Help Dede Scozzafava find a title for her memoir

Über Rino Dede Scozzafava is going to write a memoir about her adventures during the NY-23 race.

The Hill: New York state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava (R) is writing a memoir about last year's dramatic special election in the state's 23rd congressional district.

Although she was the Republican Party's nominee, Scozzafava was never embraced by conservatives. She eventually dropped out of the race and endorsed the Democrat, now-Rep. Bill Owens.

Many activists were behind Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman and blamed Scozzafava for his defeat.

Scozzafava told WRVO public radio she's begun assembling notes.

"I have been kind of putting pieces together, yes, just, I think, more so for me, just to kind of go back and recall different moments, and I had jotted down certain occasions and I've got a whole calendar of events, and I'm kind of thinking about it again," said Scozzafava.

She doesn't yet have a title for the book.

Doug Hoffman Unconcedes NY-23 Race

While on Glenn Beck’s radio show yesterday conservative candidate Doug Hoffman unconceded.

From The Hill: 

Hoffman appeared on conservative commentator Glenn Beck's radio show this afternoon. Beck asked the him if he would "unconcede."

"Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded," Hoffman said. Beck asked him again if he was "unconceding" and Hoffman replied, "If that’s possible, yes."

This all comes about because last week after a recanvasing of the district, Democrat bill Owen’s lead shrank from 5,335 votes to 3,026 votes with another 10,000 absentee ballots left to be counted.

On election night I thought Hoffman was a little too quick with the conceding.  This is New York after all. Election shenanigans are nothing new.  The Hill reports that  even with the uncounted ballots, Hoffman has little chance. Plus there is still that business of what to do about Bill Owens who was already sworn in. 

If by some chance Hoffman was to win, what is the procedure to remove Owens?  If that procedure is something that requires the Democrats to acquiesce in some manner, then forget about it.  They are completely tone deaf to the will of the people.

This woman knows the difference between a battle and a war. Yes, conservatives failed to get Hoffman elected (this time), but the war to get the Republican Party back on its conservative moorings has just started. We have much to do if we expect to go into 2010 with quality candidates who stand firm on principles of fiscal responsibility and common sense.

Updated: Hoffman and Christie Take The Lead

If Public Policy Polling is correct Doug Hoffman has taken a commanding lead in the NY-23 race against Bill Owens.

From Public Policy Polling: 

In a three way contest with Democrat Bill Owens and Republican Dede Scozzafava Hoffman leads with 51% to 34% for Owens and 13% for Scozzafava. In a head to head contest with Owens Hoffman holds a 54-38 advantage.

Hoffman is leading Scozzafava 71-15 among Republicans with 12% going to Owens. Among Democrats Owens gets 67% to 21% for Hoffman and 10% for Scozzafava. Hoffman leads Owens 52-30 with independents. MORE 

Public Policy Polling also shows Chris Christie inching ahead of Jon Corzine in the New Jersey Gubernatorial race.

Chris Christie leads Jon Corzine 47-41 in PPP's final poll of the New Jersey Governor's race, with Chris Daggett at 11%.

Corzine had pulled to within a point of Christie on our poll three weeks ago after trailing by as many as 14 points over the summer, but his momentum has stalled since then and Christie's built his lead back up to 4 points last week and now 6. MORE

Public Policy Polling caught something I noticed too at the Chris Christie rally I attended last Friday:

As is the case around the country this year enthusiasm is on the Republicans' side in New Jersey. 47% of Christie's supporters say they're 'very excited' about voting this fall to just 34% of Corzine's. The electorate is also likely to be more Republican leaning this year with likely voters reporting that they voted for Obama by a 54-43 margin in 2008, a spread narrower than the actual 57-42 result in the state.

It is the enthusiasm I believe that will make the difference for Christie tomorrow.  Republicans are in a pitchfork kind of mood and if they cannot get the little devils in Washington, they can take it out on Corzine.

Should these numbers hold, Obama and the Democrats are looking at a complete rebuke of all their policies. Look for ObamaCare to hit a brick wall.

In the see-saw New Jersey Governor's race, Republican challenger Christopher Christie has 42 percent to Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine's 40 points, with 12 percent for independent candidate Christopher Daggett, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Six percent remain undecided.

The Rise of Hoffman Unhinges The Left

Now that über RINO Dede Scozzafava has dropped out and come out, the left is now becoming unhinged by the rise of Doug Hoffman. Today we were treated to their mad ramblings.

