Lisa Murkowski opposes defunding Planned Parenthood

Lisa Murkowski has come out against defunding Planned Parenthood. Here reasoning sound like it came straight from Democratic talking points.
Politico: “I believe Planned Parenthood provides vital services to those in need and disagree with their funding cuts in the bill,” Murkowski wrote in a letter to Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Vice Chairman Thad Cochran (R-Miss.). “I ask you to consider these programs going forward to determine if there is room for allowing continued funding.” [...]
In an e-mail to a constituent, Murkowski expanded on her position, also taking shots at the House Republicans’ attempts to end Title X funding. “I do believe that Planned Parenthood provides vital services to those in need and disagree with its funding cuts contained in the H.R. 1 package,” she wrote in a Friday e-mail, obtained by POLITICO. “From 2002-2008, Planned Parenthood received $342 million in federal taxpayer money through Title X funding alone. With these funds, Planned Parenthood has provided women throughout the U.S. with important family planning and contraceptive services as well as screening for breast and cervical cancers for low-income women. I believe it is important that Title X organizations continue to receive funding. In Alaska, this includes five centers — two health department clinics, two Planned Parenthood clinics in Sitka and Soldotna and one independent clinic.”
I am reminded how the GOP establishment chastised TEA Party conservatives for loosing the Senate by supporting strong conservative candidates in blue states. Christine O'Donnell immediately comes to mind. However, Lisa Murkowski is a perfect example of what happens when conservatives go along with supporting RINOs just for the sake of adding numbers. Simply packing the Senate with any old Republican, means that you end up with some folks wondering off the reservation.

In 2012 there are 23 Democrats up for reelection and Republicans only need five or six seats to control the Senate. Needless to say, we can very well afford to be extremely picky.

I agree - it's time to get REAL conservatives in office. Murkowski has always been a RINO and a panderer - I can't believe the same people who elected Sarah Palin elected her....I want to see the New England RINO's gone as well - better to have a liberal in those seats that we can attack on principles and ideas than a whining RINO

She's not only a RINO, she's also a CINO (Catholic in name only)

Shameful!

“I believe Planned Parenthood provides vital services to those in need..."

She worded this in an unfortunate way. By "services" she means campaign contributions and support for the DemocRAT party. By "those in need" she means career politicians that just want to get reelected.

I'm sorry but I have to say this woman gets uglier by the minute.

Like you said we need to be picky. But, the reality is she really isn't a good person to use an example. She went up against a conservative and won as a write in. It seems to me that the voters of her state want this type of person. Same with John McCain.

Tea Party candidates need to be vetted more throughly before the general. That was the real problem in several races, the candidates would have been good legislators, but made horrible candidates. They have to do both.

I don't understand people who apparently don't see that if they move money from their right pocket to their left, it's still their money. Money for "good services" by PP budget is just moved to the abortion services pocket then the gov't money fills in the empty spot. And that's my money whereas I would never contribute to PP.

And since black babies are killed way out of proportion to their percentage of the population, the black community should be outraged that either party supports the killing.

Come on now, Clifton B. After that "mean-spirited" conservative uprising against her, the good Senator has got to start court new allies and funding sources for her future political runs. Why, one could say that the evil Tea Party practically FORCED her to support Planned Parenthood by their unreasonable expectation that she actually have to campaign and win the support of her party, rather than retain her position by birthright.

I agree with just a conservative girl. Some states continue to re-elect Rinos. GOOOH has a good platform to reform both the senate and the house. Google them if you aren't familiar. Tea Party members have to be vigilant and be ready next year to give pink slips to whomever doesn't follow the Tea Party standards and there are quite a few that are not. Time to start over.

I believe Sen. Murkowski is correct. Defunding planned parent hood is a bad idea. Thank God we have at least a few true decent politicians out there that work for what they believe, not for just what a few party crazies tell them to vote for.
