From Politico: Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
People who have covered the White House for years tell me that's an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.
A reporter can be seen in the YouTube video above calling the move "outrageous" and "ridiculous."
Wow our media is really nothing more than a bunch of neutered lapdogs. One police officer shoos the lot of them away with nothing more than the sound of his voice. It is hard to believe that these reporters abandon their Constitutional right with less fuss than a customer getting gypped at a store.
The problem is our media has long forgotten what their role is. So many of them believe they are supposed to be activists for the left rather than watchdogs for the entire public. Is it any wonder why corruption in Washington is off the chain?

Maybe those on the left will finally understand that tea party members are trying to bring back to center stage our constitutional way of governing and our rights. This will benefit them as well; they also have a right to assemble. And the media needs to return to their constitutionally granted position and not be quick to abdicate their rights and responsibilities. The day may come when they become the target and then who will tell their story.
Yes, they've certainly long forgotten their role, but this about not covering protests by the left. They have to keep up the illusion that the only people who don't agree with BO are racist Tea Partiers, and that's hard to do when the far left is handcuffing themselves to the White House gate. The media was probably HAPPY to go. Actually, they could have saved some taxpayer money and just put up a hand written sign saying "No press," and they'd have happily toddled off to dream up more RAAAAACIST Tea Party rhetoric.
Living in San Francisco, I am just amazed at how deathly quiet the local gay activist groups have become under Obama. Nary a peep while their rights are being stripped. Had 'W' the temerity to ban all press access this would be front page headlines, but all we hear from the MSM is ..... (quiet sounds of crickets chirping in the background)
I am a "minority" Asian American and I STRONGLY support the Tea Party. Of course the main stream media will use anything they know, race card, hatred tactics, against the Tea Party or ANYONE who dares to talk about "Constitution." That's how they herd most of minorities, but in heart, most minorities are very fiscal conservative, and work very very hard to raise their family. But there's a filter between "minorities" with conservative values, and that filter is the main stream media.
Unfortunately participating in any political event while in uniform is a court martial offense.
Anonymous (um, the second one), I know what you mean, for some reason minorities keep going to the dem party even though they share few (if any?) of the same values and interests. I'd add that in addition to being fiscally conservative a lot of minorities also have strong views about religion (whatever theirs is) and about family (not to be confused with "social issues" like abortion and gay marriage, though I guess that a lot of at least Latino/a voters don't like the latter or Cali would have it by now). I just can't figure out how we can reach out to them, let them know that we are on the same page and want opportunity for all. And that they've been lied to and played for decades about race, we are not racists, not by a loooooong shot.
Fuzzy,
2nd Anonymous here. I totally know what you mean. And I know why: I became a conservative by my OWN account after understanding how America [should] run.
My dad is a hard working Asian American and frankly he thinks the welfare system is MAD and crazy, his own words.
I spend many years thinking Rep party is evil, you know why? Bad PR. Most Reps became so big themselves they forgot what Conservative is. They don't even know how to talk Conservative anymore.
Which is why I support Tea Party. People today are so unfamiliar with Conservatism, many simply find Tea Party as "crazy." Low tax? OMG, how else do I get my milk if our tax money doesn't subsidized the corn industry? How else can my kid learn math if we don't offer 100K salary with benefits in New Jersey for a substitute teacher?
Sigh... Conservative needs a new PR firm, and Rep Party is so far doing a bad job. If Tea Party can stick with the important things, don't let neo-cons take over, we can revive Conservatism to be enjoyed by responsible, HARD WORKING, gun-toting, freedom-loving Americans.
@ 2nd Anonymous. So true! And so sad. Republicans lost their way, that's for sure. And that's why we booted their sorry big-spending, big-government butts out in 2006, but they do seem to "get it" now, and if we do our job as citizens, keeping their feet to the fire, we can have that America back again. I do believe in America, and I do believe we'll get it back.
It does NOT help that crazy Michael Steele is telling black people the republican party has nothing to offer them. That man! http://potluckbloggers.wordpress.com/2010/04/21/michael-steele-wrong-again/ But it does point the exact problem with PR that you talk about. Sigh squared. ;)
(btw, Clifton, you've got a gaggle of fans over at Potluck, see link, myself included)
