Herman Cain also declines to sign abortion pledge

ABC News: Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain declined to sign Susan B Anthony List’s Pro-Life Presidential Pledge, while the organization says five other GOP 2012 candidates have signed the pledge.

SBL List called on each GOP presidential candidate to agree to four specific anti-abortion pledges including only nominating pro-life judges and selecting pro-life appointees to key positions in their administrations if they were elected president.
Cain issued a statement to explain why he chose not to sign the pledge. He said he agrees with the first three parts of the pledge because he “adamantly” supports the appointing pro-life judges and selecting pro-life appointees to his Cabinet and the Executive Branch as well ending taxpayer funding for abortions, but he had a problem with the last part of the pledge.
“The fourth requirement demands that I 'advance' the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. As president, I would sign it, but Congress must advance the legislation,” he said. “I have been a consistent and unwavering champion of pro life issues. In no way does this singular instance of clarification denote an abandonment of the pro-life movement, but instead, is a testament to my respect for the balance of power and the role of the presidency.” [MORE]
As several of you pointed out in the comment section of the Romney post, Herman Cain has also declined to sign the same pledge. So what is the difference? Simple, it is a matter of trust. For Herman Cain, there isn't anything in his record to question his sincerity on the abortion issue. Not so for Mitt Romney. Everyone knows that Romney has changed positions on this issue (along with a few other issues).

Fair or unfair people will question the true motives of Romney's decision. Is his refusal exactly what he states or is Mitt reverting to his old ways. That is why for Herman Cain, refusing to sign SBA List's pledge won't effect him as much as it will Romney.

On the plus side for Romney, Cain's refusal will give Romney some much needed cover.

Strike Three! Romney won't sign abortion pledge

Politico: Five Republican presidential candidates have signed a pledge to advance the anti-abortion movement if elected to the White House, but the current front runner for the 2012 GOP nomination — Mitt Romney — isn’t one of them.
Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum each signed the pledge, sponsored by Susan B. Anthony List, vowing to nominate judges and appoint executive branch officials who are opposed to abortion. The pledge also commit signers to push legislation to end all taxpayer funding of abortion and to sign a law to “protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion.”
Mitt Romney, who’s leading in national and early state opinion polls, declined to sign.
“Governor Romney pledged in the last campaign that he would be a pro-life president and of course he pledges it today,” said spokeswoman Andrea Saul in a statement. “However, this well-intentioned effort has some potentially unforeseen consequences and he does not feel he could in good conscience sign it. Gov. Romney has been a strong supporter of the SBA List in the past and he looks forward to continue working with them to promote a culture of life.” [MORE]
First RomneyCare, then global warming and now this.  Mittens is working overtime not be a flip flopper this time around. Unfortunately, he is picking the wrong side of each issue. This tells me that Romney is confident about a few things.
  • He doesn't believe that conservatives will rally around a single candidate.
  • He believes that the right is so desperate to get Obama out of office they will turn a blind eye to everything.
I just don't understand how this guy is the front runner right now. Mitt has always been an integrity free guy. Making him our nominee because we think he can beat Obama is basically a crap shoot (I for one have little faith Romney could beat Obama when push comes to shove). If by chance he becomes president, there is really no telling where he will go. From his record, it is pretty clear that Romney will seek the path of least resistance. That my friends simply will not do in 2012.

Obama and the Dems passed nightmare legislation because they were willing to politically die for their convictions. Reversing their legislation and turning the ship of state around will require no less from the Republicans. This is why a wishy washy flip flopper like Romney might as well be another term of Obama.

Conservatives had better get their game plan together or watch everything accomplished by the TEA Party get railroaded by a weak Republican president named Romney.

