Moral Equivalence Run Amok: US apologizes to China for Arizona law

One of the left’s worst habits is moral equivalence. They take a moral issue and try to equate it to some of the worst things in the world. For example, they say Arizona's law is equal to Nazi Germany.  These over the top comparisons are bad enough when practiced by the leftwing masses at home, but when our own State Department gets into the act when dealing with China, we have hit a new low.
Powerline: This is unfreakingbelievable, even for the Obama administration:
The United States and China reported no major breakthroughs Friday after only their second round of talks about human rights since 2002.
The Obama administration wants to push Beijing to treat its citizens better, but it also needs Chinese support on Iranian and North Korean nuclear standoffs, climate change and other difficult issues. ...
[Assistant Secretary of State Michael] Posner said in addition to talks on freedom of religion and expression, labor rights and rule of law, officials also discussed Chinese complaints about problems with U.S. human rights, which have included crime, poverty, homelessness and racial discrimination.
He said U.S. officials did not whitewash the American record and in fact raised on its [sic] own a new immigration law in Arizona that requires police to ask about a person's immigration status if there is suspicion the person is in the country illegally.
What an idiot! China murdered millions of its citizens who opposed the government's Communist policies and allows most of its people little or no freedom. We, on the other hand, enforce our immigration laws. No, wait--actually we don't. That's why Arizona had to take a shot at it. Oh, by the way, Michael Posner, you clueless moron--China actually does enforce its immigration laws.
Did you notice that China did not bring up the Arizona law?  It was this asshat Michael Posner (Michele Malkin has the lowdown on this bozo) who brought it up early and often.   Posner is another idiot in this administration who did not bother to read Arizona’s 17-page law. The left hates when the right accuses them of hating America, but when you get examples like this what else is one to conclude?

China is the last place we should be apologizing to for following our own immigration laws. Check out how China treats Mexicans:
Hot Air: Update: Say, maybe the Obama administration might want to mention this as well, from almost exactly a year ago:
Following the discovery of the infected Mexican man, authorities quarantined 70 Mexicans who arrived in China over the May 1 holiday weekend, most on different flights from the infected man. They include an official at Mexico’s consulate in Guangzhou who was returning on a flight from Southeast Asia. Except for the initial case, none of the 70 has shown symptoms of the disease, says a spokesperson from the embassy. Now concerns are being raised that Mexicans are being isolated solely because of their nationality.
Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Patricia Espinosa, called the treatment of the Mexicans in China discriminatory and said some of the quarantined travelers were being held in “unacceptable conditions.” On May 3, Mexico’s ambassador to China, Jorge Guajardo, attempted to visit 10 Mexicans who are in quarantine at Guomen Hotel in suburban Beijing, but he was denied access. As of Monday morning, he still hadn’t been able to gain access to the group. Over the Mexican government’s objections, China has decided to halt all AeroMexico flights coming into China. On Monday evening, the Chinese Foreign Ministry posted a brief announcement on its website saying that China and Mexico had planned for charter flights to return stranded nationals from the two countries, but no details were provided.
On Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu denied that Mexicans were being singled out. “These measures are not aimed at Mexican citizens, and are not discriminating in nature. The issue is purely a matter of public health and quarantine inspection,” Ma said in a statement on the ministry’s website. “China understands Mexico’s concern for its citizens in China, but we hope Mexico could focus on the bigger picture of fighting against the epidemic … and deal with the issue in an objective and calm way.”
And we’re apologizing for profiling to the same country that did this?  Those travelers entered China legally.
I for one am too through with these apology tours. Yes, America has some faults, but the idea that our faults are equal to China’s human rights abuses is beyond ignorant. Why does the left refuse to weigh the good that America has brought to the world against its faults? It is almost like all the left can see are America’s faults and then magnify those faults to the level of the world’s greatest abusers. Is it that they secretly wish America was that bad so that they can paint themselves as heroes saving the world or is it what we on the right always suspected, they simply hate America?

Yes siree, the lefties hate America. I am so sick of this constant apologizing for the left's "imagined" wrongs that we've committed. Apologizing to China is just the absolute limit!

You are kidding me.

In China, the [commies] have two kids of citizenship for Chinese: farmers, and city folks. It's a copy of a Soviet policy that never went away.

