Sarah Palin accomplished two things with her interview with Oprah. First Palin provided reason to buy her book. By answering Oprah’s questions candidly, Palin has piqued curiosity as to what else is in the book.
Second, Palin humanized herself and her family. So much of the left’s character assassination on Palin and her family was design to paint the Palin’s as cartoonish. The cartoon being that they are inbred hillbillies that are too stupid to breathe and not worthy of our compassion.
The videos and photos of the Palin’s at home clearly broke that image. More than once you could hear the audience go “awww” over Sarah, Todd and the kids and their interaction as a family. Those on the left who continue to attack the Palins in a personal way will find their attacks backfiring big time.
One of the things I enjoyed was how Sarah took the high road with Levi Johnston. Palin showed forgiveness and pity for Levi. If Levi continues his smear job against Sarah (you just know he will), Levi will find himself even more ostracized than before. After all how can you continue to bad mouth someone who is willing to break bread with you over Thanksgiving dinner? Look for Levi to implode in the very near future.
Sarah clearly has no love for Katie Couric. Did you catch when Palin refered to Katie as Miss Perky? I never thought I would see open disdain on Palin’s face but there is was. Palin was clearly insulted by Couric’s condescending demeanor over the book question. I would give anything to see the full and unedited version of that interview. Something tells me that Katie Couric would come off as a real bitch.
Oprah made mention of the fact that she did not snub Palin on several occasions. Clearly that incident has hurt Oprah’s ratings. No surprise, many of Oprah’s fans are now Palin fans. However, I do believe that the biggest decline in Oprah’s ratings comes from choosing sides politically. Politically speaking we live in a bitterly divided nation. By choosing sides, Oprah lost a valuable commodity, neutrality. Many of the women who once enjoyed Oprah are now Tea Party Patriots and they don’t take kindly to being called Teabaggers and racists by the very man Oprah endorsed. Sorry Oprah but I doubt many of your old fans will return.
By the way, if you visit Oprah’s site, you will find some more clips that did not make the televised interview. One in particular caught my eye. It has to do with Palin telling Oprah about how she has kept a journal since she was a little girl. This segment explains why Going Rogue was written so fast, Palin has already done much of the work.
What did I just tell you that Levi would take the low road? Well here comes Mr. Deadbeat Dad 2009, from CBS News:
UPDATE: Levi right on cue
What did I just tell you that Levi would take the low road? Well here comes Mr. Deadbeat Dad 2009, from CBS News:
(CBS) Sarah Palin talked tough about the father of her grandson on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that aired Monday -- and Levi Johnston is giving it right back.
Johnston watched with cameras from "The Insider" rolling as Palin was interviewed by Winfrey and, says "The Insider" 's Chris Johnson, took exception again and again to things Palin was saying about him:
Palin: (It's) a bit heartbreaking to see the road that he is on right now.
Johnston: I think she's going out and talking and she's just digging a bigger hole for herself.
Palin: (It's) kind of this aspiring -- aspiring porn, some of the things that he's doing -- it's kind of heartbreaking.
Winfrey: The (upcoming) Playgirl centerfold (photo spread)?
Palin: Right. I call that porn. Yes.
Johnston: I just look at her in disgust. ... It's almost funny, that she's like, 46 years old, and she's battling a 19 year old, and I'm winning. And I'm telling the truth. She's lying and losing. ... If you look at her face, she's got -- she's really -- you can tell her mind's going 100 miles an hour when Oprah asked her those Levi questions. ... I've got a lot more knowledge and credibility than she gives me credit for.
Sorry Levi but your words are hollower than your head. Yeah you are showing your little dicky-do to the world and from there it is just a short hop skip and a jump to Porno Town.
The woman offers her pity and this is the reaction Levi gives. The backlash is coming for this boy, too bad he is too stupid to notice.
Oh and readers, I want to point something out. Have you noticed that CBS, home of the Perky Katie Couric, has given Levi a whole lot of face time? You think Katie might have a little hand in this now that Palin has said she pitied her?

thanks for this insight on the interview...I don't watch Orpah, nor will I....used to be a pretty faithful viewer years ago.
But she started getting "too high and mighty" in my book...even her creative marketing could not influence me to overlook her condescending nuances.
And when she started endorsing the ODDEST books and views (especially The Secret)...we had to part ways.
Her ridiculous support and backing for 'ObiWanToKissYourFeet' in 2008 was the ultimate kiss of death...I now purposely avoid anything tied with her...
Of course, this makes me a complete racist since I am half white.
I already felt that Mrs. Palin was humanised and that was her appeal.
Oprah- along with many others- would not see that Mrs. Palin was truly decent. Unless one gleams of a Hollywood shine, it's rubbish (according to some). I'd rather have a farmhand running the place than an Ivy League orator with no regard for the people he represents.
Just my thoughts.
Oprah Winfrey is a beautiful woman. She's look even better if she moved to the right.
I to used to be an Oprah fan, early on in her television career. I also found here to be a fairly accomplished actress.
I think as she became more recognized, and exceedingly wealthy, she just lost it.
At any rate thanks for the your thoughtful, and correct commentary, on the interview. As I no longer watch Oprah I missed it as well.
excellent assessment on oprah and her too sorry too late kowtow to sarah.
as for katie and cbs? pathetic. keep it moving, folks. nothing to see there.
levi? like sarah said, HE'S A TEENAGER. translation: HE'S A RETARD.
and like you said: well on his way to implosion. friggin moron. umm, yeah, well i said that.
re: perky Johnston, perky Couric update:
Let's not forget what Camille Paglia said in Salon about Couric last January:
"And let me take this opportunity to say that of all the innumerable print and broadcast journalists who have interviewed me in the U.S. and abroad since I arrived on the scene nearly 20 years ago, Katie Couric was definitively the stupidest."
And that's only the start of the paragraph.

Perfect, Namaste...... he's a teenager. Almost lost the coffee all over the keyboard laughing - all of us have lived through it and many have experienced the joys of teen children. Payback, indeed.
