Al Sharpton to protest in Arizona

Where ever race and politics intersect, you are sure to find Al Sharpton. With the recent passage of Arizona’s new immigration law, Al Sharpton has decided to join forces with Lillian Rodriguez Lopez from the Hispanic Federation in New York City to commit civil disobedience in Arizona.
The Washington Post: NEW YORK -- The Rev. Al Sharpton says he's ready to travel to Arizona and march in the streets to protest the state's new immigration law.
Sharpton joined Lillian Rodriguez Lopez from the Hispanic Federation in New York City on Sunday to speak out against the law. They say activists are prepared to commit civil disobedience to fight it.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the bill Friday. It requires police to question people about their immigration status - including asking for identification - if they suspect someone is in the country illegally.
The law will take effect in late July or early August.
President Barack Obama has called the new law "misguided" and has instructed the Justice Department to examine it to see if it's legal.
On illegal immigration, Democrats are going to stir the racial pot big time. Without their filibuster proof majority in the Senate, getting amnesty passed this year will be difficult. The next best thing for the Democrats would be to create a very ugly racial ruckus over illegal immigration, in hopes to boost Hispanic support for the party.

When it comes to creating an ugly racial ruckus, who better than Al Sharpton?

Yes, Sharpton has to be in the middle of all this, because he sees an opportunity to advance his constant drumbeat of how racist all white people are. Being white, myself, I am way past being sick of it.

This law will allow police officers to do what they should be allowed to do in all states. Since the federal government won't do anything to enforce the laws on the books, enforce the border and protect the citizens of this country, individual states are going to have to pass laws like this one.

Hi Clifton B..... been reading your blog for sometime now but decided to get my feet wet and make a post.
Thanks for all you're doing here, I enjoy reading your thoughts as well as your other posters.
On to my comment about the Arizona Immigration Bill:

"They say activists are prepared to commit civil disobedience to fight it."

What a double standard!!!
If the Tea Party or a Conservative group were to say those words, then the MSM would be all over it. I'm appalled by the way Al and others in Congress can say whatever they want to say but the 'rest' of us (Conservatives) had better keep our mouths shut and our thoughts to ourselves.

Between Al and Obama they are having a field day inflamming this. And as usual the left wing in falling into their rioting ways.

I am a 59yr old American who happen to be Black. I believe Mr Sharpton could better serve his community if he would concentrate on JOBS!!!!!!. I think a march for JOBS!!!would be a good thing in the Black Community right about NOW. The Bush Administration as well as the Obama Administration as done nothing about the illegal coming across our borders. Az had no choice but to deal with it the best they could.

Sharpton's calling for civil disobedience. I guess that's a step-up from the uncivil disobedience the pro-illegal marches usually stir up.

Perhaps he should travel to Arizona and set up a meet with the leaders of the drug cartels.........surely, Reverend, you can make them see the error of their ways. Or........are you too busy seeing "white people"?

agree with boomer59-

But, I also disagree with the (although I have not read the law, I have heard a lot about it on the news) allowing the police more lee-way. I think this is dangerous. I have seen the police act less than honorably many times and a few times blatantly stereotyping and conducting illegal searches. I think this would give them more ground to stand on when they pull off something like that. I understand that there are many "good" police officers, but there is a lot of abuse already- I don't think they need more discretionary authority as I think they already have too much and the system can be very one-sided if you have a corrupt officer (very many of them are).

I really don't like what Sharpton does and how he foments racial animus, but I agree that this type of legislation will lead down a bad path. I always try to follow my gut and speak my thoughts before I pass them through my conservative filter. It helps create an unbiased opinion, and I don't think I'm off the mark on this one.

Al Sharpton is dead wrong on this issue. This is not a social justice fight. Comparing his actions to the civil rights movement of the 20th century is self-serving and assinine at best and definitely a morally reprehensible slap in the face to those who laid down their lives to fight for the equal treatment of all American citizens under the U.S. constitution. I'm a black guy from Chicago where violence, massive unemployment, corrupt government broken schools, economic isolation, etc. are all tearing at the fabric of families/communities (icluding mine). Other cities and town are experiencing simialr circumstances, yet big Al chooses THIS issue. I am in no way supporting this nonsense and hope he is quickly shut up by those in his inner circle, folks in his hood, or perhaps Arizonans who know what's best for their state.

you mentioned 1 very important thing that I completely forgot about-

The state is under siege, so to speak, and they are trying to manage a problem that the federal government has both created, and not adequately dealt with. Their state has a specific set of problems that they must deal with, and I agree with that- I'm also in the Chicago area so I'm aware that there are problems here that need attention (specifically, gun rights and crime-prevention). Is Sharpton from Chicago and should he deal with only Chicago specific issues? I would agree that the unemployment rate should be the chief issue, but they can't focus on that since it will expose the failure of the stimulus which benefits their end-game.

I think its ok to be concern that some police officers will take advantage of the law. However we are a nation of laws, this is how we have been able to exist, as a thriving society. We must protect our borders even when its not politically correct to do so. Don't condemn the good cops with the bad. Kick out the bad. I see racism as ugly. and should not be tolerated.

Frankly, you all are missing the real issue. Being a woman of color I have experienced racial injustice and racial discrimination my entire life. Enough to know that racial profiling is NEVER EVER okay! And now they think that they can just slip it into law?!?!? This is not about us supporting immigrants being illegal or supporting illegals crossing the border without the appropriate paperwork. Its about the millions of Mexican Americans who are citizens. Born and raised here just like you, who will now legally be profiled, apprehended, harassed, discriminated against, and automatically assumed to be illegal. That is not right and that is not civil! So thank you Rev. Al Sharpton for inflamming the true issue when so many others are blind, because if this law goes into effect, honestly, WHO IS NEXT?
That's the problem with white politicians. They think that if a law protect the rights of white Americans than it protects the rights of all Americans and that is not the case! As for President Obama I feel that by him not intervening he is condoning. President Obama we voted for you because you represented CHANGE so please don't be afraid to do just that!
