Obama Makes Surprise Video Appearance At Fall of Berlin Wall Celebration

I am not sure why Obama sounds like Darth Vader in the beginning [are we looking at a video of a video?]. I cannot help but wonder if this video was made at the last minute in order to avoid criticism or was the video planned all along?

Considering the role America played in the fall of the Berlin Wall, this is a poor substitute for not actually attending.

Of course no Obama speech would be complete without him referencing himself and this one is no exception.

“Few would have seen on that day that… that their American ally would be
led by a
 man of African descent.”

Oh come off it already! Did anyone actually think that America would only elect white males until the end of time? These lefties, with their constant racial and gender bean counting, are just too much sometimes.

He might have included a reference to the US President who actually did play an important role in fall of the wall, Ronald Reagan. Is Obama that much of a petty ideologue he could not bring himself to mention the Gipper?

I think the audio is from the outdoor showing of the video.

Let's poke at the last minute thing a bit.

At least two huge video screens.

Networked video devices to show the video in perfect synch. And in perfect synch with the huge sound system.

An impressive and captivating display or a large number of powerful lights (synched with the sound system?).

A presentation that appears to be tightly staged and scripted in every detail.

Last minute? Tossed together? Ad hoc? Spur-of-the-moment? Reaction?

I do not think so.

I think that would only be true if the video system was only used for Obama's address. I don't think that was the case here.

Exactly! Why not mention President Reagan's role? I'm not a fan of Bill Clinton, but it's hard to imagine him giving a speech on this occasion without referencing President Reagan. This is yet another BO hearts BO speech. Ugh.

Have you seen or heard of any other use of it?

Suyrely somewhere there is a report of ohter uses of it.

Fuzzy Slippers:

Yes, even Clinton would have mentioned Reagan. Clinton may have been many things, but he was not a fool.

I do believe that is Russian President Medvedev on the jumbo screens. So yeah, they were not just put there for Obama.

You are right--I had not seen that.

But the lights?

And I still thionk it was long-planned.

Larry Sheldon:

The lights? Larry, come on you are grabbing at straws. At some point you have to realize that there is just no way to know if this was planned or last minute.

Given the short length of the video, I am leaning towards this being a last minute affair. If it was planned then why not have a more elaborate video with historical cut aways and a more more prodigious setting?

A video of this length and simplicity could have been banged out and sent to Berlin in just a few hours. This video is no more elaborate than Obama's regular weekly addresses on YouTube and I cannot imagine Obama spending a whole lot of time on those either.

OK, I give up.

Like so many other things, his Teleprompter operator whiped it up while thery were riding in the SUV from the 7th hole to the 8th Tee.

All the signs are clearly there.

Why didn't Obama or Hillary mention Reagan one time? This administration is disgusting! The Real Hero was Reagan!

Clifton,

As a tangential comment, I plugged your Friday night Glenn Beck appearance on my blog Войска ПВО and I got the beer on ice and will be firing up the popcorn popper!

..do us proud.

Obama has really outdone himself. He's doing everything he can to get himself defeated in 2012. Is he setting himself up to be a political martyr?

By ignoring Reagan, Obama is inadvertently bringing more attention to Reagan's legacy.

1) Thanks for doing the dirty work and actually watching the damn thing so we could be warned, Clifton.

2) Your asked: Is Obama that much of a petty ideologue he could not bring himself to mention the Gipper?

But Clifton my friend: don't you know that the world was made new again, the slate of history wiped clean, in November of 2008? Having just celebrated that most important of anniversaries, we're now only in the YEAR TWO. Reagan who? John Paul who? Thatcher who?

We need somebody one day to yell, "We get it, your black!"

Don't be silly, guys! Of course it's about Obama and not Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Lech Walesa or millions who laboured under tyranny.

Why can't Americans see they've elected the more erudite version of a rap singer- one who is so convinced of his supposed superiority that he can't see how egotistical he is.

Obama is either just full of himself or a plain fool. Either way he is what he is.

It matters little as we are stuck with him and his Czars until 2012.

Perhaps by 2010 he will have done enough damage to render himself a lame duck with no hope of reelection.

His lame attempt at an address was exactly that, a lame attempt.

I really wish he would just shut up about himself. Memo, to POTUS, we have done fairly well as a country prior to your birth.

All,
This President is reactionary. He is not decisive and not pro-active. He waits and bases all of his decisions on what he believes will put him in the most positive light. He is doing this with Afghanistan and unable to gather a public consensus is compromising the safety of American troops. In this case he felt a strong dissaproval of his not attending the Wall Anniversary and compromised again with this video. We need leadership, not the poor followership we have seen to date.
