Joe Wilson: Much ado about nothing

I cannot believe the amount of attention being paid to a simple outburst during Obama’s speech. After eight years of the Democrats’ boorish behavior towards Bush, why are we now so stunned by a single Republican outburst? Is it because Joe Wilson said exactly what many of us were thinking as Obama bullshitted his head off?

As I said in my notes on Obama’s speech, Wilson was a fool to apologize. The left was going to pillory him no matter what, so he might as well reap the benefits of truly speaking his mind. I for one wish there were more outbursts of honesty in Congress. Anyone who watches C-Span will see the utterly phony theatrics of our elected officials. Such nonsense would never survive if our Congress were more like the British Parliament.

See these guys don’t get all squeamish when they get called out, instead they must stand and defend their actions and words. If Obama’s health care proposals are all that and a bag of chips, then let him take the heat and defend his policies. This childish notion that the President can say any old thing to Congress and they have to sit back, shut up and applaud like trained seals is utter nonsense. Such actions only serve to protect the image of the elected officials and does nothing to serve the needs of the people.

With that, lets move on to truly important matters like, where da jobs at?

In those British Parliament videos, all of the politicians were arguing in good faith. Saying that someone lies ends the discussion right there.

In British parliamentary chambers (i.e., Britain's, Canada's, Australia's, etc.) a member may not call another member a liar. Call someone a liar and either apologize or get thrown out of the day's sitting. Simple as that. So your comparison doesn't support your assertion that Wilson's childish outburst was no big deal.

I don't think it has to end a discussion. If someone calls you out as a liar, wouldn't you defend your remarks?

Wise-Ass-Reply--> What surprised me was that she could move it so quickly! I would have sworn there would have been a cracking noise if she did that.

The comparison was made to show that there is nothing wrong with robust give and take. Compared to our Congress which loves theatrics. That being said, I still do not see why Wilson's outburst is worth a two day news cycle. There are far more pressing matters like jobs, jobs, jobs.

Clifton,
I was gonna try to email you off line, but I couldn't find an option for that. So here goes, I need your help finding a video.
Not that long ago, Obama has said something like...I do not support a single payer system. I know I saw it and heard it, but now when I try to find it for a reference I cannot. Do you remember him saying such a thing? I know of course that he is for a single payer system, but I swear he has has said different lately, just to abate anxieties...but I am having a hard time finding it.
Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Joie

If not check out The Conservative Lady blog (she is on my blog roll). She did a whole series on Glenn Beck and I know one of the clips contain Obama saying just that.
