Sarah Palin Calls Out Newsweek For Their Sexist Cover

Newsweek’s cover where they use photos from Runner’s World Magazine did not escape Sarah Palin’s attention and she has called them out on her Facebook page:
Newsweek

The choice of photo for the cover of this week's Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this "news" magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner's World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness - a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention - even if out of context.

- Sarah Palin

Sarah is right, there must be tens of thousand of images of Palin on the campaign trail and new photos are cropping up now that she is on the book tour. Why then must Newsweek use the photo from Runner’s World?  Simple the left is threatened by conservative women and therefore must mock and demean them any way they can.  Think of all the outspoken conservative women, I cannot think of a single one that has not been targeted by the left with sexism or blatant misogyny.  What is even worse is that these so called champions of women on the left are the biggest hypocrites goings. They never utter a peep when women on the right are slammed.

This approach to 'journalism' by the editors of Newsweek should really not surprise us. They are as leftist, socialist and Marxist and the old editors of Pravda and Izvestia in the USSR: spin it towards the State's view, and spin it hard.

Hey, it worked for Breshnyev and the gang for years. Sarah Palin is as tough as a two dollar steak, she can take it, and like Sarah, we should all just consider the source. Who buys Newsweek anymore, anyway? Not me.

One would think that such a photo belonged on the cover of "Joggers Weekly" or something. I guess there are no other photos of Mrs. Palin. I mean- she was never prominent in the media at all, hence, the lack of any other photos. This unique photo is up there with the Sasquatch or Loch Ness monster.
Joking aside, the liberal media will focus on how she looks in order to take a break from disparaging her in some fashion. Such maturity the media displays!

Another great analysis, Clifton. You are at your best when you share your personal views on these controversies.

This is media BIAS on steroids. Not only is the picture inappropriate, the subtitles are terrible: that Palin is bad for the GOP and everyone else. Who gave these asshats the right to speak for the whole country?

Most conservative women don't give a flip about the ramblings from the left of either gender.

Newsweek "Palin is bad news for the GOP -- and for everybody else too."

They need to change their name to "Opinionweek" or "Democratweek."

...And it's not even a smart opinion.

If she's bad news for the GOP, and she brings the Republican Party down with her, she can't be very effective in being "bad news for everybody else", can she?

I'm new here, so excuse the ignorance, but how exactly is this "sexist"? She posed for the photos for another magazine. She is no longer a public servant. Newsweek is shooting to be provocative, so they run this photo, which is very tasteful, and hardly a PhotoShop job.

Again, uhhhh, where's the sexism?

Seems to me like Palin's very much in control of her public image and manipulates it when it fits her personal agenda (ie: posing in biker shorts), but gets mad when it doesn't.

Cry me a river.

I do agree somewhat with Average Bro, I don't really see this as entirely sexist. But I do see it as yet another indication that Newsweek simply can't be taken seriously anymore. If this isn't yellow journalism then I can't imagine what would be. The only substantial difference between Newsweek and the National Enquirer is that Newsweek is printed on better stock paper.

It's sexism in the fact that when Newsweek takes pictures of other politicians, they are in suits, etc... But they used a picture of Palin from "Runner's World" - hardly professional.

Obama has never been on their cover in running shorts and as someone said above, were there no other pictures of her that painted her in a more professional light?

Plus, the line they print near it: "Sarah Palin bad for GOP... and for everybody else too". It was no accident - they were trying to paint her in a less than positive light.

oh yeah, and newsweek sucks. sarah rocks! LOVE her.

Forgive me if this rubs some of you the wrong way. Again, I am a newbie here. I have to ask...

Do you all consider Palin a legit Prez candidate? If so, please eschew talking points and explain to me why. What has she done to date that gives you confidence she can lead the country. Please don't use any comparisons to Obama's experience. Explain why Palin, on her own merit, is qualified.

I have not read Newsweek since junior high school and that goes for the New York Times as well.

One of the good things about the media's Sarah bashing is that it totally exposed the insincerity of the left.