Herman Cain: Planned Parenthood's mission is "planned genocide" for black babies

During a Q and A session at The Heritage Foundation, Herman Cain laid a serious smackdown on Planned Parenthood.
CNN: Speaking to reporters and bloggers at the Heritage Foundation, Cain echoed a position expressed by many other Republicans.
“I support de-funding Planned Parenthood,” Cain said. “Tactically how they [Congress] does it…I can’t tell you.”
Cain then explained the reason behind his stance.
“You probably don’t hear a lot of people talking about this,” Cain said. “When Margaret Sanger – check my history – started Planned Parenthood, the objective was to put these centers in primarily black communities so they could help kill black babies before they came into the world.”
“It's planned genocide,” Cain claimed.
“It’s carrying out its original mission,” he continued. “I’ve talked to young girls who go in there, and they [Planned Parenthood] don’t talk about how you plan parenthood. They don’t talk about adoption as an option. They don’t say, ‘Well, bring your parents in so we can sit down and talk with you, and counsel with you before you make this decision.’”
Wow, Cain is bound to stir the hornets' nest with that statement. There is nothing that drives the left insane faster than when you peel back their phony veneer of compassion and expose the evil inside. To date only Palin seems brave enough to do that (i.e. death panels and blood libel).

Of course Planned Parenthood responded immediately, but the best part is they didn't have a damn thing to say about Margaret Sanger. How could they?
“Herman Cain is clearly out of the mainstream by supporting an extreme proposal that would bar Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving federal funds for any purpose, including for preventive health care, lifesaving cancer screenings, breast exams, birth control, HIV testing and STD testing and treatment,” said Veronica Byrd, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s director of African-American Media. “The care that Planned Parenthood provides benefits all women, especially African-American women who experience higher rates of illness.”
Byrd continued: “Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses provide affordable, health care to every woman who comes through the doors of one of our 800 health centers, regardless of where she lives, her race or ethnic background, religion, sexual orientation, or income level. We are committed to providing every woman with a full range of high quality health care.”

As for the claim regarding African-American babies, Byrd cited a study that “found that fewer than one in 10 abortion clinics are located in predominantly African-American neighborhoods.”
Byrd did not respond directly to Cain’s words about its founder, Margaret Sanger.
But Planned Parenthood’s website heaps praise on her as a hero in the “fight for women’s health, rights and equality.”
I think about those sting videos and how those Planned Parenthood workers seemed like there was no barrier to great to stop them from giving abortions and I cannot imagine a situation where a young black girl would be offered any real choice to save her baby at Planned Parenthood.

An honest discussion about abortion in the black community is way over due. Unfortunately, too many times when tough issues like abortion are brought up, too many defenders of the status quo in the black community prefer to shoot the messenger rather than discuss the issue.

For current statistics on abortion in the black community see CDC's latest report and New York City's Vital Statistics Report.

Live Action's Planned Parenthood Sting - The New York City Edition

Unedited Version:

Here we go again.  Another Planned Parenthood office and another worker totally glossing over under aged sex trafficking.

After watching several of these videos, I think I understand what is afoot.  It appears that Planned Parenthood has achieved the true goal of pro-abortion advocates ... 100% unfettered abortion. Although Americans have said repeatedly they do not support abortion without limits, Planned Parenthood has achieved this anyway by skirting, twisting and even ignoring the rules.

Planned Parenthood puts themselves forward as a vital service for women and champions of women's reproductive rights.  However, due to they myopic views on abortion, they end up doing more harm than good.

Once again, I cringe at the idea of any teenage girl in trouble who goes into a Planned Parenthood office alone seeking help from an adult.

Video: Live Action's Planned Parenthood Sting - The Richmond, VA Edition

Edited:

Unedited:

This is the second video to be released by Live Action.  This time the Planned Parenthood employee isn't anywhere near as sleazy as her New Jersey counterpart, but she still completely ignores the under aged sex trade.  I think this is because Planned Parenthood has developed such a pro abortion culture that they are completely blind to reality.

Imagine if a young girl was coerced into prostitution situation and found herself at Planned Parenthood.  It looks like you could pretty much forget anyone there saving the young girl.  Worse yet imagine teenage girls having to rely on these so-called professionals for advice on a complex issue like abortion.

