Losing! Charlie Sheen bombs in Detroit

Entertainment Weekly: First the U.S. automaker recession, and now this. Charlie Sheen unleashed his Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour on the Motor City on Saturday night before a crowd that greeted the actor with an adoring standing ovation and concluded with booing and walk-outs. The padded and disjointed show was a hodgepodge of video clips and Sheen-isms that felt hastily assembled and misjudged the patience of even the hardest of hardcore fans. [...]
I know this isn't politics, but some things are just so out there you have to say a little something-something.

I caught Charlie Sheen's wacko interviews and even peeped some of his crazy online antics. For me it was like watching one of those old Coney Island freak shows. That being said, I cannot imagine wasting any of my hard earned money to see an entire show of that stuff. What were these people expecting, coherent stand up comedy?

One of the big underpinnings behind Sheen being entertaining is the fact that the man was having a meltdown. For whatever reason, we all love to watch those who reached the top have a spectacular crash to the bottom. Putting on a show and taking it on the road, isn't exactly crashing to the bottom. To make matters worse, it appears Sheen just did not have enough material for a show.

Hopefully this bomb will speed the end of the Sheen fad.

Good bye treadmill, hello Hooters!

My Fox Boston: (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Guys, listen up. A study says it is actually healthy to stare at a woman's breasts.
Five-hundred men participated in the German study. Half were told to refrain from looking at breasts for five years, the other half were told to ogle them daily.
The study found the men who stared at breasts more often showed lower rates of heart problems, a lower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure.
The authors of the study recommend that men stare at breasts for 10 minutes a day.

I just canceled my gym membership. Hey, in these hard economic times a brother has to do what a brother has to do.

Note to my female readership: please don't consider this post a source of cheap and easy blog hits. Instead, think of this as a way to improve the health of ABC's male readership. You do want the guys fit and healthy to vote come  November 2012, right?

Not funny: The Daily Show tortures a camel

The Weekly Standard: No joke: The Daily Show brought a camel to the protests in Madison the other day, presumably to help make fun of the Cairo/Madison comparisons. As this video shows, the gag didn't turn out so well:
Who knew that an animal indigenous to the Middle East couldn't walk on snow and ice in the Midwest? Local firefighters eventually rescued the camel. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Daily Show didn't use any footage of the camel in its Tuesday night broadcast.
Update: If I'm not mistaken, it appears that Daily Show correspondent John Oliver walks in front of the camera at one point and urges the man shooting the video to turn it off. Censorship!

I am not one of those animal rights type, but this was a little difficult to watch.  Especially when the camel got it leg stuck in the fence.  Not cool.  This video proves Jon Stewart's point, Egypt and Wisconsin aren't alike in any &%$@ way. Now can he please stop torturing animals to prove the point?

Video: Black Mamas don't play

Booker Rising [via: Huffington Post]: He had to work a different corner each day last week (hopefully this is being followed up with hands-on instruction since she has significant responsibility for why his grades are bad in the first place). From the Huffington Post (hat tip: TheRoot.com): "Ronda Holder is forcing her 15-year-old son, James Mond III, to stand on a street corner with a sign around his neck that says: 'I did four questions on my FCAT [Florida aptitude test] and said I wasn't going to do it...GPA 1.22...honk if I need education.' Holder says her son will appreciate it some day."
More: "Holder said she wants other parents and kids to pay attention. So far, it's working; she says one man honked all the way around the corner."
Home girl looks like she will give Tiger Mom Amy Chua a good run for her money.

This video reminds me why I was such a well behaved student in school. My mother, Queen of The Follow Up, always followed through on any threat she made. So when she told my siblings and I that if she ever got a call from our school that we were acting up, she would come down there and whip us right in front of the class, we knew better than to risk it.

Both my parents were as serious as a heart attack when it came to our education.  They sometimes let us slide on little things like chores, curfew or fashions, but when it came to school and grades, my parents did not give an inch.  At the time, they seemed like evil task masters, but today I don't think I can thank them enough for their persistence.

Teacher suspended for blogging about her students

ABC News: Teacher Natalie Munroe makes no excuses for writing blog posts about her students which include statements like, "A complete and utter jerk in all ways," "although academically okay your child has no other redeeming qualities," "I hear the trash company is hiring," and "There's no other way to say this, I hate your kid."
"I don't think I did anything wrong," Munroe, a teacher at Central Bucks East High School in Doylestown, Pa., told ABC News.
The 30-year-old teacher used the name "Natalie M" and never identified the name of the school in the posts that also lashed out against other teachers and administrators. But once word got out it was her, the school suspended Munroe with pay. [MORE]

Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about.  This teacher did not name her school or the students she was talking about.  Unfortunately, she did not do a very good job at hiding her identity, but so what?
I think some of today's children and parents could stand a health dose of truth.  In our hyper self esteem driven education system, it might just be a good idea to let some parents know early on that they are raising assholes!
What are your thoughts on this?  Parents, give me your thoughts.  Any teachers out there, let me hear from you too.