First is Frank Rich from the New York Times. In a very bizarre piece titled “The G.O.P. Stalinists Invade Upstate New York”.  Throughout Rich’s intellectually dishonest diatribe, Rich tries to paint the conservative movement as a crazy cabal aligned against what he considers mainstream Republicans all the while using Stalinists tactics to achieve their ends.

Frank Rich, New York Times:

The more rightists who win G.O.P. primaries, the greater the Democrats’ prospects next year. But the electoral math is less interesting than the pathology of this movement. Its antecedent can be found in the early 1960s, when radical-right hysteria carried some of the same traits we’re seeing now: seething rage, fear of minorities, maniacal contempt for government, and a Freudian tendency to mimic the excesses of political foes. Writing in 1964 of that era’s equivalent to today’s tea party cells, the historian Richard Hofstadter observed that the John Birch Society’s “ruthless prosecution” of its own ideological war often mimicked the tactics of its Communist enemies.

The same could be said of Beck, Palin and their acolytes. Though they constantly liken the president to various totalitarian dictators, it is they who are re-enacting Stalinism in full purge mode. They drove out Arlen Specter, and now want to “melt Snowe” (as the blog Red State put it). The same Republicans who once deplored Democrats for refusing to let an anti-abortion dissident, Gov. Robert Casey of Pennsylvania, speak at the 1992 Clinton convention now routinely banish any dissenters in their own camp.

Next up we have White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, who had this to say about the NY-23 race to George Stephanopoulos:

 [Via: Politico] Asked what the New York development shows about the Republican Party leadership, Jarrett said: “I think it’s becoming more and more extreme, and more and more marginalized. Look at the number of people who actually say that they’re registered, consider themselves a Republican. And if that’s the direction they want to go, fine. What we’re going to do is what we’ve always done. And that is, we’re going to reach out.

“We’re going to try to include as many people to be a part of our governing process — being open, being transparent,” Jarrett continued. “And we’ll let the American people decide. And right now what you see is a great deal of momentum moving forward, for example, on health care. The American people want change. They don’t want the same old health-care system that’s not affordable, that doesn’t offer coverage to everybody, that keeps escalating in cost. And what we’ve seen from the Republicans is, really, a desire to have the status quo. And, George, that’s not acceptable anymore.”

See a pattern here? What both Rich and Jarrett are doing is trying to paint Hoffman and conservatives as extreme.  This to me reeks of a Plan B.  Since they pretty much know that Hoffman may defeat Owens on Tuesday, they have decided to Palinize him early and paint him as a right wing extremist.

This is a foolish tactic. Once again Gallup has shown that more Americans identify themselves as conservative. More independents are moving towards the conservative position on abortion, guns, unions, size of government and traditional values. At a mere 21% liberals are the ideological fringe in the country.  So, for both of these two barking moonbat liberals to pretend they represent mainstream American thought is laughable.

Mark my words; if Hoffman wins on Tuesday, the left will demonize him on Wednesday.  It is what they do best.

UPDATED: Scozzafava Quietly [Now Officially] Tells Supporters To Support Democrat Bill Owens

From the Watertown Daily Times : 

In her statement Saturday morning, the assemblywoman explained the reasons behind her decision: "It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so."

During the day Saturday, she began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens.

This is the candidate that the GOP leadership was anxious to shove down everyone’s throats?  It just goes to show, if it looks like a liberal, walks like a liberal and quacks like a liberal, then….

By the way Gateway Pundit is reporting that Scozzafava’s husband is also endorsing Democrat Bill Owens.

Note: The Watertown Daily Times originally endorsed Scozzafava too, it is now endorsing Owens.


UPDATE - Scozzafava Officially Throws Support To Bill Owens (NY-D)


Scozzafava is completely out of the closet now. She has officially thrown her support to Democrat Bill Owens. Here is Dede's official statement via the Watertown Daily Times:

I want to thank you for your support and friendship. Over the past 24 hours, I have had encouraging words sent to my family and me. Many of you have asked me whom you should support on Tuesday.

Since announcing the suspension of my campaign, I have thought long and hard about what is best for the people of this District, and how to answer your questions. This is not a decision that I have made lightly.

You know me, and throughout my career, I have been always been an independent voice for the people I represent. I have stood for our honest principles, and a truthful discussion of the issues, even when it cost me personally and politically. Since beginning my campaign, I have told you that this election is not about me; it's about the people of this District.

The GOP is looking really stupid for ever supporting this woman in the first place. Newt Gingrich is basically mud for sticking his neck out for her too. Perhaps now the GOP will take the advice to the conservative base when they hold their noses over these RINO candidates.

Sarah Palin, who was the first big name to endorse Hoffman, has her eye on the prize. She knows that a Hoffman win will put a damper on Obamacare.

