Popcorn Time! Al Franken vs. David Axelrod over healthcare

Up for some Dem on Dem action? I knew that you were.  Yesterday, I told you there were some angry voices over healthcare after Obama’s dog and pony show with the Dems. Well, it turns out that the most irate Senator was none other than Stuart Smalley himself Al Franken. Apparently, Franken flipped out on David Axelrod because Obama won’t lead on healthcare reoform.

Sen. Al Franken ripped into White House senior adviser David Axelrod this week during a tense, closed-door session with Senate Democrats.

Five sources who were in the room tell POLITICO that Franken criticized Axelrod for the administration’s failure to provide clarity or direction on health care and the other big bills it wants Congress to enact.

The sources said Franken was the most outspoken senator in the meeting, which followed President Barack Obama’s question-and-answer session with Senate Democrats at the Newseum on Wednesday. But they also said the Minnesotan wasn’t the only angry Democrat in the room.

“There was a lot of frustration in there,” said a Democratic senator who declined to be identified.

“People were hot,” another Democratic senator said.

Democratic senators are frustrated that the White House hasn’t done more to win over the public on health care reform and other aspects of its ambitious agenda — and angry that, in the wake of Scott Brown’s win in the Massachusetts Senate race, the White House hasn’t done more to chart a course for getting a health care bill to the president’s desk. 

I hate to be the one to say, I told you so, but when Franken was sworn in, I knew he would be trouble for the Dems. Reap what you sow guys, reap what you sow.

We should all be thankful they are fighting themselves that means there is less time for them to ruin the nation further. As for leadership, these Democrat senators are dense. They haven’t figured out that Obama has every intention of leaving them with holding the dead corpse of ObamaCare. That is why there is no leadership. He threw the entire process to Congress and let the chips fall where they may, once it got totally botched Obama simply “pivoted” on to destroying jobs and wrecking the economy.  Obama was never a leader, he was simply a senator who voted present, and right now he is voting present by moving on to something else.

I do like the idea of letting people know the consequences of a Democrat supermajority and it is high time to remind people that the Democrats own the economy now. No more Bush’s fault nonsense, Obama and the Democrats ran up these obscene and immoral deficits and it is time they own it.

What I don’t think works here is Al Franken. Franken’s Howard Dean like ranting, doesn’t quite fit here as you scroll through the consequences of the Democrats 60 votes. Al Franken is tailor made for all things batshit crazy. I would save his image for the insane proposals like Stimulus II or Cap and Trade.

Some thoughts on Al Franken

Here are some of my thoughts on Al Franken in the senate.

• First, while Democrats get their 60 vote filibuster proof majority, I don’t think they will be able to use it on the big-ticket items like Cap and Trade and Healthcare. I do expect them to use it on the less controversial items. To make sure this doesn’t happen too often, conservatives from red states with Democrat senators need to start impressing upon those senators that following the progressive agenda will be hazardous to their political career come election time. Make no mistake; the far left is leaning on those conservative Democrat senators as well.
  


• Franken does give the Democrats a fairly consistent vote for their more progressive policies.


• Democrats may soon find that having Franken in the senate is less appealing than they thought. Franken has a history of saying and doing weird things.
  


• I suspect that Franken will initially try to play the role of statesman, but sooner or later his inner moonbat will come out. I see a YouTube moment in the making.
  


• If Republicans are smart, they will quickly try to paint any Franken moonbattiness as the face of the Democrat Party.

UPDATE: Ok Tim Pawlenty, It’s Show Time!

Today the Minnesota Supreme Court has ruled in Al Franken’s favor, but has stopped short from ordering Governor Tim Pawlenty to certify the election. Tim Pawlenty has stated in the past that he would certify Franken if ordered by the courts to do so. Well, the clock just started ticking for Governor Pawlenty's chances as a 2012 GOP candidate.

Right now it only appears that the RINO class of the GOP leadership is singing Pawlenty’s praises. The base of the party remains unimpressed. Should Pawlenty hold true to his words, he will gain much-needed street cred with the base, while earning PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) level hatred from the left. However, if Pawlenty chooses to use today’s Minnesota Supreme court ruling as a go ahead to certify Franken, he will earn tons of media praise as a “sensible Republican”. In going this route, Pawlenty will certainly be kissing his 2012 presidential ambitions bye-bye, because the base is in no mood for “sensible Republicans” as defined by the media.

So light the lights and cue the orchestra, it’ show time for Tim Pawlenty! Can he choose wisely?