Megyn Kelly’s hot GQ photos

Ok, it is Saturday and ABC needs some hits.
Mediabistro: TVNewser learns that “America Live” anchor Megyn Kelly is in the 2010 GQMen of the Year issue, which hit newsstands this week. Kelly is the only tvnewser to be selected for the 2010 media personality.
Last year, the only tvnewser in the issue was “The Daily Show”’s Olivia Munn. Remember when you look at Kelly (in GQ, right), she recently announced that she was expecting her second child this April.
The magazine says about the anchor:
“Abhorred by the left, adored by the right, frequently pinata’d by The Daily Show, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has become the very blonde face—and legs—of the network. And she’s okay with that.” [MORE]
On a serious note, I have to admit conservative women seem so much freer than their liberal counterparts.  I say this because so many liberal women still struggle with the angst between being feminine and being taken serious.  Conservative women don’t seem to worry about that problem.  They embrace their felinity and go about business as usual.
I cannot imagine a liberal news personality feeling comfortable about a photo shoot like Megyn Kelly’s. I think Megyn shows a certain level of confidence doing something like this that her liberal counterparts could never muster.

Segway owner Jimi Heselden dies in Segway accident

This is currently the top story on Memeorandum, file it under “ironic”.
UK Daily Mail: Jimi Heselden, the multi-millionaire owner of the Segway company, died in a freak accident when he rode one of the high-tech two-wheel machines off a cliff and into a river
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said today: 'Police were called at 11.40am yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above.
'A Segway-style vehicle was recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
'At this time we do not believe the death to be suspicious.'
Invesitgators are probing whether there was a fault with his particular machine or it was driver error.
What a very sad way to go, indeed.  I remember the great fanfare when the Segway was being launched.  We were told they would revolutionize transportation.  To date, I think I may have seen less than 10 in real life.

There is a fellow in my neighborhood who tears around on one at breakneck speed, I think I am going to print this article and hand it to him the next time he goes buzzing by.

E.T. gets an ambassador: U.N. to appoint Earth contact for aliens

It looks like the U.N. has taken steps to answer that age old request; “Take me to your leader”.
News.com.au: Mazlan Othman, the head of the UN's little-known Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa), is to describe her potential new role next week at a scientific conference at the Royal Society’s Kavli conference centre in Buckinghamshire.
She is scheduled to tell delegates that the recent discovery of hundreds of planets around other stars has made the detection of extraterrestrial life more likely than ever before - and that means the UN must be ready to coordinate humanity’s response to any “first contact”.
Professor Richard Crowther, an expert in space law and governance at the UK Space Agency and who leads British delegations to the UN on such matters, said: “Othman is absolutely the nearest thing we have to a ‘take me to your leader’ person.”
Can you imagine the Earth’s first contact with an alien race being routed through the dysfunctional U.N.? Sweet Jesus, after five minutes of hearing the U.N.'s blather about world peace and global warming, the aliens will conclude the Earth is ripe for the plucking!

Thanks, but no thanks U.N., America will take its chances (and those are some big chances) with Obama. Hopefully, no intelligent extraterrestrial life will US visit until after 2012.

UPDATED: How to quit your job with style: Say it with pictures!

As a photographer, I cannot help but love how this young lady dropkicked her stinky boss with pictures!  This is the good old fashion American Spirit at its finest. The entertainment industry should snap her up pronto!
The Chive: We received the following photos last night from a person who works with this girl. Her name is Jenny (not confirmed) - we're working our contact for Jenny's last name. Yesterday morning, Jenny quit her job with a (flash)bang by emailing these photos to the entire office, about 20 employees we're told. Awesome doesn't begin to describe this office heroine. Check back as we will be updating if we get more details.

UPDATE: WE have made contact with Jenny and will be posting a follow-up story tomorrow morning with more information.