Should Hoffman win on Tuesday, a clear message will be sent to the Blue Dogs. If Scozzafava in a blue state can fall, Blue Dogs in a Red State are toast. Vote for Obamacare and enjoy the unemployment line in 2010.  The question then becomes, what does Rahm, Nancy, Harry and Obama have up their sleeves to keep Blue Dogs from bolting. Time will tell.

Too Little Too Late, Newt Endorses Hoffman

Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.

"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

Sorry Newt but this is too little too late. Newt was obdurate and dug in with his flawed 10^th Amendment nonsense. Now that the writing is on the wall, Newt breezes though with agreement via twitter. Give me a break. The man has ruined any chances for him to be a leader in anything. From this point forward, RINO suspicions will plague Newt. The best he can hope for now is a second tier cabinet position in a Republican administration.

This RINO Is Toast! Dede Scozzafava Quits NY-23 Race

Über RINO Dede Scozzafava has quit the race for the NY-23 congressional seat.  She quit after the release of the Siena College poll this morning.  Stacy McCain is reporting that Scozzafava will give her support to Doug Hoffman.

The Siena College poll follows what the previous polls showed Owens with a one-point lead over Hoffman and Scozzafava behind by double digits.  What is not clear now is where will her supporters go. Were her supporters really liberals who did not like Owens or were they Republicans with party loyalty?

Whether Hoffman wins, loses or draws notice has been served to the GOP today. The conservative base has sent a clear message to the GOP, get back to your roots or else. This upset should boost Marco Rubio’s chances against mega RINO Charlie Crist in Florida.  Will the GOP heed that message?

A NY-23 Update: Steele Accepts Hoffman, Biden Stumps For Owens

The latest info from the very exciting NY-23 race comes from two stories in Politico.

First we have Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele saying that a Hoffman win is a GOP win.

From Politico: 

“You’ve got two Republicans running in that race. My upside is that one of them will likely win,” Steele said. “We want to be supporting the one that wins.”

“I don’t split the party into conservative or not,” he said. “I’m looking as the national chairman to walk out of there one way or the other with a win.”

Asked if he would support Hoffman in 2010 if the Conservative Party candidate won the special election and sought reelection, Steele responded: “Why wouldn’t I?”

“Is he a Republican?” Steele asked. “He’s the Conservative Party nominee, but he ran initially as a Republican.”

Oh so now he is Republican. Where was that thought as so many in the GOP leadership was just peachy with über RINO Scozzafava? Steele’s response for why he did not have anything to say about Scozzafava getting picked had this to say: 

“My responsibility was to support the choice of the state party. They made their choice,” Steele said, though he added that he had “no idea” why the Scozzafava won the nomination because he was “not involved.”

Referring to the numerous prominent Republicans who have bucked the party establishment and endorsed Hoffman, Steele pointed to his own responsibilities as party chairman.

“I don’t get to pick-and-choose like that,” Steele said. “They make their own personal and political choices.”

Ok so you cannot pick and choose, but as the National Committee Chairman, I think if you held your nose every time her name was mentioned, they would get the point.

Asked if a Hoffman win would be a referendum on the GOP Steele said: 

“Is it a referendum on the Republican Party? Yes, in terms of how we’ve healed and how we’ve turned the corner,” the RNC chairman said. “This could be the test to see if we are able to do that.” 

Not quite Mikey, the referendum would be that the base is sick and tired of the GOP slapping R on the end of the name of anyone with a pulse. Put out the word loud and clear, the people want principled candidates!

About Joe Biden stumping for the Democratic candidate Bill Owens, methinks I smell desperation. The way things are panning out; New Jersey is looking like the only possibility for the Democrats. After visiting a Chris Christie rally last night, I would put that on shaky grounds too,

Joe has had a few incidents of low turn out when he has headlined and considering he Bagdad Bob impersonations with touting the Stimulus, I would count Biden as credible support.

The White House is sending Vice President Joe Biden to upstate New York to campaign for Democrat Bill Owens in a last-minute push to help Democrats pick up the longtime Republican House seat.

The Biden rally will be taking place next Monday morning in Watertown.

“I’m honored to have the President and Vice President’s support," Owens said in a statement announcing the vice-presidential visit. "I am excited to welcome the Vice President to Watertown where we’ll discuss my plans to create jobs Upstate and my commitment to helping turn the page on the George Bush economic agenda.”

The Biden event comes the day before the special election, which has turned into a two-way contest between Owens and a third-party Conservative challenger, Doug Hoffman, who has captured the momentum in the race in the last several days.