Planned Parenthood is still standing by the fact that they reported Live Action to the FBI some six days after the stings were performed.  This seems like a pretty weak excuse because if a pattern was not detected both of these workers would have helped with under age sex trade.

Planned Parenthood fires worker after sting video

Yesterday Live Action Blog released its sting video showing how a New Jersey Planned Parenthood worker helped a pimp and a prostitute with information on getting illegal under aged sex slaves abortions. Planned Parenthood claimed they were innocent because they reported a possible prostitution ring to the FBI.  The full unedited video above makes pretty clear that the worker was more interested in providing assistance to the illegal operation, than to thwarting any crime.

Today Central New Jersey Planned Parenthood has fired the oh so helpful worker.

NJ.Com: PERTH AMBOY — The man and woman walked into the Planned Parenthood clinic in Perth Amboy sounding like the operators of a child sex ring looking for help with their business.
They told the manager they would bring in girls as young as 14 for tests, birth control and abortion referrals and wanted to know what kind of questions to expect from clinic employees.
The manager was helpful. She coached them to lie about the age of the girls’ sex partners. "If they are a minor, we are obligated if we hear certain information, to kind of report (it)," the manager said. "So as long as they just lie and say, ‘Oh, he’s 15, 16,’ ’’ no one should question them. [...]
Tuesday night, Central Jersey Planned Parenthood fired the manager, identified in the video as Amy Woodruff, and beefed up security around its clinics.
"We were profoundly shocked when we viewed the videotape released [Tuesday] morning, which depicted an employee of one of our health centers behaving in a repugnant manner that is inconsistent with our standards of care and is completely unacceptable,'' Phyllis Kinsler, executive director of Planned Parenthood of Central Jersey said in a statement released at 10:20 p.m.
"We have a zero tolerance policy for this kind of behavior, and the employee in the video was immediately suspended from her duties [Tuesday] morning and was terminated [Tuesday] evening," Kinsler said. "We are fully committed to delivering high-quality reproductive health care to the women of our communities, complying with all laws, and upholding the highest ethical standards."
She also condemned Live Action's sting, questioning how dramatically the video was edited.
As you can see from the unedited version of the video, there is little difference in what happened from the edited version.
Last year Chris Christie has cut funding to some 58 family planning centers in NJ.  I think it is time for him to consider cutting funding to all the rest.  Liberals really believe in Planned Parenthood, so why can't they put their money where their mouth is and privately fund these operations?  Lord knows there is no shortage of wealthy liberals.
I have to say, I am quite surprised that this sting even worked.  After the ACORN videos, one would think that all lefty organizations would be hip to "the pimp and prostitute sting".  Unless of course helping pimps and prostitutes with their under aged sex slaves is just everyday business.

Video: Suffering children should be suffocated

The Blaze: Advice columnists in Britain are known as “agony aunts” (or uncles).  Virginia Ironside is one.  Her latest bit of advice has drawn outraged reaction from television viewers who caught her comments on the BBC yesterday.  She appeared during a segment called, “Can abortion be a kindness?” Here’s the Daily Mail account of her comments:
Miss Ironside said: ‘If a baby’s going to be born severely disabled or totally unwanted, surely an abortion is the act of a loving mother.’
She added: ‘If I were the mother of a suffering child – I mean a deeply suffering child – I would be the first to want to put a pillow over its face… If it was a child I really loved, who was in agony, I think any good mother would.’

I saw this video yesterday on The Right Scoop.  Then Glenn Beck highlighted it on his TV show.  This is what happens when you take abortion one step too far.  It is the same flawed line of thinking that believes it is better to abort children born to disadvantaged parents than to raise them in a life of poverty.  Nonsense! Without a100% accurate crystal ball, there is absolutely no way of knowing which children will rise above their circumstances. Only a chance at life can determine that.
One of my clients is a nonprofit pediatric cancer organization. I have met many of the parents and their inflicted children. From firsthand knowledge I have seen parents forfeit their physical, emotional and financial well being to extend LIFE for their inflicted children. Euthanasia is the furthest thing from their minds. So I have no idea what this woman is talking about when she says; “I think any good mother would”.
I wish the story at The Blaze included whether or not Virginia Ironside has any children. I would love to know if she is speaking as a real mother or as just another BS academic talking hypothetically about real world issues.