UPDATE: Hoax :-(

It really pays to do your homework on the net.  It turns out old Jenny isn't real (boo hoo).
Left Coast Rebel:The story of 'Jenny the dry board job quitter' is certainly genius. Most importantly, is the story real? I hate to (potentially) burst your bubble:
(Media Memo) Today, our favorite job quitter is “Jenny” — “a girl” who left her job by sending co-workers a series of photos where she uses a whiteboard to insult her boss and expose his fondness for Farmville.
We know that the Steve Slater story is true. But what about Jenny’s story?
Almost certainly made up.
The story showed up this morning on theChive.com, a dude-centric site run by brothers John and Leo Resig, who own a series of photo/humor sites. Before that, the Resigs ran a site called Derober, which features doctored photos of celebrities in their underwear.
And Derober’s moment in the spotlight came back in December 2007, when it made up a story about Donald Trump leaving a $10,000 tip on a $82.27 bill. The story was convincing enough to fool Fox News and the New York Post (both of which are owned by News Corp., which also owns this site).
Brothers John and Leo Resig have fooled millions with previous gags so the likelihood of 'dry chalkboard job-quitting Jenny's' story being valid is slim. It's still funny though!
Maybe Americans will be blessed beyond our wildest dreams by Barack Obama quitting the job he hates anyway, via a dry erase board.

Video: Seattle Cop Punches Woman In The Face

Normally I don’t comment on local incidents like this, but this video is just too much. Can you believe all of this started because of a jaywalking offense?

KOMO News: According to Seattle police, the incident began when an officer spotted a man jaywalking in the 3100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way S. at approximately 3:10 p.m. The man was some 15 feet away from a pedestrian overpass, police said.
The officer was talking to the man when he saw four young women jaywalk across the same street at the same spot. The officer asked the women to step over to his patrol car, but the women were being "verbally antagonistic toward the officer," according to officials.
One of the women, later identified as a 19 year old, began to walk away from the scene despite the officer's instructions, prompting the officer to walk over to her and escort her back to his patrol car.
The girl then "began to tense up her arm, and pull away from the officer while yelling at him," investigators said. The officer told the girl to place her hands on his patrol car, but she refused. When the officer tried to grab hold of her, "she pulled away and twisted, breaking free of the officer's grip several times," the blotter report said.
When the officer tried to handcuff the girl, another girl, this one 17 years old, intervened and placed her hands on the officer's arm, "causing the officer to believe she was attempting to physically affect the first subject's escape," police said.
The officer pushed back the second girl, but the girl came back at him. The officer then punched her, police said. [MORE]
First, I have to ask is catching jaywalkers really that big a deal?  I know it is dangerous and can cause some very serious accidents, but I never considered it a noticeable offence.  Maybe it is because I grew up in NYC where jaywalking is almost a necessity.

Now regarding the two girls, what the hell were they thinking? They took a simple situation where at worst all they would have gotten was a ticket and turned it into a nightmare. Did they think they could just walk away from the cop after he pulled them over? Did they think they could get into a struggle with him and somehow have a happy ending?  Regarding the girl who got decked, sorry she was asking for it.  You just can’t shove and tussle with the police like they were one of your peers.

Regarding the cop, he should have called for back up the second the second the two girls showed signs they were not going to listen to his commands. It should have been a tip off that he was going to have to deal with the both of them rather than just one.

What the hell is up with the crowd? Did none of these people think to help calm the girls down? Everyone is so busy capturing the YouTube moment; no one thought to tell the girls they were making things worse for themselves. Perhaps if a few people shouted, “Calm down, or you will be arrested” reality might have sunk in for these girls.

Finally, expect race to fuel this story big time. A white cop punching a black woman is no doubt one of the main reasons why this video went viral in the first place. If everyone involved were all the same color, I don’t think this video would have half the impact. Sad, but true.

No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service and No Gay Dogs Too!

I see an opportunity for PETA and ACT UP to combine forces to fight canine homophobia!
NineMSN: An Adelaide restaurant that refused a blind man entry because a waiter thought his guide dog was "gay" has been ordered to apologise and pay compensation.
Ian Jolly was told he could not take guide dog Nudge into the Thai Spice last May because a member of staff objected, The Sunday Mail reported.
The restaurant's owners said a misunderstanding had arisen between Jolly's female companion and a waiter who understood the woman "to be saying she wanted to bring a gay dog into the restaurant".
"The staff genuinely believed that Nudge was an ordinary pet dog which had been desexed to become a gay dog," the owners said in a statement to South Australia's Equal Opportunity Tribunal.
The tribunal on Friday ordered the restaurant to pay Jolly $1500 and offer him a written apology for discriminating against him on the grounds of disability.
The restaurant, which displays a "guide dogs welcome" sign, refused to comment to the newspaper and was unavailable to respond on Sunday.
Jolly told the Sunday Mail he was happy with the result.
"I just want to be like everybody else and be able to go out for dinner, to be left alone and just enjoy a meal," he said.

Girl Scout Cookie Recall?

