They forgot the watermelon

In honor of Black History Month, NBC had a special menu in their cafeteria today and lets just say they may have wanted to rethink it.  While I would not call it racist, one can easily see where the menu does play to a certain racial stereotype.  Needless to say several people noticed the faux pas and tweeted it out in cyberspace.
So who at NBC thought it would be a good idea for the special today to be, among other things, fried chicken, “in honor of Black History Month”?
Because, spoiler alert – it wasn’t a good idea at all. And now NBCU employee Questlove is bringing it to the attention of his 1 million plus Twitter followers.
Questlove, the band leader and drummer for The Roots (the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) tweeted this picture from the NBC Commissary at 30 Rock, with the comment: “Hmm HR?”
Luckily for NBC the chief who created the menu saved the day.

Can you imagine if this menu appeared at Fox News? I can almost hear Keith Olbermann’s phony righteous indignation. The funny thing is, if NBC had not written the “In Honor of Black History Month” part, they could have served this menu for the entire month of February without a peep. Political correctness and hyper racial sensitivity will be the death of us all.

Where is the watermelon was exactly what I said when I saw the picture.

It is too funny. I don't understand why they didn't think that this may cause a problem.

LOL, I agree, as soon as I saw it, I said damn, if you are going to be that stereotypical, why not go the whole route.

I find it strange that NBC only serves "black" food once a week for Black History month and they don't serve it for the rest of the year?

Cliff

I took a different angle of this story on my blog. I feel truly feel bad for Calhoun and the harm that was done to her by the harmful good intentions by Liberals. I hope you come by for a visit.

Other topic:

I listen to you on American Politics with Namaste and Nikki, and just when you were about to discribe how you increased the traffic on your blog, the show got cut off.

I screamed:

Noooooo!

I'm white, live in the South and don't get the outrage. I mean, yes, I can see why those who are looking to be outraged would grasp at this. I just don't understand why anyone would listen to such people.

Black cuisine has earned a long and beloved history and should be honored and more importantly enjoyed.

Especially if they get those green beans with the bacon in it on the menu.