Chris Christie yanks Planned Parenthood funding in NJ

I just finished reading the GOP’s less than bold Pledge to America, and then I came across this item at National Review:
Part of Gov. Chris Christie’s belt-tightening plan for New Jersey was the termination of $7.5 million in public funding for Planned Parenthood clinics in the state, a decision Democrats in the legislature countermanded with a bill that cleared the Senate with a 30-10 vote — sufficient to override a veto. But when that veto came and the Democrats scheduled an override vote, Republicans in the legislature backed down, and the measure failed 23-17.
Now, Planned Parenthood facilities in the state are shuttering their doors:
After the New Jersey state Senate defeated an attempt to override the decision of Gov. Chris Christie to cut off state taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood abortion businesses, the first facility run by the national abortion giant is closing.
The Cherry Hill Courier Post newspaper says a Planned Parenthood facility located on Haddonfield Road and operated by Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey will close down.
PP-SNJ stands to lose as much as $160,000 in taxpayer funds because of Christie’s decision and the upholding of his veto. With the closing of the Cherry Hill center, Planned Parenthood customers seeking abortions or other “services” must go to PP centers in Camden, Bellmawr, and Edgewater Park.
More here.
Imagine that, taking on one the left’s sacred cows and having NJ Senate Republicans mimic Christie’s testosterone.

The thing I would like to know is why can pro abortion advocates privately fund abortion?  I am a pro-lifer and I fervently believe all innocent life deserves a chance at life.  So strongly is my belief that I am willing to put my money where my mouth is and I give as generously as I can to the pro-life cause.  If pro-abortion advocates believe as strongly as I do, why don’t they fund their own cause, rather than constantly try to have the public pick up the tab through the back door?

As very hard times approach this nation, it is high time we all give a serious look at all of these supposed “sacred cows” that must constantly be funded.
The National GOP would do well to ask Chris Christie to help them rewrite their pledge. As the current Pledge stands now, it is the basic stuff that Republicans should have been doing all along.  It doesn’t tackle the hard stuff like runaway entitlements.

Here is a little advice from Chris Christie for the national GOP :

Were Stupak and crew paid off with earmarks?

The Sunlight Foundation is taking a very close look at earmark request from Bart Stupak and 10 other so-called “Pro-Life” Democrats. The Sunlight Foundation seems to think that these earmarks represent a quid pro quo for Stupak and crew’s caving on their abortion stance.
Fox News: The 11 House Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak who dropped their opposition to health care reform legislation mere hours before the final vote have requested $3.4 billion in earmarks -- and one watchdog group wants to know whether the money represents business as usual or political payoffs.
The Sunlight Foundation says it plans to track the earmark requests, which were put in one day after health care reform cleared Congress, to see whether they're approved and whether it appears lawmakers are being rewarded for their vote.
[…]
The individual earmarks requests from each of those lawmakers range from $20 million to $1.4 billion. Of the eight lawmakers whose 2010 requests were available for comparison, five requested more money than they did a year ago. Stupak requested $579 million.
Here are the earmark amounts requested by the 11 House Democrats in the 2011 bill:
Rep. Jerry Costello of Illinois.: $1,418.7 million ($256.4 million in 2010)
Rep. Solomon Ortiz of Texas: $618 million ($726.1 million in 2010)
Stupak of Michigan: $578.9 million
Rep. Steve Driehaus of Ohio: $332.2 million
Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio: $294 million ($305.7 million in 2010)
Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper of Pennsylvania: $236.8 million ($54 million in 2010)
Rep. James Oberstar of Minnesota.: $207 million ($226 million in 2010)
Rep. Brad Ellsworth of Indiana.: $115.4 million ($82.3 million in 2010)
Rep. Charles Wilson of Ohio: $84 million ($62.3 million in 2010)
Rep. Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania.: $67.1 million
Rep. Joseph Donnelly of Indiana: $19.8 million ($11.65 million in 2010)
The Sunlight Foundation also says it is going to look at Republican earmarks. House Republicans say they are not requesting any earmarks for the next fiscal year, but Allison said the Sunlight Foundation will watch GOP senators to see if they appear to be putting in earmark requests for their House colleagues.
Stupak obviously denies any quid pro quo, but given the wild deal making that went on in the Senate and the absolute desperation of Obama and Pelosi, one could easily imagine that these earmarks are payoffs. I hope they are not. If Stupak and the “Pro-Life” Dems traded safeguards for the unborn for earmarks, then they are truly despicable individuals.

