Flip Flop on Torture Photos

Well that did not take long. Obama has flip flopped on releasing the photos of abuse of terror suspects. He claims, get this, national security issues. Here is what he said:

"In fact, the most direct consequence of releasing them, I believe, would be to further inflame anti-American opinion and to put our troops in greater danger," Obama told reporters. "Moreover, I fear the publication of these photos may only have a chilling effect on future investigations of detainee abuse."

Really now? Where was this great insight into national security when he released the Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EIT) memos? How come he did not think of this "chilling effect" before? I'll tell you why, because he was too stupid to realize that going after Bush for torture would get a whole bunch of Democrats caught up in the process! Witness, Nancy Pelosi's "tortured" parsing of words, as she tries unsuccessfully not to look like a big fat liar about not knowing of EITs.

The Democrats have created their own monster regarding the whole torture thing. For years they inflamed the far left into thinking Bush is a war criminal who needs to be prosecuted. Now, that they are in power, the far left demands Bush's hide and anyone connected to it. Ignoring the far left's demands will guarantee they sit on their behinds or turn their wrath towards any Democrat seen as stone walling the process.

Already, the ACLU is teed off about Obama's flip flop. I don't expect them to forget about it either. Just like sharks who get a tiny whiff of blood in the water, the ACLU and the far left will not be satisfied with just the EIT memos, they want more!

I said it before and I will say it again, Republicans need to fan this flame each and every day. The left will eat itself alive over this. The Obama Kool Aid drinkers will run to his defense and the stage 3 Bush Derangement Syndrome suffers will attack Obama for his stonewalling. You can already see glimpses of it on Democratic Underground!

Honestly, I think this is just the prez played his hand and got called early by the GOP.

He will either will look bad in the process of releasing photos due to troop safety, or there isn't enough there to warrant the release and it will look like revenge.

Of course, like you said, it could be that the dems will come out looking stinkier than normal due to their hands being on all of this stuff.

This is what happens when the prez creates the perception in the minds of the far left that he is on their side. He is on no one's side, but his own.

A lose-lose for Obama..he can release the stuff, as was his first intent...or take the advice of his military leaders and not release..making him either a man of judgement and reason...or a flip flopper...depending on POV.

I think the Obama and the Dems did not imagine getting snared in their own plans to criminal Bush. Now that it is happening they will try to back peddle as hard as they can. Personally, I think it is too late. The far left won't let the matter go.

Obama never should have released the EIT memos in the first place.

Hey welcome to my blog, come back often.

I think if Obama refused to release the EIT memos in the first place on the grounds of troop safety, he would have ducked the whole mess with only minor blowback from the left. Now, that they have caught a glimps of what is going on, they won't be happy without hearing about the entire mess.

What a difference a Presidency does make. It always amazes me how differently it all pans out when at the end of the day, you are indeed accountable for your erroneous opinions. Its one thing to spout off on the campaign trail and another to actually have to be right when sitting behind the big desk. Nice going Obama. Another mind "change"! :)N

Oh so very true! Just look at the closing of Gitmo! During the campaign Obama demanded that it be closed, got into office and within days issued an executive order to close it, now that the realities are staring him in the face, he is singing a different tune.

The left said and did everything to smear Bush. It was completely wreckless. Now that they are in control they are finding out the hard way that the lies they spun into "truths" are crumbling in the face of reality.

This TWO reversals in the same week - first THIS, reversing his earlier stand on the pictures, and then the the Gitmo reversal - there will be Military Tribunals afterall.

The question is, how much of this is the Soros-wing of that Party going to take?!

Of course, they have nowhere else to turn, but still...

I for one am really counting on the Soros-wing going off the deepend and start eating their own, starting with Nancy and then Obama himself. All that anger has to go somewhere.