Former NYS Governor George Pataki Endorses Doug Hoffman

Add another Republican to the growing list of endorsement for Doug Hoffman.  Today former New York State Governor George Pataki has endorsed Doug Hoffman for NY-23 congressional seat. 

What is surprising here is that according to Politico, Pataki is endorsing Hoffman despite several of his former staffers coming out for Scozzafava!

Several of Pataki's former staffers are playing key roles with Republican Dede Scozzafava's campaign, and he wouldn’t be endorsing against her unless the writing was on the wall that there was no chance she could pull out a victory.

NRCC Sings A Different Tune On Doug Hoffman

Now that the Daily Kos poll is out showing Hoffman only one point behind the Democrat Owens and Scozzafava dropping to last place, the NRCC is now sounding a welcoming note to conservative upstart Doug Hoffman.

On Thursday afternoon, Sessions appeared to tacitly acknowledge that Hoffman may represent the GOP’s best chance to keep the Republican-held seat from being picked up by a Democrat.

“I think it’s pretty clear that a person who would vote for John Boehner, support tax cuts, support growing our economy, and defeat Nancy Pelosi’s tax and spend agenda will be really welcome in our conference, and I think having a person who can win that district off that message would be really good for the Republican Party,” Sessions said. MORE

Therein lies the problem for the NRCC. “That message” as Pete Sessions puts it, is the message that the GOP should be putting forward regardless of where the race is held.  It is my believe that one of the very reasons why Chris Christie stands a very good chance of losing on Tuesday is because he has put forward a very weak conservative message against the huge tax and spend Corzine. Even now Christie is wasting time getting into a “fat fight”.

On Tuesady should Doug Hoffman pull out a win, there will be shockwaves sent though both the Democrat and Republican parties. Both parties would have been served notice that the electorate is more than willing to support third party candidates that have their heads screwed on right.

Romney Votes Present On NY-23

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Former Gov. Mitt Romney is resisting the temptation among potential 2012 candidates to jump into the contentious House race in upstate New York -- but he told reporters in Virginia today that his lack of endorsement is itself something of a statement.

“I have chosen not to endorse the Republican in the 23,” Romney, R-Mass., said while campaigning for GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom provided a few more details regarding Romney’s thinking: “Mitt Romney is a Republican and he tends to support the Republican candidate in races and when he can't because there are too many differences on the issues, he stays out of the race altogether and that's the course he's following in the New York special election. He doesn't plan to make any endorsement at all.” MORE

That has to be the lamest excuse I ever heard. Mitt Romney is clearly a GOP leadership darling so it is no wonder he won't come flat out against Scozzafava. By not picking either side, Mitt hopes to have his cake and eat it too. I don't think that is going to work. 

Mitt can use all the conservative street cred he can get. Since Mitt had to sit out much of the battle against ObamaCare, so as  not to remind people about RomneyCare he needs something that would put him back in the game and a Hoffman endorsement could do the trick.

Conservative Ad Touts Dede Scozzafava's "Progressive Credentials"

Politico is labeling this ad a political dirty trick.  I say it looks more like truth in advertising.

A brand-new organization calling itself Common Sense in America is up with a major television ad buy in the New York special election, praising Republican Dede Scozzafava as the “best choice for progressives.”

At first glance, the group’s ad looks like it’s an endorsement of Scozzafava. But it’s a dirty trick engineered by Hoffman supporters, looking to render her unacceptable to many Republican voters by detailing her liberal position on gay marriage, support of President Obama’s stimulus and connections to labor. 

The group Common Sense in America turns out to have ties to the Club For Growth which is now fully behind Doug Hoffman.

In tracking down information about Common Sense in America, it’s clear they don’t have the best intentions for Scozzafava in mind. The group, which was founded on October 23, is headed by Arkansas businessman Jackson Stephens, a board member of the Club for Growth. The Club for Growth was one of the first groups to endorse Hoffman.

Stephens donated the maximum $4,800 to Hoffman’s campaign, and is one of the Club for Growth’s leading donors. 

Calling the group’s phone number – listed on the advertisement – led me to a voice mail from Stephens, which directed all questions about Common Sense in America to Dan Blum, a communications consultant who is serving as a spokesman for the organization. According to FEC records, Blum worked for the Republican National Committee as a staffer as recently as this January.

"Common Sense In America, LLC was recently founded for the purpose of providing factual information about the positions taken by candidates for Congress," said Blum. 

