As some of you no doubt heard, hacker broke into the computers of the worlds foremost climate change research center [Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia in Britain] and posted some 1,000 emails and 3, 000 documents on the Internet. What was so surprising was that the stolen information reveals what many have always suspected…man caused global warming (climate change) is a big fat hoax. Worse yet the emails reveal a conceded effort to discredit and intimidate climate change skeptics. Details of the deception can be found here.
I think this is probably the best thing that could have ever happen. While I in no way support hacking, this hack may just prove to be the end to man made global warming. Poll after poll shows that many Americans have grown skeptical of global warming to begin with (and why not, the whole concept stinks of junk science), this is bound to accelerate skepticism. What is most promising is these emails and documents may make passing Cap and Trade near impossible (I won’t be the farm on that, given Washington’s new found deafness).
Already scientists at the Climatic Research Unit are trying to cover their asses.
From The Washington Post:
Michael E. Mann, who directs the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University, said in a telephone interview from Paris that skeptics are "taking these words totally out of context to make something trivial appear nefarious."
In one e-mail from 1999, the center's director, Phil Jones, alludes to one of Mann's articles in the journal Nature and writes, "I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e., from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline."
Mann said the "trick" Jones referred to was placing a chart of proxy temperature records, which ended in 1980, next to a line showing the temperature record collected by instruments from that time onward. "It's hardly anything you would call a trick," Mann said, adding that both charts were differentiated and clearly marked.
Oh there is a trick alright. The trick is that these bozos are trying to pull a fast one on the entire world and they got caught with their pants down.

I am obliged to post on this one since I've worked continuously in the meteorology field both in and out of the US Navy since 1988.
For a long time, I have disagreed with many of the theories about the causes of global warming. Is there global warming? Yes, but I'm not sure that it's caused, solely, by man's actions here on earth -- as Al Gore and his friends would like us to believe.
I'm very disappointed with the Brits. They run one of the best meteorology institutes in the world. For them to be a part of this 'conspiracy' is really disheartening. I have heard rumors of scientists being paid off and threatened for daring to say that the global warming theory is a lie and I had hoped that they were just that - rumors - but unfortunately, they were not.
You can also add the National Hurricane Center as accomplices as well. During my time with the Navy, we had daily conference calls with NHC concerning tropical development in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Routinely, to bump up their storm numbers, the NHC would make tropical storms out of systems which were not tropical. In other words, areas of severe thunderstorms and strong low pressure systems forming along frontal boundaries were labeled 'tropical' when they were not. During one session, the reasoning of one forecaster at NHC was so far out in left field that my Chief asked him, "When did they change the rules of Atmospheric Dynamics?".
The bottom line here is that the Weather Service is nothing more than a business which owes it's life's blood to government funding. What better way to keep themselves alive than to create a 'catastrophy' which alarms the public?
They say that 'the truth is out there' and I urge my fellow meteorologists to really take a hard, independent look at the causes of global warming -- has anyone looked at changes in oceanic circulation? (hint: over the past 10 or 15 years, the temperatures of the Gulf Stream have not lowered as much as they used to) How about solar activity? Are their biological influences? Decreases in the amount of kelp? Salinity of the ocean? Volcanic eruptions? What about that big hole in the ozone down in Antarctica? These are things that have yet to be explored by the scientific community.
If, indeed, "climate change" or whatever new phrase embodies the sense of putting fear into the public, is a matter of weather cycles, then why enforce policies that would bankrupt and/or cripple nations? Sounds like arm twisting to me.
