Hungry for health care

THOUSAND OAKS -- A 65-year-old man had his finger bitten off Wednesday evening at a health care rally in Thousand Oaks, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's investigators were called to Hillcrest and Lynn Road at 7:26 p.m.

About 100 protesters sponsored by MoveOn.org were having a rally supporting health care reform. A group of anti-health care reform protesters formed across the street.

A witness from the scene says a man was walking through the anti-reform group to get to the pro-reform side when he got into an altercation with the 65-year-old, who opposes health care reform.

The 65-year-old was apparently aggressive and hit the other man, who then retaliated by biting off his attacker's pinky, according to Karoli from DrumsnWhistles.

The man took his finger and walked to Los Robles hospital for treatment.

Neither man has been identified.

Sheriff's officials are investigating the incident.

The left really are hungry for change! Funny how these town halls and anti health care rallies were never violent until the astroturfing pro health care people showed up. Then all off a sudden you have union thugs beating people and MoveOn crazies biting people. I think we can all see who the real hate mongers are.

Perhaps that's a form of hippie self defense. Bite off an appendage.

Kind of scary. It makes you wonder about the mentality of the pro-reform group. Of course, we all knew that MoveOn.org were "hungry" to get conservatives. I wonder if they got fries with that?

Just sick.

It is absolutely ridiculous to blame this incident on "ideology." That's reaching for partisan straws that do not exist. Biting is wrong. So is violence (which is why I opposed the Iraq War). I am a liberal. Oh, I guess I'm the exception.

Anyway, you neglected to mention that the victim has MEDICARE -- WHICH IS A PUBLIC PLAN. I think it is ironic that conservatives oppose public health insurance, but the same man who walked his finger to the hospital was treated with taxpayer money through his government-run health plan.

Question: Was his care rationed due to his age? Was there a "death panel" who got in the way of his doctor's advice???

1. Re: Ideology
So far there have been no opposers of reform who have beaten anyone or bitten anyone. On the other side of the fence, well...

2. Re: Mentioning Medicare
Who cares what kind of insurance the man had. If he had none, they still would have helped him in the emergency room. The bigger story here is that someone LOST HIS PINKY because of having an opposing point of view. That should be very alarming in a nation with free speech. Don't loose sight of the forest for the trees.

3. The answer to your question
Medicare is already rationed in the sense that it is NOT accepted everywhere because the government reimburses at such a low rate. What if that guy happened to have been unlucky and the nearest hospital did not accept it? He would have been faced with two choices, waste time finding another one or pay out of pocket.

Here is my question to you. Do you really think it is possible for the government to add 40+ million more people and still maintain the same about of care that is being offered now all while lower costs at the same time? I will give you a hint. There is no nation that has government run health care where rationing does not take place.

My pinkie, my pinkie, my kingdom for a pinkie but I guess he has that terrible Medicare a “Single-payer health care insurance” what a hypocrite. Did the little pinkie cry "Wee-wee-wee!" all the way home? It real should have been his right pinky finger that would have been a better story. They are haters not debaters.

Normally I send comments like yours straight to the cyber crapper. However, I decided to publish yours so that all my readers can get a good look at what the compassion pimps on the left really look like.

The irony here folks is that Paul and his ilk run around crying for the poor and suffering without health care, yet face with someone who really suffered, they ridicule them! In other words, people like Paul pimp compassion, but they really don't FEEL compassion.

Thanks for posting and enjoy the exposure!
