Martha Coakley? SEIU Purple Shirts rally for Scott Brown

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well these pictures are worth about two thousand. If SEIU's rank and file members are supporting Scott Brown, then I don't think we should expect too much help from them on Tuesday.  


Actually this kind of reminds me of the New Jersey governor's race. Corzine had all these union people who were suppose to be out there for him on election day.  They did show up, but they clearly could not match the enthusiasm of those on the right. It almost seemed like the union guys were only going through the motions rather than actually trying to get out the vote. With a bit of luck, maybe the same will happen in Massachusetts.

Amazing the things you find when you actually start looking. This video comes from The Naked Emperor News.  Clearly someone really needs to take a serious look at the whole Obama/SEIU/ACORN connections, it might help us all to better understand why he is pushing these dreadful policies.
