Michele Bachmann 2012 looks like a go

CNN: Washington (CNN) – CNN has exclusively learned that Rep. Michele Bachmann will form a presidential exploratory committee. The Minnesota Republican plans to file papers for the committee in early June, with an announcement likely around that same time.
But a source close to the congresswoman said that Bachmann could form the exploratory committee even earlier than June so that she could participate in early Republican presidential debates.
"She's been telling everyone early summer," the source told CNN regarding Bachmann's planned June filing and announcement. But the source said that nothing is static.
"If you [debate sponsors] come to us and say, 'To be in our debates, you have to have an exploratory committee,' then we'll say, 'Okay, fine...I'll go file the forms.'" [MORE]
It looks like Bachmann is quite serious about this. I kind of wish she wasn't. I like Bachmann a lot, I think she will add a much need voice in the debates. However, just like Allen West, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, I really wish she would become a governor first. After the 2008 presidential race, the idea of legislators going to the presidency leaves me wanting.

Where I would like to see Bachmann in 2012 is in John Boenher's seat. Day by day Boenher is proving himself to be yesterday's news and completely inadequate in moving to House towards the serious cuts needed. Bachmann on the other hand clearly sees the financial danger America is facing.

On the plus side, Bachmann will offer conservatives another choice to Herman Cain (the only other true conservative exploring a presidential run). Should Palin run that will make three. It then becomes important for conservatives to do their homework and begin making their first, second and third place choices. In addition to that, conservatives must stand ready to be fluid with their choices otherwise we risk on of the RINO candidates becoming our nominee.

Win, lose or draw, Bachmann will certainly spice up the presidential debates and will be sure to make sure the TEA Party point of view is heard.

What are your thoughts?

I agree with your take. I do hope that true conservative, common sense, limited constitutional government views are given strong, compelling expression throughout the race. Bachmann may be at least one step toward that end. Sure would love to see Palin in the White House with VP West, working together with Madame Speaker Bachmann. And of course with Cain as Secretary of Somethingorother. Yeah, I don't have it ALL planned out yet... but a girl can dream.

Right now I want to see someone in the Oval Office who will not mince words and knows Exactly what needs to be done regarding foreign policy and regarding enemies, foreign AND domestic. Someone who will honor the US Constitution and not be afraid to call a spade a spade and won't take shit from anyone.
I want to hear that Allen West is running for president in 2012.

There look to be some really good candidates emerging. I'm still in the ABO club, though. Another four years of uh, uh, um is not acceptable.

Sorry, but Palin, Cain, and Bachman all lose to Obama.

We screwed up. While the Demon Rats were busy grooming pound puppies to be top dog, we were busy doing... Hell, I don't know what we were doing for those 14 years. We didn't produce a single viable presidential candidate in all that time.

Cantor, Rubio, West, Ryan, and others will all be good presidential material, but NOT by 2012.

I'm not the official ABC Cheerleader for Mitt Romney, a man who I can barely tolerate the thought of being president, but no other candidate comes close.

Maybe General Petraeus or some other dark horse candidate is the answer. Maybe it's that ambasador guy Obama keeps talking about. Maybe we recruit Joe Manchin.

We've got to start getting creative because time is running out and every candidate in the ring is a likely loser. The problem with Palin and Bachman and the others is that their reach exceeds their grasp. They don't realize they're egomaniacs with no talent for the job. They are as inexperienced as Obama, half as articulate, and less than half politically organized. There's not a single leader or statesman among them.

We need a philosopher king.

Just bookmark this comment and read it on election day in 2012. I warned you about Angle and O'Donnell.

A president gets, at most, 8 years in office and has two houses of Congress as a check on his power. Obama's agenda is dead. He has only one weapon left - appointment power.

When Obama makes his next Supreme Court pick, you'll rue the day. And it doesn't matter if he replaces a conservative or a liberal. Either way he extends the life of a liberal vote for another TWENTY SIX YEARS!

If Bachmann does get in Palin would be going against her by joining her. So this is an interesting turn of events.

I don't think she has much of shot. She is very polarizing and will have a hard time pulling in the indies. Her gaffes don't help her much either.

BTW SB West said on last weekend he wouldn't run.

I do believe that Bachmann will get the TEA Party message out, even if she may not win the nomination or the general.

I daydream of a Palin/ Cain ticket with West as Sec of Defense, Bachmann as Speaker and DeMint as Senate Majority leader.

West will make an excellent president someday, but not in 2012. If he were to run, he would have to run as a half term House Rep. That would give him less experience in government than Obama ran with. It would be an extremely hard sell to the public at large.

My hope is that West will win a second term then run for the Senate or run as gov of Florida. After that go for the White House.

Don't fall too far into the ABO crowd. A RINO Republicans would be ever bit the disaster as an Obama second term.

Nick, Nick, Nick ye of such little faith. Stop eating up all this early polling. Politics moves at the speed of light. What is true today will not be true tomorrow.

Obama is very beatable. He has never faced a true hard hitting opponent (John McCain don't make me laugh) and his record thus far is lacking.

In order to beat Obama all we need is a true hard nose fiscal conservative who can stay on message and withstand the left wing onslaught.

Just remember, back to 2007 when everyone thought that Hillary was going to cakewalk into the White House. Who would have thought that our choice would have been Obama and McCain? Let the primaries work their way and then we can put our game faces on. Until then do your homework and study the actual candidates emerging.

I don't think Palin would be going against Bachmann, after all Bachmann never cashed in her check from SarahPAC (and now we know why).

If the two of them are in the race they will eat at each others votes (unless one can clearly distinguish themselves).

I don't know if Bahcmann is ready for the keg lights of a presidential run. She will have to tighten her act quickly. Otherwise the left will Palinizer her before she has a chance.

Well, whoever it is in 2012, if they aren't a Constitution conservative with a diamond hard backbone and thick skin....I worry that there will be anything recognizable as the USA left by 2016.
I am saddened and appalled at having to say that about my own country. I am infuriated Way more than I am scared or frightened.

I didn't know West had stated recently that he isn't running in 2012.

Herman Cain and Paul Ryan.

I'm not sure that I agree with your comment about being a governor first. That said, I don't know if Bachmann can win, but I like her better than ANY Democrat, and better than probably any of the country-club Republicans.

(I'd be interested in your thoughts about Paul Ryan as a potential candidate.)

Thats is the exact recipe that will be needed to defeat Obama and deal with Congress once elected. Anything less and we will have a second term of Obama.

I think Cain and anyone would be an excellent choice.

I think chief executive experience will be paramount for any GOP candidate. The nation is already in shambles and we still have two more years to go. The next president will have his or her hands full. Learning how to govern an entire nation should not be one of problems.

Furthermore, legislating is completely different from governing. An excellent legislator could end up being pretty bad at governing even with solid conservative principles.

Therefore it would be far better to pick someone who has experience running a state or large corporation.

That being said, I can only see Paul Ryan as maybe a VP pick where he can learn governing from the second chair. I would perfer to see him as an economic adviser or heading up the Office of Management and Budget.

I like Bachmann a lot but--like you--I'm a little nervous about putting someone else into the White House without executive experience.

At this point I'm backing Cain. While he's never held elected office, he's got plenty of experience being in the hot seat as a CEO. He knows what it's like to have all the praise (or blame) fall squarely on his own shoulders...and he proven he can handle it.

Personally, I think Bachmann could make a great V.P. or--even better--the next governor of Minnesota!