Say it ain’t so!
AOL News: On Thursday, the Girl Scouts of America issued a recall of thousands of Lemon Chalet Creme cookies after the organization received complaints from customers. The manufacturer, Little Brownie Bakers, said that a breakdown of oils used in the product has resulted in an off-putting taste and smell.
In a news release, Betsy Gladish, a spokeswoman for the Scouts, said the cookies were not a health hazard.
"The cookies are still edible but are not recommended for consumption as they are not up to our quality standards," Little Brownie Bakers said in a statement. The company, which is based in Louisville, Ky., said that customers who purchased the lemon cookies can call 1-800-962-1718 for information on how to obtain a refund.

They must have forgotten to add the crack! I don’t know what is in those Girl Scout cookies but damn they sure are addictive. Don’t let me near a box of Samoa’s, because I will polish them off in five seconds flat!

Video: Nodar Kumaritashvili’s fatal crash at the Olympics

Nodar Kumaritashvili was the Georgian luger who was killed at before the official start of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Kumaritashvili lost control of his sled and flew into a metal post; he died shortly after.

Fox News would not show the actual accident.  If you think the video will bother you, please skip this post.

Political Horoscopes

Here is a fun website I ran across recently. UK astrologist Archie Dunlop has done horoscopes for some US political figures, he as done astrological charts for Scott Brown, Sarah Palin and even Obama.

So for those of you into politics and astrology you can now have your cake and eat it too.

A shameless use of Google to raise my traffic

As many of you readers know, Clifton B. has Sitemeter Peeping Disorder. I constantly check the traffic of my site to see how many hits I am getting and where they are coming from. Being new to the blogosphere, this is my first year encountering the effects of holiday traffic. Good grief as of Thursday morning my traffic has slowed to a crawl. Holiday traffic sucks! I am off a good 200 hits per day.

So in order for me to maintain my sanity and my hit average, I am going to let you all in on a little secret. Google can bring traffic right to your door. By linking to popular search terms found on Google Trends, you can get people clicking on your blog.

Tonight a brief look at Google Trends finds that people are really looking for information on the University of Florida [Florida Gators], head football coach Urban Meyer.  Urban Meyer held a press conference to announce that he is stepping down because of health issues. Meyer is said to suffers from a heart valve muscle defect.

Now by linking all these terms for this very popular story, I should get a boost of traffic. Mind you, even though ABC is a political blog, you would be surprised at how many people not searching for politics see the title "Another Black Conservative" under their search term and click out of curiosity.

Some find that they share the same political point of view, others not so much. However, in the end we both gain something. I get much needed hits and they get an example of black conservative thought.

Yeah, I know it is a shameless thing to do, but damn, holiday traffic really sucks!

Twitter hacked by Iranian Cyber Army

Yesterday was not a good day for technology. We had Predator Drones being hacked by insurgents, BlackBerry service was interrupted and around 10PM Twitter was hacked. A protest group by the name of the Iranian Cyber Army hacked into Twitter and replaced the homepage with the image above [click image above for larger view]

The message at the bottom once translated, reads:
"U.S.A. Think they are controlling and managing Internet by their access, but they don't. We control and manage Internet by our power, so do not try to stimulation Iranian peoples to... NOW WHICH COUNTRY IN EMBARGO LIST? IRAN? USA? WE PUSH THEM IN EMBARGO LIST ;) Take Care."

Drunk 4 year old plays Grinch in drag

Four year old Hayden Wright, got drunk, escaped his house, stole his neighbor's Christmas presents and then roamed the streets in a brown dress from one of the stolen gifts. You just cannot make up stuff like this.  As you watch the video below, listen to what the mother says about how the little boy wants to be like his father the jailbird.

Question: Why does this four year old boy even know that his father is in jail? What happened to the good old days when adults committed lies of omission to spare young minds ugly truths?

Man wins lottery and leaves wife flat broke

I noticed this story while checking Google Trends and Saberpoint today. I know this isn’t a political story, so we will just file it under Rule 5.

A South Florida woman whose husband won the lottery and then left her was set to be evicted from her home Tuesday evening. Donna Campbell was given until Tuesday to pack up and leave the Miramar home she once shared with her husband, Arnim Ramdass.
“I have asked myself over and over what I did to deserve this, to deserve this ending,” Campbell said.
Ramdass and several other airline mechanics won $19 million in a June 2007 lottery jackpot. Instead of sharing the wealth, Campbell said her husband did not tell her about his win and eventually left her. MORE
Talk about cold. While I could understand a husband leaving a not so stellar wife after winning the lottery, I don’t see why he had to be so cold and leave her flat broke without a word. That is just cruel. At the very least pay off the mortgage for her, so she doesn’t become a burden of the state. He could have also followed Saberpoint’s advice and enjoyed a lifetime of the toilet seat in the upright position.