That means, by law, almost 90 percent of the population are ILLEGAL to move to a city unless they get a tempt visa to visit a city in China.

That's why there are so many migrant workers, cheap labors who are actually 2nd class people by LAW. Their village resources are often taken and spend on the city, and they are poorer and poorer every year. In the city, they are treated worse then enemies of the states, because city folks who just stole their water, food felt that these farmers are taking their space in the city. The have no rights to most things [housing, loans, buying of property, etc].

Ok, I don't even want to type anymore.

Obama white house just tops the number one idiot administration.

China has NO RIGHT to complaint to USA. EVERYTHING we did, they did it 100,000Xs worse.

Let me count the ways:

Gitmo? They have death camps for 50+ years and tens of thousands work there, and die there. Gitmo is like a Toys R Rs compare to it. Female prisons, females often subject to sexual abuse, rape, gang rape, more rape, rape by guards and sometimes throw in male prisons to be raped by other male prisoners. Why? Because no one can do a thing about it.

Illegal immigration? They arrest, rape, torture, and send North Koreans back to North Korea, where the get raped, tortured and sent to the NK version of death camp.

Income? You kidding me? A son of a chinese official just brought the record for buying the most expensive house in Australia, most of these "rich 2nd gen" drives Ferraris and porches to high school and colleges in Australia, UK, Europe. Guess where they got that money from.

I hate to say this, the left will never face up to China, because secretly, they admire the Chinese Communist for being so "advanced" and set up a [bloody] Communist regime many years they can do that in USA.

And here we are, we have to use stupid things like Constitution, voters, etc, before we can get to a Socialist, Communist Utopia that the Chinese Communist had done for 60 beautiful happy years through mass murder and rape and torture.

Talk about homelessness.

In China, when the officials got tired of tearing down a whole village for his summer mansions [and NY times did a report on this, if the lefty NY times did a report on its severity, you can't imagine how severe it really is], guess what they do? They moved to the cities and lease lands to their cousins, I mean, developers, for a big chuck of cash. But the problem is there are already people living there, what do they do? They force demolish or evict them.

Some would refused to move, it gets so severe, there's even a wiki entry on it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_house

Yet all these are "legal" in China, why? Because when the revolution happened, the Communist said it's best to have the government to take care of your property, so NO ONE in China, NOT even farmers, actually owns any land legally.

During The Olympics 2008, they tore down miles and miles of houses. Formerly well to do, mid-class citizens of Beijing who never believed forced demolition would happen [to them], were given about 1/10 of their actual house value and kicked out.

Then the Shanghai World Expo did the same. But these are just 2 examples. There are thousands of less famous cases happening every day without anyone knowing or caring. Did white house talk about that? Did the main stream media talk about that?

My word!!! Everything's flipped upside down and backwards!!! One is tempted to ask what's next, but my better judgement says tells me that I don't even want to go there!!!

When you think that this administration has done absolutely every illogical thing that they could possibly do, they pull another whopper out of their hat. Nothing...absolutely nothing that this group of radicals does surprises me anymore. Move up, Jimmy Carter, there is a President who has surpassed you as the worst.

The Chinese must think we are utterly insane!

I can guess the headline for the Chinese state run media already:

"USA apologizes to our leader for human rights, agreed to learn from the Chinese-method. Our leaders agreed to help and improve the USA."

And I can't even wait to read all those headlines from those Communist-backed Chinese newspapers in the USA [Singtao, Ming Bao].

These people literally get on my LAST nerve!

My question for these dumb asses is this: "if America is so freakin' bad...why don't you guys pack up your junk and GET THE HELL OUT?!" It'll leave more chicken for me.

Uh oh, I better not say that too loud or else they'll have the Food Police after me next!

This is the same China that kills its infant girls and sells whatever North Korean women they do not kill or forcibly return into sexual slavery. No one- anywhere- should give China ANY quarter. It is a monstrous octopus. Furthermore, if this administration was honest and possessed any intestinal fortitude, it would fire Posner out of a cannon.
No such luck, I'm afraid.

Just when I think this administration couldn't get any lower, they manage to top themselves. Though nothing they do surprises me, the level they dig themselves in does. What next, apologies for not forcing us to give up kidneys. . . or worse? Is there anything the libs find worthy at all in the US or disdain from the brutal communist Chinese? I have to disagree with Gorges Smythe. The chinese don't think we're utterly insane. They think we're completely stupid.

