Tiller: The Aftermath

Robert Stacy McCain:
One reason I so despise such criminal idiocy is that, as a student of history, I cannot think of a single instance in which assassination has produced anything good, no matter how evil or misguided the victim, nor how well-intentioned or malevolent the assassin.

From Brutus and the other republican Senators who slew Julius Caesar to Charlotte Corday, from John Wilkes Booth to Gavrilo Princip, and so onto Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan and James Earl Ray, assassination seems inevitably to work against the purposes of its practicioners.

Those who slew Caesar did not save the Roman republic. Marat's death only incited the Jacobins to greater terror. Booth's pistol conjured up a spirit of vengeance against the South more terrible than war itself. Assassination is an act of nihilism. Whatever the motive of the crime, the horror it evokes always inspires a draconian response, and involves other consequences never intended by the criminal.

Tiller's assassin must have thought that his actions would help to bring about a speedy end to late term abortions, seeing that there were only three doctors in the entire Untited States involved in this practice. However, as Robert Stacy McCain states there will be unforeseen consequences to his actions. In this case the conditions for something awful are all there.

Rhetoric on both sides are ramped up. Some on the right are dubbing Tiller's death as a "post birth abortion" and some on the left are calling it "Christian Terrorism". To add gasoline to the fire, we have an administration that feeds on crisises like vultures feeds on carrion.

What actions will the Obama administration take as America's two cultures clash head on over its most volatile and long standing sore spot? My guess, look for them to try to silence voices on the right. I call your attention to an article on the left that has gotten quite a bit of attention. "O'Reilly's campaign against murdered doctor" by Gabriel Winant at Salon.com.

It is no secret that the left is dying to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. Bringing it about in a straight forward fashion was proving problematic and was met with great resistance. However, with ramped up rhetoric over the issue of abortion and a MSM more than willing to paint a lopsided argument, the conditions are right for the administration to step in and apply some heavy handed rules against free speech for conservative voices.

Time will tell if I am wrong, but with Sotomayor's confirmation coming up, expect the topic of abortion to be front and center with emotions turned up high.

As a final note, I would like to point readers to Adrienne's blog, Motivation: Truth for one of the most sensible discussions I have read thus far.

Whatever the Left says I, for one, am thrilled Tiller the Baby Killer is no more.

Confession time: My very first reaction after reading the first headline that Tiller was dead, was "God don't like ugly"!

Lord forgive me, but it was true.

The Left is already blaming "the Right-wing media" (Talk Radio and FoxNews), which is as dishonest as it is erroneous.

23 States have already outlawed LTA or "partial birth abortion", killing Tiller was the wrong way to go about things....it damaged and disgraced the cause that Scott Roeder (the killer) claimed to support.

Aside from that is the hypocritical irony of a "pro-LIFE" person murdering, or taking another human LIFE.

We, as Conservatives, need to be able to stand up against the fringe within our own midst.

JMK:

We do stand up against them. The Pro Life movement was very quick in denouncing the actions of Roeder. However, Roeders actions fit into the liberal meme on ProLifers so they will beat that drum for all it is worth, our actions be damned.

Most do, Clifton, and while I understand Seane-Anna's sentiments, they plays into the worst charicatures of Conservatives.

What's taken the wind out of the Liberal sails is the murder of that Army recruiter in AK, which begs the question, "Then isn't he ardent anti-war/anti-military MSM just as guilty in the death of tht recruiter"?

The Olbermann's and the NY Times/MSNBC cabal looked foolish blming O'Reilly as a Left-wing kook was undermining their own arguments with his actions.

Yes the recruiter killer took the wind out of their sails. They sure did give that story the short shift though. I wrote about another aspect about it today.