Randy Neugebauer responds to the left

Yesterday I wasn’t too impressed with Neugebauer. I thought he was going squishy with his apology to that sucker Stupak for the “baby killer” outburst.  Today, I have newfound respect for the man.

The left was starting their usual drumbeat of faux righteous indignation and demanding Neugebauer apologize for his outburst on the House floor. So he made this video and contacted Eric Erickson at Red State with this statement:
I am Randy Neugebauer, the Congressman who said the Democrat’s health care bill is a baby-killer. Now, Democrats are demanding that I apologize for it. I think Red State is a good place to respond to that request, and Erick Erickson was kind enough to allow me to do so.
While the floor of the House was the wrong place to shout out my objection, the fact remains that this legislation will kill babies. And yet, in the face of bi-partisan opposition, Democrats passed the bill anyway.
We now have a clear mission. We must fight like the lives of our children depend upon it. They do. I will fight to repeal this bill. Will you?
Neugebauer also made a statement to Hot Air:
I am Randy Neugebauer, the Congressman who said the Democrat’s health care bill is a baby-killer. Hot Air has graciously allowed me to respond to the vicious attacks that have been launched against me for defending the lives of the unborn.
You know, the recent “Louisiana Purchase” and “Cornhusker Kickbacks” in the health care bill were backroom deals about money. Those are offensive enough, but what happened late Sunday was far worse. It is one thing to make backroom deals for money, but on Sunday, Democrats traded the lives of unborn children so they could make a deal on their legislation. I was outraged that this bill would be a baby killer. Democrats are outraged that I said that out loud.
Well, here is something else I will say out loud: This baby-killer of a bill must be repealed.
I here by take back everything I said about Neugebaur yesterday and will send this true defender of life a check. Way to go Randy!

Obama plays Stupak for a fool, doesn’t sign Executive Order on abortion today

President Obama signed the Senate health care bill into law Tuesday. He did not sign the executive order on abortion negotiated with Michigan Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak in an 11th-hour arrangement that may well have saved the entire health care reform effort.
A White House official told Fox, Obama will not sign the Executive Order Tuesday and has set no specific date to do so. Stupak predicted Obama would sign the order later this week. The White House said only that Obama would sign the order "soon."
In two celebratory speeches Tuesday - one at the bill's signing, the other at the Interior Department with health care advocates - Obama said nothing about the abortion issue or the executive order. [MORE]
There is a sucker born every minute and right now Bart Stupak is probably the biggest sucker in America. His vote and the remaining votes from his so-called “Pro-Life” group was worth the world to Obama and the Democrat leadership. Knowing he was going to cave anyway, Stupak could have asked for anything from the ridiculous to the sublime and probably would have gotten it with sugar on top.

So after living in hell right up to the final hours of debate, Stupak finally caves for an unsigned executive order that not only can be rescinded in the blink of an eye, but also may not even have effect on the law it was meant to modify. Of course there is possible evidence that Stupak also got some federal money for his district, but in comparison to what others received, he got gypped on that deal too.

Stupak is now trying to save face by defending the executive order. He actually says executive order is akin to the Emancipation Proclamation!
"Throughout history, Executive Orders have been an important means of implementing public policy," Stupak said in a statement. "The most famous Executive Order was the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln in 1863."
What a fool and a half, the unsigned executive order Stupak got is like toilet paper and used toilet paper at that.

