The One Nation Working Together Rally: The Left’s Attempt at a Tea Party

I have just started looking at all the news about the leftwing One Nation Working Together Rally.  The most noticeable news is the crowd size.  From the aerial photos, it is quite clear that the One Nation Rally failed to match Glenn Beck’s numbers.

Still for a predominately union organized event, they were able to bring a significant number of bodies to the mall (Even if they had to bus them in).

I think one of the reasons why the left has such a hard time bringing out crowds to match Tea Party strength, is because there really isn’t any over arching theme for the left.  Look at these two Reason TV videos below.

It seems like for every person there, there is some different reason for protest.  Is this what the left is all about?  Everyone chopped up into individual grievance groups (i.e. anti-war, gays, blacks, Latino, pro-choice, illegal immigration, socialism and the list goes on and on). Each group is only really concerned about their own little grievance and thus wont’ (unless organized) come out for someone else’s grievance. A perfect example of this is how minorities threw gays under the bus in California with Prop 8.

The Tea Parties by comparison have three simple themes (less spending, less taxes, more freedom) that work hand in hand. It is very easy to rally around these themes and under those themes you find Tea Partiers with sub-themes (immigration, abortion, defense of marriage, etc).  What was the over arching theme of the One Nation rally? As far as I can tell, it was; “we can throw a big rally too”!  That is hardly the kind of theme that makes you want to invest your personal time and money to attend.

The only thing I can see the One Nation rally accomplishing is to fool the left into thinking they have enthusiasm too.  Perhaps it might help bring out their numbers next month, but I would not count on it.  The right has been itching to vote for almost two years now. Pent up frustration like that cannot be replicated in a little over 30 days.

yes it was an interesting day. I have compare and contrast photos from Beck and One Nation. Quite a difference.

I really sometimes think that I would still like to be naive and not believe those people exist.

The reason why the left can't get anyone to rally to their causes is because they have only one cause: Divide and conquore. A house divided can't stand and their plan is working. . . among the left. They're so divided, they can't get enough people to rally because they're so badly divided. Obama was sworn to be a uniter, not a divider. He's been partically sucessful, he's divided the country the worse it's been since the Civil War, but is uniting conservative and patriotic people like they haven't been since Reagan. The question now is there enough united people to overcome the evil and preversion that the divided people have strained in the bond of this republic. November 2th will bring about the answer.

The left is still considering this a tremendous success. Have you seen the pictures of the mall after the rally was over? Totally trashed. I guess they wanted that trash left there for somebody to pick up and earn some money, since there are so many without jobs right now (including me, but that's another story).

Madmath1 is exactly right. And:

This is exactly right!

Themes were : We can throw a rally and we hate the Tea Party.

Every time someone at that rally said "grassroots" I laughed. Really? Standing there with your union shirt on saying you are part of a grassroots movement. Haa haaa haaaa haa.

Here is something you won't see in the MSM that was at the "one nation" rally: Proud Socialists!

Okay, just gotta point something out really quick:

"more freedom"
"immigration, abortion, defense of marriage"

Did you really type out both of those things within a sentence of each other without noticing that those who have been hailed as "Tea Party Candidates" are not for the "more freedom" option on any of those issues? They're actually very, very for the "Republican" option on those issues. And you guys wonder why the Left sees your "movement" as the same old Republicans in a new wrapper? It's because you're the same policies that got us into this recession with new rhetoric, rhetoric you clearly don't even seem to understand.

1. I'm as pro-individual freedom as you can get and yet I'm not for open borders. How can a typical statist be for forcing people to wear seatbelts but for totally "unregulated" borders.

2. Abortion can really go both ways. No matter how pro-choice you are (I am) you should easily be able to see the validity of the pro-life movement.

3. Regarding gay marriage I'm a 100% with you -- however, contrary to the narrative being spun the Tea Party is purposefully avoiding "social issues": the focus is on limiting government intrusion in the economic sphere. As government is limited and the powers that belong to individuals is reclaimed and no longer delegated to the government then the logic of gay marriage will be clear to all and will be accepted by the majority.