I do believe the media is going to make Sarah Palin into teflon just like the Republicans did to Hillary. I remember how Republicans pilloried Hillary up and down. When it came time to run for President, everyone merely turned a deaf ear to all her scandals because they had heard them endlessly for years.

Stogie:

Thanks for the compliments. When a rinky dink operation like Newsweak tells you Palin is bad, you just know she is good.

Clifton B said...

Janelle:

It is good to hear that, because they sure do disparage conservative women.

Right Klik:

You are right there is a flaw in the premise. If she is bad for the GOP wouldn't that make her exceptionally good for the DNC?

Welcome to ABC. The reason the use of the photo is sexist is because they are talking about the politics. Why then use a photo from her article in Runners World? Unless of course Newsweek is admitting they don't respect her for her political abilities but appreciates her form (sexist)

Palin posed in the RUNNING shorts because she is an avid runner and did an article for Runners World. You would not expect her to be in a business suit in an athletic magazine.

Finally, do you remember that photo of Obama shirtless at the beach? Wouldn't you find it weird if Newsweek used that photo on an article on Obama's dithering in Afghanistan?

Killer line, LOL!

Newsweek's agenda is all to transparent. That is the good thing about all the Palin bashing, you get to see the left's true colors.

I will take it one step further, all of those victim organizations on the left are all about shilling for the left and not for the victims they suppose to champion.

Average Bro:

Yes I do think she is a qualified candidate. Here are a few examples why:

1. Upon leaving office, Palin's budget for Alaska fiscal year 2010 will come in well under the previous governor's 2007 budget. With our national debt topping $12 trillion today, wouldn't it be nice to have someone who actually has experience in cutting budgets.

2. Palin in just over a year was able to get the Alaska gas pipeline project underway. It had been stalled for 40 years. Now two pipelines are being built. This will accomplish two major tasks. First, it gives Alaska another much needed revenue steam. Second, it will create thousands of jobs with private sector money. Have you been to Recovery.gov? Have you seen the millions that are spent to create something like 20 or 30 jobs? Wouldn't it be better to use private sector money to produce thousands of jobs than to waste millions in tax payer money for less than a hundred jobs?

3. Palin fights corruption. Did you know Palin blew the whistle on her own party when she found them making sweetheart deals with the oil companies in Alaska? Washington is rife with corruption, wouldn't it be nice to know the person at the top actually has experience with fighting corruption.

4. Palin like all governors was the commander in chief of her states national guard. Did you know that Alaska's national guard is the only one in the country on 24 hour duty. It is always active because they man the early warning radars and missile interceptors at the Kodiak launch facility. Because she was commander and chief for that national guard her security clearance at the time of the 08 election was higher than McCain's, Biden's and Obama's? So if you think Sarah Palin defending the country is scary, forget it, she has been keeping you safe since 2007.

Need anymore examples? I would be happy to provide. I would advise you to visit alaska.gov and learn first hand the many things Palin has accomplished the the media refuses to report. Then you will understand why so many easily find her qualified.

The whole point of the cover is to make a sexy joke out of her so that no one will look at her awesome track-record. The assumption it leads to is that an attractive woman can't run a country, which is extremely sexist. The focus of the picture is on her legs, which look great BTW, but they are talking about her politically. It is entirely irrelevant except to make her a sex-symbol. It is absolutely sexist, and I'm so tired of Feminist hypocrites- arguing against human rights (by being pro-abortion), and defending only Liberal women while ignoring blatant sexism against Conservative women.

Thanks Clifton for your brilliant answer to Average Bro. Its sad that a lot of people still doesn't know how accomplished and successful Governor Palin was. In her 2 yrs in office she has done far more than other Governors and btw when a lot of states are facing budget deficit, AK this year still post a 250 million surplus even if the prices of oil went down.

Turns out the photo Newsweak used was not given to them by Runners World, it was from the photographers stock.

So, Newsweak (intentional mispelling) lifts other folks work, then have the gaul to call Sarah 'trouble'?
