Barbarism! Afghans kill 12 at UN compound over Florida Koran burning

The New York Times: MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan — Stirred up by three angry mullahs who urged them to avenge the burning of a Koran at a Florida church, thousands of protesters on Friday overran the compound of the United Nations in this northern Afghan city, killing at least 12 people, Afghan and United Nations officials said.
The dead included at least seven United Nations workers — four Nepalese guards and three Europeans from Romania, Sweden and Norway — according to United Nations officials in New York. One was a woman. Early reports, later denied by Afghan officials, said that at least two of the dead had been beheaded. Five Afghans were also killed. [...]
Unable to find Americans on whom to vent their anger, the mob turned instead on the next-best symbol of Western intrusion — the nearby United Nations headquarters. “Some of our colleagues were just hunted down,” said a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Kieran Dwyer, in confirming the attack. [MORE]
There is only one word to describe this and the word is barbarism! As expected some on the left are blaming that crazy pastor Terry Jones for provoking this.

Absolute nonsense!

Whatever you want to think about the crazy Koran burning pastor, in America he was well within his free speech rights doing what he did. There is no difference between his Koran burning sideshow and some hack artist making feces smeared pictures of the Virgin Mary. Both seek the limelight by shocking and offending.

What is different between Jones and the hack artist are the people they offended. For the hack artist, he only offended a bunch of passive Christians who only fume, fuss and boycott. Terry Jones on the other hand, offended a group that has long ago embraced a culture of death and intolerance, and they act out on both with alarming regularity.

Many in Western civilization want to put on their moral equivalence glasses and see Islam as no better or worse than Christianity or Judaism. This my friends is nothing but wishful thinking taken to the nth degree. Pick up a newspaper on almost any given day and somewhere in the world Muslims are killing each other or someone they disagree with, all in the name of Islam. Even their women and children have embraced a culture of death.

When I think of all the national treasure we spend to give the Afghans a shot at freedom and then read about these killings, I cannot help but feel we have completely wasted efforts. How can true democracy with and passion for individual freedom ever take hold in a place like that? Methinks not.

That's pretty bad.

Your blog is right on. Even in this country, Muslim clerics call for the death of those who don't agree with them, but people who call for an investigation into their activities are criticized.

I am pleased to see that you spoke up, I hope more people will.

oh wow culture of death and violence? come from an american, sure, not hard to believe.
school masaccres, family sex, 9/11 set ups, wars, torture programs, rape. psychopaths and what not.

i hope next time afghanis kill some american bastards too and teach them a lesson.
so when 5 non muslims die, it becomes a headline, but americans torturing and killing muslims everywhere, doesnt become a headline or anyone close to being an important news.
Ignorance and retardnesss,anyone?

Should I take that as a compliment???

Extremely bad.

Thank you. We should all speak up. There simply is no sane justification for murdering people over a religious insult. Making excuses for it is to excuse evil.

Here we go again with the moral equivalence. Dude, you can bark at the moon all day long, but killing people over a burnt book is inexcusable.

Sorry about the troll, batch approvals off my blackberry can get a little sloppy.

And yet we have people here and in other countries informing us we should not and will not be allowed to exercise our constitutional freedoms under the guise of hate speech, intolerance or whatever one wants to call it! Burn a Koran, you will be charged with a hate crime. Burn the bible, that’s fine! Criticize Mohamed, you are a hater. Piss Jesus? That’s art!

Why isn’t everyone in this country outraged? LOL! I’m assuming one can imagine the word outraged doesn’t quite fit what I feel about this nonsense !

One doesn’t have to agree with the Terry Jones (the man is just another self-centered religious bigot) of the world but we sure as hell have to defend his right to do as he did. If I’m supposed to turn the other cheek when some commie bastard burns my flag, I sure as hell need to do the same in this and any other case! As much as I hate to admit it, he is correct on one thing. The idiocy we are now seeing over there does prove one of his points. The intolerance of these religious fanatics is beyond reason.

One other thing here as long as I’m on my soapbox. It is high time the people of this country stand up for their ideals. If I want to draw a satiric cartoon of Mohamed with his virgin harems, that is my right in this country. Yet, we have a rabid element starting with our President that wants to take that and other sacred rights away from us! We have a press who is afraid to offend and as such will not publish the truth about so many things. Personally, I don’t care who worships what! But I sure as hell care when one infringes upon another, especially with violence
