OMG! There is a blizzard in hell tonight! Dems vote against funding ACORN housing!

Today GOP Senator Mike Johanns introduce his amendment to ban federal funds fund for ACORN that is in the current transportation and housing appropriations bill. The amendment passed 83-7!

Johanns cited the BigGovernment.com videos that are sweeping the web. Johanns had this to say:

“Until a full investigation is launched into ACORN, no taxpayer money should be used to fund its activities. A vote in favor of my amendment is a vote in favor of the taxpayer and a vote against the status quo.” (h/t Michelle Malkin)

Here are some of the Democrats who voted against ACORN:

From Michelle Malkin's blog:

5:42pm Eastern. Roll call vote still underway. Several Democrats have voted AYE, including Cardin, Carper, Inouye, Johnson (SD), Murray, Tester, Warner, Bingaman, Begich, Nelson (NE), Webb, Landrieu, Bayh, Conrad, Rockefeller, Dodd, Pryor, Hagan, Kohl, Feingold, Boxer, Nelson (FL), Brown, Harkin, Lincoln, Wyden, Baucus, Klobuchar, Kaufman, Shaheen, Lautenberg (switched from no to yes), Menendez, Stabenow, Leiberman, Levin, McCaskill, Reid, Feinstein, Udall, Bennet (CO) Merkley, Cantwell, Dorgan, Schumer

I am shocked by some of the hardcore lefties here. Boxer, Reid, Feinstein and Schumer! Dayum! Those videos were far more powerful than we ever imagined.

Here are the 7 who voted for ACORN:

Burris (D-IL)
Casey (D-PA)
Durbin (D-IL)
Gillibrand (D-NY)
Leahy (D-VT)
Sanders (I-VT)
Whitehouse (D-RI)

Is anyone surprised that Roland Burris voted for ACORN? You can take the politician out of the Chicago cesspool but you cannot take the Chicago cesspool out of the politician!

Finally we have the 9 Senators who did not vote:

Burr (R-NC)
Byrd (D-WV)
Coburn (R-OK)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hutchison (R-TX)
McCain (R-AZ)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Vitter (R-LA)

The number of Republican weasels who did not vote shocks me.

Graham is being his usual squishy self. South Caroline please do not send this wimp back the next time around, please!

Gregg did not surprise me. When everyone was cheering Gregg as a hero for changing his mind on the Obama administration, I warned that he was not to be counted on because of his willingness to leave the Senate at a crucial time.

Hutchinson thinks she can be governor of Texas with missing such a big vote? Rick Perry is going to beat her like a drum!

Old unreliable McCain is sitting this vote out too. Michelle Malkin details McCain’s ACORN coziness here.

Vitter is in LA and that is ACORN country so no surprise here either. I lope Louisiana doesn’t lift a finger to send Vitter back to the Senate!

Over all this is a great day. However, we all need to be on the look out. ACORN is part of a hydra. ACORN may lose the funding but will one of its many affiliates simply take its place? We have to keep a close eye on this and the Census.

What can we take from this? First, pressure works. So much pressure has been brought to ACORN with these videos, reporting on their voter fraud that the word is getting out that they are bad news. As a result, Democrats are forced to act or risked getting slimed too.

The fact that these Democrats are willing to bend to public pressure, tells me that ramming Health Care Reform though on Reconciliation, may not be as easy as we thought. Keep up the pressure against ObamaCare!

BigGovernment.com has made one hell of a name for itself in just its first week. Look for Breitbart's new baby to become a major powerhouse!

Here are two more quick bits on ACORN. First, Glenn Beck has said that there will be the mother of all ACORN scandal videos tomorrow. I will post it as soon as I see it. Second, ACORN is looking to sue Fox News and the makers of the ACORN investigation videos. Ain’t gonna happen. There is no way ACORN can afford to submit to the discovery process of a lawsuit. This is an empty threat if ever I heard one.

Wonderful news.

Too bad the money will probably find it's way to ACORN some other way.

Howdy from NJ! I really appreciate that you find ABC of value. What is my secret for keeping up to day? A touch of insomnia and a very bad blackberry addiction. LOL

Excuse the launguage Clifton, but HOLY CRAP! Feinstein and Boxer both voted for it.

That has to be the most shocking thing ever.

No need to apologize, I said the exact same thing when I saw it!

What great news. It is good to see that when they have their back to the wall, they can do the right thing.

That's where we come in. We must apply pressure, pressure, pressure.

..er, "aftershocking". I'm thinking it probably registered about 6.5 on the Cal Tech Richter scale. Also, maybe, they are feeling the heat from the assembled masses on 9/12?

Clifton, I think the words you are searching for were attributable to Frederick Douglass, "Agitate, agitate, agitate!"

(Great blog, by the way! Terriffic content and pictures! I gave you a huge, shameless plug over on mine!)

Frederick Douglass makes a perfect point. However, given that Alinsky is all the rage these days, agitate may not be the best word, LOL.

Huge shameless plugs payoff every Saturday, especially if you have Technorati!

Thanks for posting this. You're right to say we have to keep an eye on them because they do have other affiliates and I don't trust the administration not to use them.
What is wrong with the R's who didn't vote? They must have a death wish for their next elections.

I trust Obama and ACORN as far as I can throw them.

You are right about the Republicans missing this vote, shame, shame, shame.

Also, now would be a good time for Republicans to press to have ACORN cut off from the 8.5 billion and everything else.

This is a great article on the ACORN vote. Good job. I'm still pondering the implications. Wow.

Clifton B said...

Lisa:

Yes there are many implications here. We will have to keep a close eye on this one.

I ran into these people for the very first time during last year's election. They were a shady bunch then but I never knew just how shady they were until after the election when they were accused (rightly) of falsifying voter registrations in Philadelphia. Now, we have this. The wheel does turn doesn't it? I hope this organization gets fried.

I have never encountered ACORN anywhere and I hope I never do. Shady is too good a word for that lot.