With each day that passes that Obama doesn’t sign the executive order, Supak’s reputation gets torn into smaller and smaller pieces – and you know what? He deserves it.

Rep. Randy Neugebauer admits to yelling “baby killer”

Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) admits that he was the guy you yelled “baby killer” during Bart Stupak’s speech on the House floor. Neugebauer says he was talking about the bill and not Bart Stupak.
From Politico: “Last night was the climax of weeks and months of debate on a health care bill that my constituents fear and do not support,” Neugebauer said in a news release. “In the heat and emotion of the debate, I exclaimed the phrase ‘it’s a baby killer’ in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership. While I remain heartbroken over the passage of this bill and the tragic consequences it will have for the unborn, I deeply regret that my actions were mistakenly interpreted as a direct reference to Congressman Stupak himself.”

I said earlier today, I really don’t care who said it or why. Given the Democrats behavior over health care they are not deserving of many kind words. to me Neugebauer sounds like he is covering his ass with an apology. If so he is being your typical wimpy Republican who goes out of his way not to offend the delicate sensibilities of leftists. This is an exercise in futility, because leftists heap scorn upon Republicans and conservatives no matter what they say or do, so why waste time placating them?

There is no way to really know if Neugebauer meant Stupak or the bill, the audio is not that clear. However, if Neugebauer really did mean to call Stupak a baby killer, then he should have the two stones to stand by the statement. These empty apologies by elected officials are growing very tiresome.

Has Pelosi reached a deal with Bart Stupak?

This story is breaking on the lefty site Fire Dog Lake, so take it as you will.
From Fire Dog Lake: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made a deal with Rep. Bart Stupak in order to secure his vote and that of other anti-choice Democrats for the health care bill, which is scheduled to be voted on this Sunday. According to a member of Congress who was briefed on the matter, Pelosi has agreed to let Stupak have a vote on his amendment either before or after the House votes to pass the Senate bill. It instructs the Senate to substitute the language in his amendment for the Senate language on abortion.
FDL has obtained a copy of the concurrent resolution (PDF1PDF2PDF3PDF4), which includes cosponsors Marion Berry, Sanford Bishop, Joseph Cao, Kathy Dahlkemper, Steve Driehaus, Marcy Kaptur, Dan Lipinski, Alan Mollohan, and Nick Rahall. A second source confirms that with the exception of Cao, these are the members of Congress who are still on the fence. Cao is still considered a firm “no” vote.
The deal calls for Stupak to have a vote on his amendment either before or after the House votes to confirm the Senate bill on Sunday. Stupak is confident that he has the votes to pass the measure, and is happy to have the vote after the House passes the Senate bill. He believes that by using a “tie bar” approach, his amendment would be “tied” to the health care bill — which would require just 51 votes in the Senate.
Pro-choice members of the House, however, are demanding that the vote on the Concurrent Resolution happen before the House confirms the Senate bill. If in fact it passes, they plan to vote against confirming the Senate bill. They want Rep. Diana Degette to release the names of the 41 cosigners to her letter who pledged to vote against any bill that restricts a woman’s right to choose, and they are angry that the White House has been whipping to push through the Stupak deal.
If this is true it is pretty risky of Nancy. Pro-Choice Dems might bolt over this, unless of course Nancy’s girls only meeting was all about buying off the pro-choicers in advance.  If Nancy is cutting a deal with Stupak, which must mean she has less votes than has been publicized.

Bart Stupak is scheduled for a presser today at 11:00 am, we should know then if a deal was made and we should expect him to cave on the spot.  Stay tuned.

Evil! Using abortion to cut health care costs

Over at the National Review Online (NRO), Robert Costa tells us about a telephone interview Bart Stupak had with NRO.  In the interview, Stupak tells us about how Pro-Life Dems are starting to cave under pressure from the White House, Pelosi, unions and the nutroots.

