US Aware That Hasan Tried To Contact Al Qaeda

Can we stop pretending that Hasan's attack was not terrorism?

From ABC News:
U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.
One senior lawmaker said the CIA had, so far, refused to brief the intelligence committees on what, if any, knowledge they had about Hasan's efforts.
CIA director Leon Panetta and the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, have been asked by Congress "to preserve" all documents and intelligence files that relate to Hasan, according to the lawmaker.
Now here is the big question, is the reason why the CIA did not share this information with the Army a result of the Justice Department looking for heads at the CIA?

It also turns out that Hasan had contact with a radical mosque in Virgina and the mosque leader, Anwar al Awlaki had much praise for Hasan's actions:
Investigators want to know if Hasan maintained contact with a radical mosque leader from Virginia, Anwar al Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen and runs a web site that promotes jihad around the world against the U.S.
In a blog posting early Monday titled "Nidal Hassan Did the Right Thing," Awlaki calls Hassan a "hero" and a "man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."

Do you feel that the trial of the shooter, will be honest? Or that it will be an exercise in PC-ness?

I feel that the shootings themselves, won't demoralize our Armed Services. But that if his trial is an exercise in "wringing of hands" and PC-ness, how can it help but demoralize our Armed Forces.

Damn...

Aunt Amelia:
PC will certainly play a role in this. I think the administration will do everything to deny that this is terrorism because they don't want it to be said that failed to maintain Bush's record.

Yes if this isn't handled correctly, our troops will be demoralized. Look for troops to start getting out if they feel they have no support from the top.

Just another example of how completely unqualified this
person is to be our President. There seems to be no end
to his display of ineptitude. This man’s priorities are
certainly not in the interests of our Country!

Has anyone written about the "comment collecting". Sure, anyone with half a brain knows that key words and more are picked up by the government, whether on the net or just on your computer.

But to have it said on all the news programs and updates like they were talking about the weather..was a little too 1984.

Just because we know it's done, don't act like it is common knowledge, common practice, and no big deal.

I haven't seen or heard anyone talk about what this idiot being retained and promoted says about our readiness either.

Thru My Eyes:

Bush's visit to the troops at Fort Hood vs. Obama's lack there of is pretty much the telling tale.

Yes there appears to be a very casual acceptance of government spying [the downside of the Patriot Act?].

I too want to hear how Hasan stayed in the Army so long while sprouting his nonsense. I believe the answer is that we are cowed by Political Correctness.
