Mitt Romney defends RomneyCare on the Factor

Ewww, this is messy. Bill O’Reilly comes at Romney pretty hard on RomneyCare and Mitt’s responses make him sound a wee bit slippery and oh so 2008. If Romney thinks admitting that the Feds pick up half the tab for RomnyCare and it doesn’t lower cost, is somehow a winning argument, then he is in for one hell of a shocker.

I don’t see how Romney will be able to defend these points from the attacks that will come from other GOP nominees. Both Palin and Huckabee know how to deliver blunt and brutal attacks with a smile. The two of them can easily punch holes in Romney’s answers with clever little sound bites.

Yesterday, commenter Lisa asked why Romney does just admit that RomneyCare was a mistake.

Maybe this is my naiveté, but why can't Romney just come out and admit maybe it wasn't the best move and that if he were to do it over again (ahem, as president) that he would do things differently? I know politicians never do this but maybe somebody should. I really liked Romney but his Romneycare issue is a killer for me…
Lisa, methinks you had better mail your suggestion to Mitt.

aghhhh, this just kills me, because there is no doubt in my mind that romney would do the best job and have our best interest at heart. he'd be the smartest man we've had in office for a long time....but this healthcare thing is a huge problem- and we must win, so it's going to have to be somebody else.
he can't just admit it was a mistake because he already has that "flip-flop" brand (abortion)following him, as well.
there are others who could beat barack- though, they would still not be as good of a choice as my mitt---maybe they could put mitt in on the cabinet or as vp....i just don't know-

I agree. I think this is a killer for Mitt Romney. This destroys his 2012 ambitions.

I do however agree with him, on a theoretical level, that there is a huge difference between the states solving these issues or the federal government.

Clifton, This is why Romney should NOT run. He cannot possibly have a good defense to these points.

If the Left does not hit him with hypocrisy claims in the case of his admission of making a mistake, then they will embrace him on his defense of it and once again pick the Republican candidate thus ensuring Obamas re-election.

That's only ONE of the reasons he shouldn't run.
I hope we're smart enough to find someone else to carry the Conservative flag come 2012...

Yup, I think I may have to send old Mitt an email... it will be interesting to see how this shakes out for 2012.

Don't believe him. He's a snake oil salesman if ever there was one--he could have given lessons to BO back in the day, he's got that same smarmy ickiness going on, that same self-satisfied smirk. *shudder*

He's seriously screwed up Mass (well, to be fair, he just sort of set up the disastrous healthcare thing, Patrick went insane with spending and taxing and Mass is near hell now. Really. I can see it from my window.). Romney is awful. I hope and pray and do little dances in the moonlight that he won't get the 2012 rep nom. (okay, just kidding about the little dances in the moonlight).