The part of the interview that made my stomach churn was the attitude of Democrat House leaders that Stupak describes as follows:
Stupak notes that his negotiations with House Democratic leaders in recent days have been revealing. “I really believe that the Democratic leadership is simply unwilling to change its stance,” he says. “Their position says that women, especially those without means available, should have their abortions covered.” The arguments they have made to him in recent deliberations, he adds, “are a pretty sad commentary on the state of the Democratic party.”
What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.” [MORE]
There is only one way to describe such thoughts and that is EVIL! Facilitating abortion that snuffs out innocent human life, all for the sake of saving government money is EVIL. Knowing that the money “saved” will not doubt end up wasted on fraud and corruption is even more EVIL.  If having the government run health care means we all have to accept such concepts, then I say kill this evil bill right here and right now.

Stupak says he isn’t caving

Yesterday Bart Stupak was "more optimistic" about a deal being reached on the abortion language in the Senate Bill. Today, Stupak is standing firm saying he isn’t caving.
From The Weekly Standard: "Everyone’s going around saying there’s a compromise—there’s no such thing," Stupak said. What's changed between this week and last, Stupak went on, is that he had his first real conversation with Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Congressman Henry Waxman about fixing the bill…
Stupak affirmed that he will not settle for an agreement to pass the bill now and fix the bill's problems on abortion later: "If they say 'we’ll give you a letter saying we'll take care of this later,' that’s not acceptable because later never comes."
It is a relief to see that Stupak understands that once the House votes for the Senate Bill, all that talk about fixing things will evaporate. So we can hopefully not worry that he will fall for empty promises about a separate bill to fix the abortion language.

Even with the understanding that the vote-now-fix-later schemes are all hog wash, I not sure I would want to bet the farm that Stupak doesn’t cave. Until the final vote on ObamaCare comes, all of these House Rep’s statements should be taken with a grain of salt.

Stupak starts singing a different tune on ObamaCare

Talk about déjà vu, last time the House voted on ObaamCare, Bart Stupak made his principled stand and then caved like a house of cards. It looks like he is going for the replay.
From Hot Air: Rep. Bart Stupak said he expects to resume talks with House leaders this week in a quest for wording that would impose no new limits on abortion rights but also would not allow use of federal money for the procedure.
“I’m more optimistic than I was a week ago,” Stupak said in an interview between meetings with constituents in his northern Michigan district. He was hosting a town hall meeting Monday night at a local high school.
“The president says he doesn’t want to expand or restrict current law (on abortion). Neither do I,” Stupak said. “That’s never been our position. So is there some language that we can agree on that hits both points — we don’t restrict, we don’t expand abortion rights? I think we can get there.”
Should Stupak cave, a real possibility, then Nancy will be very close to having those magical 216 votes, at least on paper. However, I suspect that there are more NO votes out there than many House Dems will publicly admit.

I say this because the health care debate has come down to a single question for House Democrats; should they trade their political future for Obama’s? Considering that it was Obama and his policies that have left so many House Dems vulnerable, I think many of them will not be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice when the time comes. With the razor thin margins Pelosi will be working with, all it would take only one or two concealed NO votes to pull the rug out from under her at the last minute.

Controversial ad address a painful truth

I found this story on Huffington Post tonight (yes, I sanitized my keyboard) about the billboard in the picture above.  The Georgia Right to Life sponsors the billboard.  The ad has gotten mixed reviews. While saying black children are an endangered species may offend the delicate PC sensibilities of some, the numbers don’t lie, more black children are aborted than the top seven causes of death for black people nationwide.

From CNS News [emphasis added mine]:
Abortion killed at least 203,991 blacks in the 36 states and two cities (New York City and the District of Columbia) that reported abortions by race in 2005, according to the CDC.  During that same year, according to the CDC, a total of 198,385 blacks nationwide died from heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases combined.  These were the seven leading causes of death for black Americans that year.
You can only imagine what the real number is when you count all 50 states. If being controversial is what it takes to finally address this madness, then so be it.
