Al and Tipper Gore call it quits

The big buzz in DC yesterday was that Al and Tipper Gore are calling it quits after 40 years of marriage.
Politico: Al and Tipper Gore, whose playful romance enlivened Washington and the campaign trail for a quarter century, have decided to separate after 40 years of marriage, the couple told friends Tuesday.
In an “Email from Al and Tipper Gore,” the couple said: “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate.
“This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”
Who knows why the pair is ending their long marriage now. According to one of the Gores’ friends, the evil George W. Bush is to blame:
Family friend Sally Quinn told CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson that Gore winning the popular vote for president but losing the electoral vote may have done the marriage irreparable harm.
“He’s obviously suffered a lot,” Quinn said. “He’ll never get over that and neither will she.”
Sorry, but I ain’t buying that one. If I had to venture a guess, I would say Tipper had enough of being married to the laughingstock of Climate Change. For Al Gore I sense midlife crisis. He already has the hot new bachelor pad, all he needs now is the hot new trophy wife.

According to my friend Nikki, she sees a hot new trophy husband! She might be on to something, have you seen Al Gore’s eyebrows lately?

Cliff, you must admit he got much more shrill after losing the election. Although, I don't know how that translates to marriage. Maybe he had been shrill all along, and I just didn't notice.

It is sad, walking away after 40 years of marriage. They did seem very happy back in the day. Too bad for them.

Family friend Sally Quinn should keep quiet. No real friend comments on anything as serious as a divorce after forty years to a reporter. Addlepated twit.

Recall that their romance was the basis of "Love Story."

I guess this is the sequel.

I'm sorry, but the election was TEN years ago. Every time the officials recounted, Gore lost by a greater margin. To say they never got over it - cop out. I'd say there's a whole lot more we don't know. Throwing in the towel after 40 years signals something more significant than just "growing apart."

I think all blogs and news medias should ban images of them kissing.

Geez, they were married for 40 years, what's the point of divorcing now.

When I heard the news I kinda shrug. But I guess it would be a big deal among the liberals?

ps. I am glad he lost.

Good grief...the stuff the Dems blame Bush for is getting pretty ridiculous. If Al and Tipper are on the rocks then they've got nobody to blame but themselves.

It's all so sad, after he invented the internet, he seemed to have such potential!

Shrill after the election? He was shrill all along. As a Senator and a VP.
Did you happen to catch the debate where he was seething on stage walking behind George Bush while he was speaking.
The man got caught cheating in the election. Plain and simple. He used the power of his office and the DNC attorneys in order to have the Military absentee vote thrown out. He denied citizens their right to have their vote counted in order to win.
He attempted to change the rules of an election after the election was over in order to win.
These two thing killed him politically. A self inflicted wound that he only has himself to blame for.
But, I digress, he was always shrill, even before he invented the internet or became the charactor that the movie 'Love Story' was based on :-)

Since Progressives rewrite to discorrect history, let us rewrite to correct it. Regards the phrase out there “Bush won the electoral vote; Gore, the popular vote” – going forward let us say “Bush won the entire electoral vote: Gore, the counted popular vote.” That leaves the correct impression that some votes (military) went uncounted. Gore is a loser, straight up.
