Over at Legal Insurrection, William ponders about what causes the left to hate Trig Palin. He closes his post with this statement:
If Sarah Palin had aborted Trig, the left would have been okay with it. If she hid Trig offstage and out of sight, all would be good. But treat the child as you would any other child, and that cannot be tolerated.

There is something about a Down syndrome child in plain view, which has exposed the moral and emotional bankruptcy of the left-wing of the Democratic party. And they hate Sarah Palin because deep down, they hate themselves for being who they are.
William is close, but not quite there. The reason why they hate Trig and Sarah is because the two of them force people who believe in abortion to confront their actions.
A look at Sarah Palin’s circumstance before giving birth to Trig, one finds that she had all of the touted reasons for having an abortion. Palin was in her forties, had four children already, a very big and demanding job and her son to be was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. Palin even acknowledges her temptation to change her circumstances in her Pro Life speech in Evansville, IN. As we all know, Palin chose life and unlike what Obama and many other pro-abortion supporters believe, Palin wasn’t punished for it. Instead Palin is happy, happy with Trig, happy with her life and happy with her new circumstances. Furthermore, it did not slow her down either; she went on to run for VP as well.
Now imagine women with lesser circumstances than Palin and they aborted their child for any of the circumstances above. When they look at Sarah and Trig, there may well be feelings of doubt, shame, guilt or selfishness. These are very hard and ugly emotions to confront themselves with. However, in our blame free society, it is far easier to lash out at Sarah and Trig for causing these questions to be raised.
For those who promote abortion, they see Sarah and Trig and must realize that they may very well be promoting a very painful lie. Again, it is easier to lash out at Sarah and Trig than to question their promotion of abortion.
Unlike many conservatives who can only argue for Pro-Life, Palin and Trig are physical proof of the Pro-Life argument. For the left, there is no physical answer to them, thus they hate.

I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis, Clif. Sarah and Trig Palin are living, breathing proof that abortion is NOT the answer in dire circumstances. Pro-choice liberals have no credible refutation of that so, as you point out, they resort to hate. They really would prefer that Trig Palin not exist. That's not only sad, it's frightening.
Clifton,
I also read this on William's blog and was wondering how much truth there was in it.
I feel as though, you are a little closer to the right answer though. It's amazing the attacks people have made on her children.
Personally, I think they secretly want her to be a liberal. I think they are mad that there is such a successful, accomplished, and beautiful woman helping the other side. They see in her what they are missing on their side and they can't stand it. They see her as a traitor when she was never for them.
I don't see any of this argument as factual. I have never heard a hateful remark about Trig. The left dislikes Palin because of her extremist views, certainly not because of her downs baby. Why must conservatives keep digging deeper and deeper to try to find ways to blame the left for their failures as a party? Those who are Pro-choice don't hate pro-life, thats why we are pro-choice, we believe everyone has the right to do what is in their best interest. We can applaude Palin for birthing her Downs baby, but as for her political stances, Hell No.
Great post- I might add that if she wants to run, she has to compete with Romney, Gingrich, and the Huckster- and none of them have day jobs.
Palin’s move puts yet more pressure on Obama to finally get some results, as the soaring rhetoric isn’t hypnotizing the plebes like it used to. This week Helen Thomas, Colin Powell, and Warren Buffet all turned on him. Polls are looking droopy for The One lately.
Obama’s porkulus program is a train wreck, all it’s done is bump interest rates and tank the dollar. We are being laughed at by bad guys like Tehran, Pyongyang, and Al Qaida who amazingly turned-down Barack’s friend-requests.
Palin could trounce him in 2012, when Americans would vote for the Gipper-in-Heels in droves- while begging for lower taxes, free enterpise, a defense posture with some backbone… an end to the radical, anti-American nightmare we’ve got now.
Go get ‘em Sarah-
Seane-Anne:
Exactly, since they cannot refute, they hate.
Conservative Generation:
Ah you touch on another aspect of the hatred...jealousy.
Sue:
I am sorry Sue, but this line:
"I have never heard a hateful remark about Trig.",
tells me one or two things
1.You are being completely disingenuous or,
2.You have not been paying any attention to the news.
Please click on the link for Legal Insurrection in the above story and look at the examples William provides.
Reganite Republican:
The way I see it, Palin's plan is to act as the voice of sanity against Obama and the left. She like many conservatives realize it has to be done NOW not in the fall of 2012. It may ruin her 2012 chances but it will save America today.
Clifton B:
I always thought the Left hates Palin because she is nothing like them. She wasn't raised in the city and was not Ivy League educated.
That being said though, I completely agree with your post.
Sue doesn't think that Trig Palin has been a target of left. Whoa, that is too funny. A friend of mine actually said she had no right to have that child. No right. Not a bad decision, not a difficult choice, but she was a bad person for having a developmently disabled child. Sue may be more opened minded about it, but that is not the way the big NARAL supporters of the left feel. Also, let's not forget that another big story line of the left is how bad a mother she is that her daughter had a child. If she took Bristol to an abortion clinic in front of the camera's she would have been heralded as a great mother, which is sick.
49er16:
She wasn't raised in the city and was not Ivy League educated.
Make no mistake there is a class component in play as well. The elites’ disdain for Palin is because she refuses to acknowledge their perceived superiority or conform to their set standards.
JACG:
Yeah, that Trig not being a target thing was just a tad too much. The whole Palin not aborting Trig and being really happy with him is the crux of most Palin hatred. It makes pro-choice women second guess on an irreversible decision. Rather than confront those doubts and fear, they find it easier to lash out at Palin and Trig for stirring up those doubts.
I think, deep down, liberals know their policies suck...They can't compete on the arena of ideas but must "trick" people into voting for them. Their sole goal is to gain power and to implement their idea of Eutopia. Based on that premise, they fear Palin as they feared Reagan...He was a man of strong character, strong principles and didn't back down from a fight. I see these same qualities in Palin. Additionally, she/he have/had an amazing ability to connect with normal Americans. This ticks the elites off because "they" alone should decide who is qualified to play in their catbox, whick makes them quake in their boots. Go, Palin, Go!