To be honest, I expect this kind of stupidity/weakness from them.

I wish the media would focus on the horrible economy and real projections on what we expect to happen. GB is spending his every show trying to sound the warning bell and the media remains ignorant about what is being done to us.

I keep thinking back to a statement made about when things are going bad, influences will look to pillage the treasury and I see this happening with HCR and Cap/Trade.

There is the story. The China deal is a distraction from the people trying to pull one over on us.

I have exhausted all of my patience with these apology tours. If this administration cannot say positive things about this nation abroad, then they really need to STFU.

I would love to hear how you came to America. Scoot me an email someday.

I bet you are right on the nose with that headline. Do you remember when our spy plane landed in China? The Bush administration had to walk a tightrope in order not to give the Chinese a headline.

It is beyond frustrating to see such moral equivalence. Especially when it is so unnecessary.

Clifton B said...

Osumashi:

What if find even more offensive, is that it is completely unnecessary to play the moral equivalence game. With all the money we owe China, we already lost our moral footing to challenge them. So why add more fuel to the fire by apologizing for AZ?

Oh you had better believe that our economic end is near. That is why there is all this outrageous spending. They all know the jig is up so why not line your pockets before the end. It kind of reminds me how certain Russians became filthy rich off the collapse of the Soviet Union.

@ 2nd Anonymous, fabulous comments! You really get to the heart of the problem here, and that's not only that the U. S. is now bending over backwards to accommodate truly repressive and oppressive regimes but that it now aspires to be one. That, I think, is BO's real agenda.

@ Clifton, great post. I think that this is far more suggestive of serious problems to come in this country. The twisted BO worldview puts we conservatives as the "enemy" and perpetrators of serious human rights violations as something to aspire to. Woohoo! Mao is great, love that Castro, wanna be just like Che. They are scary scary people (those leaders and our own current ones). They absolutely hate America, her freedom, the liberty, the power in the states and the people. They hate it because it limits what the government can do to us. But they're finding ways around that, aren't they? This path we are on is downright frightening and anyone who isn't afraid isn't paying attention.

Anonymous said...

Fuzzy Slippers: thanks. It's a sad truth... and it's weird how the main stream media NEVER talks about this.

I see many Americans being so brain-washed, they are spilling socialist and communist ideals and they don't even know it.

Why? Because that's exactly how it works with communists: infiltration underground and have various leaders secretly support your view, infiltration with media/mass until the mass thinks like you, finally, infiltration with violence and kill your enemies.

Right now, sadly, they are already on the 2nd stage.

Fuzzy Slippers said...

2nd Anonymous, you're right. Even two years ago, I would be like the majority of Americans seem to be . . . completely unwilling to believe that something like this could happen here. But it can. It is.

And we're seeing the groundwork being laid for it all. There are those on the left who are already completely removed from viewing conservatives as human beings, the necessary dehumanization is well under way. When I was younger, I always wondered how on earth the German people stood by and allowed the Holocaust to happen. I couldn't believe that good people could sit back and watch that happen. I believe it now.

Anthony said...

Exactly where in the story did it say anything about an "apology"? Reminds me of the time John Kerry said the troops were stupid; except that he said no such thng.

Frankly I find it hard to take this right wing indignation very seriously. Aside from the fact that you guys are claiming an "apology" was given when no such thing happened, why don't you concern yourselves with matters of subtance instead of symbolism?

At this very moment, WalMart is trying to close a deal where they would build a store on the site of the Civil War Wilderness Battlefield. I would lay even money that the most ardent supporters of another WalMart are the very same folks wringing their hands over this non-existent apology.

In case you missed it, Walmart is among China's top 10 trading partners. The other nine are all sovereign nations.

It is simply ridiculous to complain about this meeting with China and remain silent or even encourage the expansion of the economic superhighway that sends our disposable income to that very same country.

This latest expansion would come at the expense of a very precious piece of our national heritage.

Oh and for the person who talked about right wingers being "dehumanized", well instead of calling people like me commies who hate America, why not try demonstrating some small amount of respect for opposing opinions.

If you dehumanize me and cannot respect my beliefs, why should you expect anything else than the same thing in return?