"The purpose of this ad, produced independent of any other organization, is to give voters undisputed facts about candidate Dede Scozzafava’s positions. Ms. Scozzafava is clearly and indisputably on record supporting the Obama stimulus, card check, and gay marriage. These positions would make her an ideal candidate for progressive voters in New York’s 23rd congressional district."

Mr. Blum is right Dede would be the perfect candidate for progressives and they can have her. Go Hoffman!

Another Poll Puts Doug Hoffman In The Lead!

NY-23 Poll: Hoffman +5

For the second time in two days, a poll released by a conservative group finds Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman leading the Nov. 3 special election race for New York's 23rd District. Neighborhood Research polled the district for Minuteman PAC, the political arm of the Minuteman Movement, which has endorsed Hoffman and is airing ads on his behalf.

Hoffman leads Democrat Bill Owens by 5 points and GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava by 20 points.

The poll was taken Oct. 25-26 of 366 likely voters. The three candidates are vying to replace former congressman John McHugh (R-N.Y.), who was appointed by President Obama to be Secretary of the Army.

Club for Growth, a fiscally conservative group, released a poll yesterday showing Hoffman up 4 points. CfG has also endorsed Hoffman in the race. 

This is exciting news.  For the second day in a row polls are placing Hoffman ahead of both liberals.  Should Hoffman win this race, shockwaves will be sent to both parties. Democrats will know that their big government plans are thoroughly distasteful to the American public and Republicans will learn that they had better get back to their conservative roots or else.

CFG Poll: Hoffman Takes The Lead!

The Club For Growth has a new poll out that indicated that conservative Doug Hoffman is now in the lead.

From Club For Growth: 

The poll of 300 likely voters, conducted October 24-25, 2009, shows Conservative Doug Hoffman at 31.3%, Democrat Bill Owens at 27.0%, Republican Dede Scozzafava at 19.7%, and 22% undecided. The poll's margin of error is +/- 5.66%. No information was provided about any of the candidates prior to the ballot question. 

It should be noted that this isn’t the very best poll out there. The sample size is rather small and the margin of error is enormous.  Two more accurate polls are due out this week that may very well confirm Hoffman’s new lead and may give us an indication if Palin’s endorsement and Scozzafava’s screw ups played a role.

Should Hoffman now be in the lead, it will signify major trouble for the GOP who has been backing a ton of RINOs.  The conservative base is using it newfound activism to upset the old playbook of Quantity trumping Quality candidates. I would keep a close eye on Marco Rubio vs. Charlie Crist. That race is begging to be flipped.

Tea Party Moves Against GOP. So Where Is The Racism?

Tea party activists from across the nation are rallying around the House special election in upstate New York, viewing it as the first electoral test of the nascent conservative movement’s political muscle.

Organizers up and down the East Coast report that activists are making their way into the campaign offices ofConservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman, with the volunteers focusing their efforts in Oswego, Madison and Jefferson counties. While tea party organizers say the election is a unique opportunity to hold the Democratic and Republican parties to account, much of their energy is being directed against Dede Scozzafava, the GOP establishment-backed nominee whom they view as a squishy moderate who represents all that is wrong with the Republican Party.

Well, well, well,  the Tea Party movement is now venting its rage against a very WHITE GOP candidate. Does this not contradict the insane ramblings of the Raaaaacism Industrial Complex? Where is Jeanane Garofalo to say  "this is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up."?  Funny, I don't see any black men in the NY-23 race.  What about Jimmy Carter, where is he to say that the "overwhelming portion of opposition" is based on racism? So Jimmy, where is the overwhelming number of racists here?


Perhaps the answer to these questions is what it always has been, that the Tea Party protest isn't about racism, Democrats or Republicans, but is about bringing an out of control Federal government to heel. Perhaps the answer is also that members of the Raaaaacism Industrial Complex are all about making up charges of racism against the Tea Party movement for the sake of shielding Obama and the Democrats from the strong criticism they deserve.

Sarah Palin Endorses Doug Hoffman For NY-23

Sarah Palin gets it! In her endorsement of Doug Hoffman for NY-23, Sarah Palin is taking a firm stand on the side of true conservative principles.


Palin's quote of Ronald Reagan's timeless speech "A Time For Choosing" makes it clear that she has chosen to stand apart from the GOP leadership.  I have often said that Sarah Palin will play one or two roles in 2012.  Either she is running for the nomination or she is going to force the GOP back to the right.


For Doug Hoffman, Palin's endorsement could be just the thing to put him over the top, thus sending a final and clear message to the GOP leadership that change has come to the Republican party and RINO candidates simply will not do.


Without a single doubt the NY-23 race is turning out to be the most exciting and most important race of the year.
